What is a WebQuest?
Wait. What is it?
• Think of it as an online Amazing Race.
• Students go to a website, find out what
tasks they need to complete, then search
the web to finish them!
• Teachers can provide hyperlinks to direct
the students to the right pages
ADVANTAGES
Advantages to Students
• Can use at home
• Every WebQuest has a similar structure-
familiar!
• Websites are pre-selected
• Well explained, the students know what
they have to do
• Allows students to answer questions, from
their own views
• Go at their own speed, there is no rush
• It’s different! It’s fun!
Advantages to Teachers
• Easy to create
• Can be adapted to suit any subject or topic
• Suitable for all levels of learning
• Can be used as individual or group work
• Easy to fit variety of outcomes, in one task
DISADVANTAGES
Disadvantages to Students
• Could get boring, just reading and then
answering questions
• Easy to get distracted when using the
web- FACEBOOK!
• Inflexible structure
• Access- slow internet or NO internet!
• Some websites have a lot of content- hard
to take in!
Disadvantages to Teachers
• Takes time to create
• YOU need to find the appropriate websites
for the students- time consuming
• Focused on Web resources, leaving out
other possible resources
• Broken links- taken off the internet
• Loss of face-to-face learning
• If done at home, teacher cannot monitor
student progress
AND KEEP SEARCHING
Thank you
