Older people in Utah demonstrate more concern about future water shortages than younger people. A survey of nearly 7,000 Utah residents found a positive relationship between age and levels of concern about water shortages in both the near and long term. Older females expressed the highest levels of concern. Younger generations who will experience future shortages the most were less worried. This supports emerging research finding age cohorts who experienced environmentalism earlier in life remain more concerned as they age. More study is needed on why age impacts concern and how perceptions align with realities of water availability.
