Mobile Transport Evolution with Unified MPLSCisco Canada
Mobile Service Providers are seeing unprecedented challenges in relation to their Transport architectures with the 3GPP evolution towards IP based Node Bs, LTE (Long Term Evolution) and LTE-Advanced. This presentation will initially discuss the network migration trends and factors that are changing how mobile networks are evolving. A description is provided on Unified MPLS and the current issues that need to be fixed and how this architecture addresses this. A more detailed analysis will then examine the options available for transporting GSM/2G, UMTS/3G traffic and IP/Ethernet Node B deployments and some of factors that need consideration like scalability, resiliency and security. Finally, there is a detailed description of the LTE/LTE - A evolution and the feature requirements made on the transport network. There will be detailed analysis of different LTE models and also some technical enhancements and proposals considered for the implementation of LTE in a Unified MPLS environment.
Get a better understanding of 5G in this "Introduction to 5G"presentation by Doug Hohulin, Nokia 4G/5G Mobile Technology, whose focus is the strategy and business development of AV, UAS, Smart City, IoT and 5G technologies. Beginners: 5G Terminology (Updated - Feb 2019)3G4G
An updated short presentation and video looking at 5G terminology that is being used in 3GPP standards and specifications.
Terms such as NG-RAN, NR, ng-eNB, en-gNB, RIT, SRIT, Option 3, etc. will be discussed
VRF (Virtual Routing and Forwarding) is a technology that allows multiple instances of a routing table to
co-exist within the same router at the same time. This increases functionality by allowing network paths
to be segmented without using multiple devices. Because traffic is automatically segregated, VRF also
increases network security and can eliminate the need for encryption and authentication. Internet
service providers (ISPs) often take advantage of VRF to create separate virtual private networks (VPNs)
for customers; thus the technology is also referred to as VPN routing and forwarding. Because the
routing instances are independent, the same or overlapping IP addresses can be used without
conflicting with each other.

Many network operators still struggle with which type of data-plane encoding they should use for segment routing. The world is hyper-connected and we can’t afford to be late to deliver 5G. Using IPv4, IPv6 and MPLS data-plane encoding keeps us moving forward.
Software Defined Network (SDN) using ASR9000 :: BRKSPG-2722 | San Diego 2015Bruno Teixeira
With the changing paradigm of network programmability using Software Defined Network (SDN), we are seeing new ways for monitoring, scaling and configuring network devices. With new network programability capabilities utilizing NETCONF, OpenFlow, BGP-LS, and PCEP it is vital for network architects and operations engineers to understand how these SDN related technologies can be leveraged to streamline the way we view, design, and operate our networks today. This session introduces these concepts and focuses on the use cases, implementation, and troubleshooting of these technologies on the ASR9000 platform.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

12. Target Applications
Building 1: High Availability (HA) Top-of-Rack
• For midsize server installations, two half-width M4300
10GbE models can be paired in a single rack space for
redundant top-of-rack
• Management unit hitless failover and nonstop forwarding
ensure no single point of failure for servers and storage
Building 2: Edge Ring Stack
• Common for intermediate distribution frames (IDF) in
K-12, stacking topologies simplify deployments at the edge
• Management unit hitless failover and nonstop forwarding
ensures continuous uptime for clients across the stack
Building 3: Spine and Leaf Stack
• For typical collapsed core installations, with a variety
of 1G and 10G access ports in branch offices, server
rooms
• Spine and leaf architectures deliver highest performance
with every leaf switch (1G) connecting to every spine
switch (10G) for a fully non-blocking deployment
• With management unit hitless failover and nonstop
forwarding, leaf switches keep forwarding L2 and L3 traffic
in and out, while backup spine unit guarantees connectivity
to the core
M4300
14. What is Spine and Leaf?
Traditional 3 Tier Model = Spanning Tree Based
Network
Spine-Leaf Based Network = Non-Blocking
Links for More Optimal Traffic
Core
Distribution
Access
Access = Leaf switches
Core / Aggregation = Spine switches
- In 3 Tier model, many links are in “blocked” mode due to STP, hence East West traffic at the access – predominant in DC – is slower
- In Spine/Leaf model, all links are active for optimal traffic in ultimately line-rate topologies
- In Spine/Leaf model, >2x increase in network availability
