Akismet Stats
“What the heck is ham doing on my blog? I’m a
vegetarian.
Spam most people know; it's the unwanted
commercial comments on their blogs. Ham is what
we call its counterpart, legitimate comments. On
the Akismet mistakes side, missed spam is pretty
self-explanatory, and a false positive is a legitimate
comment incorrectly identified as spam (which, we
hope, happens very rarely).”

Posts

Pages

Posts are entries
listed in reverse
chronological order
on the blog home
page or on the posts
page if you have set
one.

Pages are static
and are not listed
by date. You
choose their order.

④

Go to the Dashboard
Go to Settings
Choose Reading
Check “A Static Page”
 Choose what to have in your Front Page
 Choose your Post Page

6:30 PM

14
Front Page VS Post Page
• It provides static
information to anyone
who enters your site
• It is good way to convey
an important message
to anyone entering your
site or just to introduce
yourself

6:30 PM

• By default WordPress
makes your Home
(page) your Post Page
• It provides news feeds
to your readers
• It is a good way keep
your site up to date

15
Create a Post

① Go to the Dashboard
② Go to Post
③ Choose Add New

6:30 PM

16
Sticky Posts
Posts are entries listed in reverse chronological
order on the blog home page or on the posts
page.

Sticky posts appear before all other
posts, independently from the chronological
order of posting.
6:30 PM

17
All Posts
From this page you can quickly administer all of
your posts.

6:30 PM

18
Categories
Categories provide a
helpful way to group
related posts
together, and to
quickly tell readers
what a post is about.

6:30 PM

19
Tags
Tags provide a useful
way to group related
posts together and to
quickly tell readers what
a post is about.
Tags also make it easier
for people to find your
content.
6:30 PM

20
Copy A Post
Copy A Post lets you duplicate a
post, including the title, contents, tags
and categories, so you can start a new
post without having to re-enter
tags, categories and formatting.

21
Request Feedback

To request feedback from someone, all you need is their email
address. Type their email address into the request form; if you
want to request feedback from multiple people you can separate
their email addresses with commas.

6:30 PM

22
Pages

Pages are static. They are a good way to publish
information that doesn’t change much, like an
About page.

6:30 PM

23
All Pages
Here you can quickly administer all of
your pages.

6:30 PM

24
Copy A Page

Use an existing page as a template.

6:30 PM

25
Page Attributes
The Page Attributes
module allows you to
set page parents and
templates, and to
change the order of
your pages.

6:30 PM

26
Page Template
Some themes have additional templates that
you can use to create pages with additional
features or custom layouts.

Wordpress.com VS Wordpress.org

esources/about-wordpress-andplugins/wordpress-com-vs-wordpress-org/

6:30 PM

30
WordPress.com VS WordPress.org
To understand the difference, we must first
understand how hosting works.
① Domain/address: You type the domain name into your
web browser.
② Domain Name Servers/System: The DNS makes sure
you get connected to the right computer.
③ Hosting: And that computer or server has your website
files hosted on it

6:30 PM

31
How to access the class website

Visitor types into their
web browser the
address of our class
website:
startingmyownwebpage
.wordpress.com

6:30 PM

The DSN connects that
address to the right IP
(computer)

*That* computer (in
this case, the
WordPress servers)
hosts all of our website
content, and “serves” it
to the visitor

32
WordPress.com VS WordPress.org

6:30 PM

33
WordPress.com VS WordPress.org
The difference between WordPress.com and
WordPress.org will come particularly handy in
understanding how to access help.
