EQUITY MARKET Markets closed in green, buoyed by fuel reforms and hopes of Modi government going ahead with further economic initiatives after BJP’s strong show in state polls. Furthermore, positive overseas cues on the back of weekend rally in the US on upbeat earnings also bolstered the trading sentiments. Markets to open with positive bias tracking mixed trends seen in other Asian markets, as investors wait for economic data from China, to be released today. On domestic front power and mining companies will be in focus as Govt proposed an ordinance to allow e-auction of mines to private players while adding that state-run companies would be allocated mines directly.
DEBT MARKET & FOREX Bond yield ended down, after the deregulation of fuel prices and BJP’s wins in two state elections raised hopes of further reform measures from the government. New 8.40% GS 2024 benchmark yield ended down 3bps at 8.36% against the previous close of 8.39%. INR strengthened against dollar as a rise in local shares along with a weak trend in US dollar overseas helped the rupee rise even though sustained selling of the American currency by exporters capped Indian unit's gains. Bond yields to open flat and be range bound as Investors will be wary of adding new positions ahead of trading holiday starting Thursday. Shorter end of the yield curve will be under pressure as RBI conducted 100 bn reverse repo auction yesterday
