IPAD PROGRAM
IPAD PROGRAM
AT CHARLOTTE LATIN SCHOOL
• Goals of iPad program:
• Goal 1: To provide engaging learning experiences that are
experiential, require critical thinking, and foster creativity
• Goal 2: To develop independent learners
• Goal 3: To accommodate a broad spectrum of learners by
offering opportunities for enrichment and remediation
• Goal 4: To incorporate into our workflow more environmentally
sustainable practices that reduce our carbon footprint
FINDINGS FROM
OTHER SCHOOLS
• iPads seem to help with organization
• More engaged in reading and note taking
• Administrative and teacher buy-in are critical for success
• NOT the curriculum itself – a tool to implement the curriculum
• Without careful planning, an iPad program can be a disaster
WHAT ARE
OUR NEXT STEPS?
• School visits –What can we learn from others that can help us to
move in this direction?
• eTextbook creation – how we can shift some of our content to a
digital medium – must be interactive
• iPads in our hands – at least one year before we have students
who will come to us having used iPads (2+ years from now)
We are in a good position NOW to implement this thoughtfully!

Editor's Notes

  • #6 Teachers can place events like homework assignments, quizzes, classroom projects, tests, and more, on the classroom calendar. For those students who are not in class due to sickness or early Athletic dismissals, they will not miss a beat since they have the opportunity to view the day’s assignment online. Students also have the ability to pull an iCal or RSS feed into their own preferred calendar program to help stay on top of their assignments.

  • #8 Allow students to learn and review at their own pace by adding resources to your class. Link to educational TV shows and YouTube videos. Post handouts and study guides for students to absorb at home.
  • #9 Replace the the paper and pencil for assignments by allowing students to submit files online via a dropbox.
  • #10 Eliminate the need for the Scantron, by setting up our online quiz to auto-grade your student’s responses to multiple choice, short answer, and essay questions.
  • #11 Upgrade your Magic Lanterns, your Filmstrip Projectors, Radios, Headsets and Audio Tapes by uploading your classroom photos, recorded lecture or smartboard videos, and foreign language vocabulary audio recordings to your very own classroom Media Manager thus allowing your teachers the opportunity to step into the future and take part in a “Flipped Classroom” environment.
  • #12 Parents can keep up-to-date about what is happening in the classroom by reading daily blog posts by their child’s teacher.
  • #13 Continue that classroom debate about “What impact does social networking have on society?” online through the finalsite’s LMS Discussions tab.
  • #14 Go Green, and make sure your Parents receive the information you sent home with their students in the “Friday Envelopes” by quickly bulk emailing them.
