This document defines and describes what a webquest is. A webquest is an inquiry-oriented activity where students learn by obtaining information from online resources, potentially supplemented by videoconferencing. 3. Terms Defined
 Webquest- A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the
information that learners interact with comes from resources on the internet,
optionally supplemented with videoconferencing.
 Short term webquest- The instructional goal of a short term WebQuest is
knowledge acquisition and integration. At the end of a short term WebQuest, a learner
will have been show a significant amount of new information and made sense of it. A
short-term WebQuest is designed to be completed in one to three class periods.
 Longterm Webquest- The instructional goal of a longterm webquest is
extending and refining knowledge. After completing a longer term WebQuest, a
learner would have analyzed a body of knowledge, transformed it in some way, and
demonstrated an understanding of the material by creating something that others can
respond to. A longer term WebQuest will typically take between one week and a
month in a classroom setting.
 Inquiry oriented -A student-centered, active learning approach focusing on
questioning, critical thinking, and problem-solving. It's associated with the idea
quot;involve me and I understand.quot;

4. Teacher Resources Needed
 A web editor is the only specialized document
needed.
 You will need a Web server in order to post your Web
quest.
 Web Quest can be created in Word, PowerPoint or
Excel.

6. Pros
 The ability to work in teams.
 There is alot more information available to everyone
than there use to be and it is growing at an
accelerating rate. Many of these sources will not be
filtered nor verified.
 Individuals are now facing more complicated issues
than they use to- easy fixes will be resisted.
 In the course of a lifetime, individuals will go
through several different jobs.

7. Cons
 WebQuest is not the best way to teach simple
procedures and definitions.
 In order to use WebQuest, student's must have a
certain level of reading ability. This only means it is
harder to create a good WebQuest for younger
students.
 Also, some feel that the classroom learning should be
more focused on facts and content.
