• The first type of Debit securities is BONDS. Bonds are issued by corporations and government (both local and national government).
• The second important type of Debit security is NOTES. Apart from similarities associated with notes and bonds, notes have shorter term maturity.
• The 3rd important type of Debit security is TRESURY BILLS. These securities have short-term ranging from three months, six months, and one year. Issuer of such securities are governments.

Following are the risk attached with debt securities: Credit risk, interest rate risk and currency risk
There are no fixed maturity dates in such securities, and asset’s value is determined by company’s performance. There are two major types of equity securities: common stock and preferred stock.
Common Stock: These are simple equity securities and bear no complexities which the preferred stock bears. Holders of such securities or instrument have the voting rights when it comes to select the company’s board of director or the business decisions to be made.
Preferred Stock: Preferred stocks are sometime referred to as hybrid securities, because it contains elements of both debit security and equity security. Preferred stock confers ownership rights to security holder that is why it is equity instrument

EQUITY MARKET Markets closed on a flattish note, erasing gains in last couple of hours of trade, on back of profit booking in interest-sensitive stocks, after the RBI kept interest rates unchanged in its bi-monthly monetary policy. Markets to open on a flattish note with positive bias taking mixed cues from other Asian markets. On the domestic front, the auto sector is likely to be in focus as auto companies are expected to announce their September auto sales numbers. But markets are likely to be flattish today, with consolidation seen ahead of long holidays.
DEBT MARKET & FOREX Bond yield ended up as RBI’s decision to cut held-to-maturity ratio in stages starting in January hurt sentiments. New 8.40% GS 2024 benchmark yield ended up 2bps at 8.51% against the previous close of 8.49%, moving in the range of 8.48% to 8.52%. INR weakened against dollar as month-end demand for the US currency from oil importers weighed on the local unit. Bond yields to be range bound today, with some volatility likely as banks prepare to close half-yearly books. Shorter end of the yield curve could see some movement as RBI to conduct 160bn rupee of 16-day term repo auction today.
