LỜI GIỚI THIỆU
Cuốn sách Hướng dẫn ôn tập tiếng Anh theo định dạng VSTEP bậc 5 được biên soạn nhằm
cung cấp đầy đủ kiến thức tiếng Anh nâng cao như ngữ pháp, cấu trúc câu, bài tập ngữ pháp,
định dạng bài thi, cách tính điểm, bảng mô tả năng lực ứng với điểm thi, đồng thời hướng
dẫn cách làm bài với 4 kĩ năng: Nghe, Nói, Đọc và Viết và các bài thi mẫu tiếng Anh VSTEP
bậc 3-5. Với những phương pháp làm bài và kinh nghiệm được chia sẻ trong cuốn sách này
hi vọng sẽ giúp ích cho người học ôn luyện và đạt được tiếng Anh bậc 5 theo khung năng
lực ngoại ngữ 6 bậc dành cho Việt Nam như mong muốn.

II. CÁCH TÍNH ĐIỂM BÀI THI VSTEP 3-5
- Mỗi kỹ năng thi: Nghe, Đọc, Viết và Nói được đánh giá trên thang điểm từ 0 đến
10, làm tròn đến 0,5 điểm.
- Điểm trung bình của 4 kỹ năng, làm tròn đến 0,5 điểm, được sử dụng để xác định
bậc năng lực sử dụng tiếng Anh.
Bậc 3 (tương đương B1 theo Khung tham chiếu châu Âu): 4.0 - 5.5
Bậc 4 (tương đương B2 theo Khung tham chiếu châu Âu): 6.0 - 8.0
Bậc 5 (tương đương C1 theo Khung tham chiếu châu Âu): 8.5 - 10

Có thể hiểu được các ý chính của một đoạn văn hay bài
phát biểu chuẩn mực về câu từ, rõ ràng về các chủ đềquen
thuộc hay gặp trong công việc, học tập, giải trí, v.v... Có
thể xử lí hầu hết các tình huống xảy ra lúc đi lại tại khu
vực có sử dụng tiếng Anh. Có thể viết văn bản đơn giản
liên quan đến các chủ đề quen thuộc hoặc cá nhân quan
tâm. Có thể mô tả được những trải nghiệm, sự kiện, mơ
ước, hi vọng, hoài bão và có thể trình bày ngắn gọn các lí
do, giải thích cho ý kiến và kế hoạch của mình.

Có thể hiểu ý chính của một văn bản phức tạp về các chủ
đề cụ thể và trừu tượng, kể cả những trao đổi kĩ thuật thuộc
lĩnh vực chuyên môn của bản thân. Có thể giao tiếp ở mức
độ trôi chảy, tự nhiên đạt đến mức các giao tiếp thường
xuyên này với người bản ngữ không gây khó khăn cho cả
hai bên. Có thể viết được các văn bản rõ ràng, chi tiết về
nhiều chủ đề khác nhau và có thể giải thích quan điểm của
mình về một vấn đề có tính thời sự, nêu ra được những ưu
điểm, nhược điểm của các phương án lựa chọn khác nhau.

CÁC CHỦ ĐIỂM NGỮ PHÁP TRỌNG TÂM
I. ĐỘNG TỪ
1.1. Nội động từ
- Là các động từ (V) mà bản thân nó đã hoàn thiện về mặt nghĩa, không đòi hỏi có tân ngữ
(O) hay bổ ngữ (C) đi kèm.
Ví dụ (Ex): The performance begins in 15 minutes.
- Là các động từ có thể chưa hoàn thiện về mặt nghĩa, yêu cầu có bổ ngữ đi kèm. Bổ ngữ C.
này có thể là danh từ (N) hoặc tính từ (adj) trong hầu hết các trường hợp. Các bổ ngữ cung
cấp thêm thông tin mô tả cho chủ ngữ (S) của câu.
Ex: Mr. Railey is (V) the manager (C) of the Sales Department.
- Các nội động từ phổ biến có bổ ngữ đi kèm
Nhóm mang nghĩa become Become, come, fall, get, grow, make, run, turn
Nhóm mang nghĩa remain Remain, hold, keep, lie, stand, stay
Nhóm mang nghĩa seem Seem + (to be), appear, turn out + (to be)
Nhóm thể hiện quan điểm, tri nhận Feel, look, smell, sound, taste
Ex: Her face turned red when he pointed out her mistakes.
The dish you made looked strange but tased good.
1.2 Ngoại động từ
- Là các động từ đòi hỏi có tân ngữ (O) đi kèm.
Ex: Ms. Benson explained (V) the new schedule (O).
- Một số ngoại động từ có thể có hai tân ngữ: bring, give, inform, lend, offer, pass, send,
show, take, teach, tell.
Ex: Please pass (V) me (O) the salad bowl (O).
- Một số ngoại động từ có một tân ngữ đi kèm một bổ ngữ của tân ngữ: find, keep, see,
watch, hear, listen to, feel, smell
Ex: People found (V) the performance (O) interesting (C).

