Web Based Tutorial Summary
ESL Made Easy is the name of the web based tutorial designed to deliver a message of
hope to ESL students who struggle with their language barriers. As an ESL student myself, I
have witnessed the need for self-paced and effective ESL learning tools and applications.
Throughout the years, I learned that many students born and raised in America but descendents
of immigrant non-English speakers parents still have problems with their native language. The
focus of this tutoring is to help ESL learners built their vocabulary skills by using modern
technical tools such as the iPad. I feel that if we combined such a great and cool tool with
learning, then we have a successful combination.
My tutoring consists in providing ESL learners the ability to get familiarize with the iPad
as a learning tool and guide them through the self-paced web-based tutoring. Students can have
access to an iPad at the school iPad module center, if they don’t have one, and they will be able
to complete the tutoring at their own pace.
This is a fun and great online ESL vocabulary tutoring geared to help English deficient
adult learners the opportunity to build on their English vocabulary skills. The iPad plays an
instrumental component in this tutoring because it is the only tool needed to achieve success.
There is two part in this tutoring. First, you will learn the basics about the iPad functionalities
and how to access the vocabulary application. The second part consists of learning how to use
the vocabulary iPad dictionary application “Lingro” and be able to search and translate English
words into Spanish.

At the end of the first tutoring segment, learners will be asked a series of open ended questions.
The idea behind this is to have a clear understanding that they have grasped the main idea of the
tutoring and to build their motivation spirit. ESL learners are required to complete this first iPad
introductory training before they can move on to the next level. This decision is based on their
response to the questionnaire assessment, which they submit electronically. Learner then receive
an e-mail with specific instructions on how to proceed. Each iPad ESL learner creates his or her
own iPad account before they can begin training. This iPad tutoring review is intended to
provide learners with the basic understanding of the functionalities, features, and applications
needed to be successful in ESL vocabulary training. Once learner clears the first round of
tutoring successfully, they are allowed to start part two.
The second part consists of tutoring ESL learners on how to navigate the iPad dictionary
and translation application called “Lingro.” This a very versatile and useful application geared to
help learn any new language. Lingro allows translation from English to multiple languages. For
the purpose of this tutoring, I decided to make the translations from English to Spanish.
Basically, ESL learners learn to use Lingro through a series of step by step instruction. Once this
is covered, ESL learner are provided with a simple assessment that consists in finding the
Spanish definition of several English words. To achieve this, learners are required to apply what
they learned from part one of the tutoring and appropriately use Lingro search engines to find the
correct definition. ESL learners will then submit their answers electronically by pressing the
Submit button embedded in the tutoring. These answers are then reviewed and graded. Learners
receive a final feedback about their performance.

I decided to create a final survey questionnaire designed to assess the tutoring
effectiveness and recommendations for future changes. This is a great way for assessing my
strengths and weaknesses as a web-based tutoring designer. I feel I have achieved something
positive in this ESL tutoring format. In one of my survey questions, I asked the participants if
they would like to see similar trainings like this in the near future. I feel there is a lot more that
can be done to help learners across the spectrum. I ready to assume my next responsibility.
