Enterprises depend on modular switching solutions for all aspects of the enterprise network: in the enterprise core and data center, the distribution layer that lies between the core and wiring closet, and in the wiring closet itself. Modular solutions provide port diversity and density that fixed solutions simply cannot match. There are also high-capacity modular solutions that only the largest of enterprises and institutions use for high-density and high-speed deployments. Modular solutions are generally much more expensive than their fixed cousins, especially in situations where density or flexibility are not required. Fixed-configuration stackable switches are typically cost- optimized, but they offer no real port diversity on an individual switch. Port diversity means the availability of different port types, such as fiber versus copper ports. Stackable switches have gotten better at offering port diversity, but they still cannot match their modular cousins. Many of these products now offer high-end features such as 802.3af PoE, QoS, and multi-layer intelligence that were only found on modular switches in the past. This is due to the proliferation of third-party merchant silicon in the fixed configuration market. Generally, a stack of fixed configuration switches can be managed as a single virtual entity. Fixed configuration switches generally cannot be used to provision an entire large enterprise, but instead are mostly used out at the edge or departmental level as a low-cost alternative to modular products.

The network plays a critical role in establishing a consistent and high quality user experience. The network must provide more than basic connectivity; it must transform to become a strategic business asset. Similar to a television, radio or telephone, we expect technology to just work and deliver a great experience. For instance, if the network or technology does not allow us to share our experience socially, we are left with a negative perception; the expectation for what constitutes a great experience is different for each person. It is up to IT to keep up and deliver excellent experiences. Our solution is TRULY integrated for both wired and wireless. Deployable for private and public cloud environments. Align with mega trends shaping the market: Cloud, Mobile and of Couse with Isaac, Social as well.
What is Flow-Based Switching?
A Flow is a uni-directional conversation between end devices
Described by as many of the following contained in the packet
(L2) – SA, DA, Port, VLAN, EtherType
(L3) – adds SIP, DIP, Protocol, TOS/DSCP
(L4) – adds L4 Source, L4 Destination
Packet Processor operates at either L2, L3 or L4 depending on switch configuration, Provides context for network traffic
Who, Where, What
So What?- Every unique flow can be counted
and controlled!
Question, Why are you calling L2 MAC forwarding switching? Several decades ago we did one of 3 things to a packet, repeated it (frame was not touched), Bridged it (L2 MAC forwarding), or Routed it (L3 forwarding followed by L2 forwarding). The term switch is a “marketing” term that really just talks about a multiport Bridge in my opinion, and we have had those for many, many years
The RUGGEDCOM RS900G is a 10-port utility-grade, fully managed Ethernet switch, providing dual fiber optical Gigabit Ethernet ports and eight fast Ethernet copper ports. Designed to operate reliably in harsh environments, the RS900G provides a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference and heavy electrical surges typical of environments found in electric utility substations, factory floors or in curb side traffic control cabinets.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

6. Network availability questions
+ How do you backup your network today?
• Spanning Tree (too complex? slow convergence time? Does it even work?)
• Stacking, Distributed link aggregations, active-active server topologies?
+ What happens when parts of your network are down?
+ What is the cost of downtime today? And tomorrow?
+ How critical is the network uptime? Single points of failure?
8. Stacking benefits
Highly Scalable:
• Switches can be
‘stacked’ with high-
speed shared
bandwidth
• Dedicated ports for
stacking connectivity;
don’t waste valuable
user ports
• Support distance /
remote stacking needs
across multi-sites
Intelligent and Easy
Management:
• Single IP Address
management for entire
stack
• Stack-master
maintains
configuration for all
members
• Stack-master
automatically
synchronizes software
for all members
Highly Redundant
• In Ring configuration,
stack stays alive in
case of failure of any
switch
• Failover mechanism in
case master fails
• Hot swappable
solution

17. Education on Availability
+ All about how to get rid of
Spanning Tree ‘backup’
+ Spanning Tree is slow and too
complex for midsize networks
+ Stacking allows for distributed
link aggregations hence
providing load-balancing AND
redundancy / failover capabilities
+ Stacking is all about how FAST the recovery must be
18. Education on Availability
+ Stackable Smart Managed can
offer ‘reduced’ downtimes
+ Stackable Fully Managed can
offer NSF sub-second failovers’
+ Chassis Switches will allow for
Non-Stop-Forwarding in any
situation with added
predictability over stack (fixed
architecture) and more efficient
N+1 power redundancy
19. Stacking Availability – facts
+ What is your downtime expectation for devices and clients
connected to the stack in case of a switch failure?