II. HƯỚNG DẪN LÀM BÀI
2.1. Hướng dẫn làm bài
- Dành thời gian đọc kĩ các câu hỏi và các phương án trả lời trước khi nghe, gạch chân vào
các từ khóa để tập trung sự chú ý và có định hướng trước về thông tin cần tìm. Nếu thời
gian không đủ để bạn đọc các phương án trả lời, hãy cố gắng đọc trước các câu hỏi.
- Không cố gắng nghe mọi từ trong bài, chú ý tới từ khóa để xác định vị trí thông tin và các
từ mang nội dung (content words) để hiểu thông tin, thường là danh từ, động từ, tính từ,
trạng từ. Các từ này thường sẽ được người nói nhấn mạnh trong đoạn ghi âm.
- Không chọn ngay đáp án khi nghe thấy thông tin đầu tiên được đề cập (đặc biệt đối với
phần nghe Part 1). Hãy ghi nhớ hoặc ghi chú thông tin vừa nghe thấy và tiếp tục nghe xem
người nói có xác nhận hoặc thay đổi thông tin gì không trước khi đưa ra lựa chọn cuối cùng.
- Ở phần 2 và 3, thông tin để trả lời thường xuất hiện theo thứ tự câu hỏi, do đó hãy chú ý

Welcome to Manham Port, where a thousand years of history are brought to life. All
the family can enjoy a day out at Manham: visit our copper mine, see models of the
machinery it used, have your photo taken in nineteenth-century costume, experience at first
hand how people lived at different stages throughout history, and especially how children
studied, worked and played.
The port of Manham is located in beautiful and peaceful countryside, on a bend in
the great River Avon, and developed here because it’s the highest navigable point of the
Avon - boats can go no higher up this river - and proved a handy place to load and unload
cargo to and from the sea (1), which is over 23 miles away. A small port was already
established here when, about 900 years ago, tin was discovered nearby, though it wasn't
until the Industrial Revolution, when a tremendous need for metals of all kinds developed,
that Manham expanded to become one of the busiest ports in the country (2), And because
it was already so busy, prospectors began to look for other minerals, and by the end of the
nineteenth century, lead, copper, manganese and arsenic were added to the cargos leaving
Manham.
In the early days, the ores had been smelted - or processed - in the same area they
were mined. But, as demand grew, the smelting process required huge factory furnaces or
fires to melt the metal from the rock and there was not enough coal in the local area, so the
rocks containing minerals had to be shipped long distances. (3)
Sadly, in the twentieth century, the great port of Manham declined, and thousands
of workers were forced to emigrate out of the area. (4) The building at the port fell into
disrepair, and the place became almost forgotten. But then, the Manham Trust was formed
to conserve the historical resources of the area. It organised scores of local volunteers to
remove undergrowth to find the original outlines of the installations. It then brought in paid
professionals to match installations with maps of the original port complex and to set about
reconstructing it. (5) Today you can see the results of this ambitious programme of
restoration. The intention, and we believe this will be realised before the end of the year, is
to return Manham Port to the condition it reached at its peak as ‘the greatest copper port in
the country.
