Powell Elementary's technology levels were assessed using the Texas STaR chart. The chart measures four key areas: Teaching & Learning, Educator Preparation, Administration & Support, and Infrastructure. Powell's data from the 2008-2009 school year found its levels to be Developing in Teaching & Learning, Advanced in Educator Preparation, Target in Administration & Support, and Advanced in Infrastructure. The summary encouraged continuing to improve technology integration in teaching and learning through collaboration.

3.  The Texas STaR chart was developed to ensure
that technology education and advancement
was taking place on the campus level.
 Data for the STaR Chart is collected from
teachers every fall.
 Four key areas are addressed in the STaR Chart
(Teaching & Learning, Educator
Preperation, Administration & Support, and
Infrastructure).

4.  Early Tech – Lowest level
 Developing Tech – Where most schools are
 Advanced Tech – Above average
 Target Tech – Ideal (A very small percentage of
campuses are at this level)

5.  Teaching and learning refer to the use of
technology in the classroom, and the depth to
which it is used.
 In a Target classroom the teacher serves as the
mentor, facilitator, and co-learner.
 Students have on-demand access to all
appropriate technologies.

6.  The educator is confident in technology
application and aligns all curriculum with
technology application.
 Anytime, anywhere use of online resources.

7.  There is on campus instructional support staff.
 At least one technical support staff member per
350 computers.
 Funding is made available to purchase new
technology.

8.  There is on-demand access for every
student, direct connectivity available in all
rooms and web-based resources in multiple
rooms.
