January 24, 2011 Volume: 1 | Issue: 389| November 1, 2010 INDIAN MARKET 21-Jan 20-Jan % Change COMMENTARY BSE Sensex 19,007 19,047 (0.21) INDIA NSE Nifty 5,697 5,712 (0.27) After two successive weeks of heavy losses, the bulls managed to retrieve some of the lost ground this BSE Midcap 7,191 7,176 0.21 week. But, the bears continue to fight and are in no mood to give up easily. The tug of war has led to BSE Smallcap 8,946 8,905 0.46 increased volatility.The market participants have been doing their own rebalancing of portfolios besides Nifty Junior 11,404 11,352 0.45 sector rotation.Markets ended with modest losses, as sustained selling in IT, FMCG and select Telecom CNX Midcap 8,216 8,203 0.16 stocks was countered by gains in Oil & Gas and Banking stocks. The Mid-Cap and Small-Cap stocks managed to buck the negative trend in the frontline counters.In the coming week all eyes would be on two big events i.e. the F&O expiry and the RBI monetary policy meet. They would set the tone for the Indian equity markets in the near term at least along with the quarterly results, and global cuesThe BSE GLOBAL MARKETS 21-Jan 20-Jan % Change Sensex lost 39 points to close at 19,007 and the NSE Nifty slipped 15 points to end at 5,697. Dow Jones Ind (USA) 11,872 11,823 0.41 Nasdaq Composite(USA) 2,689 2,704 (0.55) The market breadth was positive, though. Out of 2875 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1521 advancing S&P 500 (USA) 1,284 1,280 0.31 stocks as against 1239 declines.
