2. OUR PROPHET MOHAMMAD
S.A.W WAS THE BEST OF
TEACHERS
Common Misconception:
• Macaulay:“a single shelf of a good European library was worth the whole native
literature of India and Arabia.”
Truth:
• Nothing comparable to teachings of Islam about education exists in ENTIRE
Western Literature
OUR MISTAKE:
• By adoptingWestern methods & styles, we deny this truth, and teach students by
our actions thatWest is superior to us in educational methods and materials
.
3. THE METHOD OF TEACHING
DEEN
• Muslims know what Deen is, but have forgotten the method by which
Deen is spread.
• The work ofTableegh involves teaching Muslims how to spread Deen
so it comes into the lives of people.
• These lessons are applicable to ALL educational processes.
4. DUAL NATURE OF OUR
STRUGGLE
• Night Efforts & Day Efforts

Night Allah, Day World
• Individual Efforts and Group Efforts
We will be alone with Allah, questioned only about our own deeds,
not about others.
Ummah is like one body. The Prophet was full of concern and mercy
for all mankind.
5. 6:162 SAY: "TRULY, MY PRAYER AND MY
SACRIFICE (ALL MY STRUGGLES AND EFFORTS),
MY LIFE AND MY DEATH, ARE (ALL) FOR ALLAH,
THE CHERISHER OF THE WORLDS:
• Mistaking Means for Ends: Goal of our struggles is to find the
pathways to Allah.
• Example: Prophets delivered message, but guidance is solely with
Allah.
• Example: Urge the feeding of the poor, but goal is NOT elimination of
poverty.
• Our efforts on the world have spiritual goal. Example of pushing
against wall.
6. TEACHING/LEARNING AS
WORSHIP
• 51:56 I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me.
All actions of a Muslim are worship. How can we conduct a class so
that it becomes worship?
7. THE BEST OF DEEDS
• 67:2 Who hath created life and death that He may try you, which of you is best
in conduct; and He is the Mighty, Forgiving,
How to convert our teaching/study into the best of deeds?
8. ONE MISUNDERSTANDING
• Best deed is not a BIG deed – Shaheed,Alim, Generous Man.
• Sadaqa of a date, or a bunch of dates
• The Blood and Meat does not reach Him, but the feeling in your heart
does.
9. FIVE INGREDIENTS OF BEST
DEEDS
• Intention – Niyyah
• Amr-ullah – the order of Allah
• Sunnah – the way of the Prophet
• Fazail – understanding the value
• Sacrifice & Effort
10. INTENTIONS FOR STUDY
• Not for personal profit, but for sake of service to the Ummah.
• Allah makes the path to Jannah easy for those who seek knowledge.
• AllahT’aala guides those who struggle.
• Allah is the friend of those who believe, and leads them to the Light.
11. WRONG INTENTIONS
• It is narrated by Jabir R.A. that the prophet S.A.W. said: Do not seek
knowledge to demonstrate your superiority over the Ulema, or to
argue with the ignorant, or to entertain audiences. The Fire is for
those who do this
12. WRONG INTENTIONS
• Seeking superiority, pride in knowledge
• Learning to argue or debate well
• For adornment of conversations
• For attracting attention to oneself
13. THE ORDER OF ALLAH
• 2:151 Even as We have sent unto you an apostle from among yourselves to
convey unto you Our messages, and to cause you to grow in purity, and to impart
unto you revelation and wisdom, and to teach you that which you knew not
14. ORDERS OF ALLAH
• Pray to Allah for more knowledge.
• Those who know are superior.
• Make room for newcomers in learning circles.
• Knowledge is one of great treasures of Allah
• Men of Knowledge valued over Men ofWorship.
15. SUNNAH OF THE PROPHET
• 4:113 God has bestowed upon thee from on high this divine writ and [given
thee] wisdom, and has imparted unto thee the knowledge of what thou didst not
know. And God's favour upon thee is tremendous indeed
Regard knowledge as a tremendous blessing, and give thanks to Allah
for bestowing it upon us.
16. SUNNAH
• Pray for an increase in knowledge
• Extreme Concern to spread it to others.
• This treasure is not reduced by giving.
• Value newcomers/students.
• Act on our knowledge.
• Be steadfast in our pursuit of knowledge.
17. FAZAIL: ENTER THE HEART
It is narrated by Jabir R.A. that the Prophet S.A.W. stated that
Knowledge is of two kinds. One which enters the hearts, and that is the
useful knowledge. The other is only on the tongue (without action or
sincerty) and that is argument of Allah against the son of Adam A.S.
Hadeeth 6 in Muntakhib Ahadeeth Ilmo-Zikr.
18. HOW THE PROPHET TAUGHT:
• Comparison of Camel with Ayat
• Comparison ofWar Booty with Ishraq
Using this method:
Sajda to Adam a.s. because of his knowledge.
God makes path to Jannah easy,Angels spread wings, and creatures seek
forgiveness for student.
19. THE STRUGGLE FOR
KNOWLEDGE
• 29:69 And those who strive in Our (cause),- We will certainly guide them to our
Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right.
Struggle linked with knowledge.
Try to change the world, you will be guided.
Entirely different from the neutral observer methodology of west.
