In the news "Samark Lopez- Donates Supplies to Impoverished Schools"
Samark Lopez donated school supplies to impoverished schools in Venezuela. He donated 430 backpacks filled with notebooks, pencils, and other supplies to the San Marcelino Champagnat School. A few days later, he donated another 300 backpacks to the Canaima School. Lopez grew up in a poor region of Venezuela and was inspired by his parents who were teachers to give back through education. He continues his philanthropic work through his foundation Fundación Educando Niños Felices.

A documentary film about libraries and colonialism in Latin America called "Books & Clouds" will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles on October 8th from 6-9 PM at St. Catherine University. A panel discussion on library services and colonialism will follow the film. Light refreshments will be provided. The event is presented by the St. Kate's MLIS Student Government Organization and will feature Jody Gray, Director of Diversity & Literacy Outreach Services at the American Library Association, and Edwin Schenk, an Instruction Librarian at Capella University and alumnus of St. Kate's MLIS program.

CHIPOTLE was created in 2005 by the University Libraries of UNM to serve the information and research needs of UNM programs, students, faculty, and the community regarding Chicano, Hispano, and Latino topics. Its goals are to increase retention and graduation rates of these students and introduce them to prominent scholars and leaders. CHIPOTLE offers library instruction workshops, sponsors speakers and seminars with scholars, supports related symposia, and maintains collections relevant to these disciplines.
