A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which students use online resources to answer a question or complete a task. There are typically six parts to a WebQuest: an introduction providing background, a defined task, a process with steps and embedded links, a list of required resources, an evaluation rubric, and a conclusion allowing student reflection. WebQuests can be short-term for knowledge acquisition or long-term requiring analysis and synthesis. Examples of effective WebQuests and scholarly articles on the topic are provided. Potential pros and cons of using WebQuests in the classroom are also outlined.
