The document outlines the author's visual diary project for a motion graphics course. It includes pages on the history of motion graphics, contemporary styles, famous designers like Walt Disney and Saul Bass, and the author's own motion graphic works. The author's project included creating kinetic typography, TV title sequences, and infographics based on research into the field. It shows the process and outcomes and fulfills the course requirements of showcasing motion graphic techniques and skills learned.
The field of 3D animation has grown tremendously over the years.Early developments in the University of Utah by Ed Sullivan who innovated modelling and cgi effects eventually goes on to found Pixar, one of the world leaders in 3d animation.
Motion graphics are pieces of digital footage or animation that create the illusion of motion or rotation and are usually combined with audio for use in multimedia projects. Motion graphics are usually displayed via electronic media technology, but may also be displayed via manual powered technology (e.g. thaumatrope, the phenakistoscope, stroboscope, zoetrope, praxinoscope, flip book). The term distinguishes still graphics from those with a transforming appearance over time, without over-specifying the form. While any form of experimental or abstract animation can be called motion graphics, the term typically more explicitly refers to the commercial application of animation and effects to video, film, TV, and interactive applications.
Motion graphics extend beyond the most commonly used methods of frame-by-frame footage and animation. Motion graphics can be distinguished from typical animation in that they are not strictly character driven or story based and often represent animated abstract shapes and forms such as logos or logo elements.
The beauty, power, creativity, and versatility of 2D animation have made it a treasured art form for
many decades. Understanding its history, tools, styles, and potential can help you to gain a better grasp of how the 2D animation studio can assist your own project. For more information, visit http://www.powerhouseanimation.com/

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

3. Introduction
Specification
This is my visual for MED102 Motion Graphics for Adrian Hickey where I will showcase the research
I have done into different Motion graphic designers which has give made ideas and tips on how to
make my different motion graphics. It will also show case how I have made each of the different
motion graphics for this module of my course. This module has gave me the understanding of the
most basic components of motion graphics that has been introduced to me such as frame, sound,
rhythm,tempo,time,motion and sequencing.
For this module I had two different specifications
as I had two different tasks to do, my first
specification was that I must Submit three
different pieces of Motion Graphics. Each piece
Will last no less than 10 seconds. All students
will
Create examples of the following types of Motion
Graphics: 1. Kinetic Typography
2. TV/Film titles
3. Infographics
The outcomes must be delivered online hosted
on Vimeo. You should check your Vimeo links
contain your work as dead links will receive no
Grade.
For my second assignment my specification was
that I must Produce Motion Graphics using After
Effects software this can take the form of a music
video, a movie title sequence, an animation,
kinetic typography etc. The practical production
outcome will be developed in accordance with
the theories and research disseminated in the
lecture series, the theoretical and practical
research from Coursework 3 and the software
skills undertaken in the workshops. Students are
also required to upload a 10 second clip from
Assessment 2 to Blackboard for use in future
showreels.
5. History of Motion
graphicsMotion graphics dates back to the early 1800’s where
animation devices like flip books were made to produce
movement in sequential drawings, although animation
didn’t really start until the start of cinematography.
There was not just one single person who started up
motion graphics there are so many different people who
contributed to the first motion graphics such as Marcel
Duchamp,Walter Ruttmann, and Fernand Lager’s work
which will show experimenting in mixing techniques
and media for film. There were many other people who
were considered pioneers in the fields such as Saul
Bass,Pablo Ferro and John Whitney.
Saul Bass is a very well
known in the field of motion
graphics and is known as
pioneer in the development of
feature film title sequences.
Some of the most famous title
sequences that he made include
The Man With The Golden
Arm(1955), Psycho(1960),
Goodfellas(1990), and Casino
(1995).

7. CONTEMPORARY MOTION
GRAPHICSFlat Design
Flat designs are often used in infographics for
video marketing, they use flat design which also
to mix of the information with aesthetics that
engages audiences.
Multiple Overlaid Videos
Multiple overlaid videos is using the ‘masking’
techniques to overlay footage into different shapes
and frames. This is often used for titles sequences
as it is open to interpretation.
.
Bitesize Content
Bitesize content includes things like Gifs,
autoplay and square Instagram videos and
Facebook videos. Now meme culture has
evolved gifs into a important tool for marketing
and is used as a method of communication.

21. iNfographic on
Dyslexia
I will now go onto to do a detailed step by step of how I made my infographic on Dyslexia. I
decided to do it on dyslexia as it is something I know quite a bit about as I have the learning
difficulty and I know from experience that it is often pushed under the rug.
Step one:
To start of my infographic on dyslexia I first
went and researched different facts about the
learning condition so I could put them in my
motion graphic. To get the word dyslexia to
come in from the side I made different position
keyframes to have it slowly move into the
position that I wanted it to go to.
Step two:
The next step I went on to do was to add the
definition of dyslexia below it where I used the
typewriter effect to have the text look like it is
being typed in below the word dyslexia. I then
made more keyframes for each of the different
bits of text so over time they words would fade
out and onto the next frame of my infographic.
22. Step three:
For my next step I went on and did some
research on the symptoms of dyslexia where
I found two of the main symptoms of dyslexia
that you can see in the screenshot below. For
this piece of text I also used the typewriter
effect as I wanted to keep the continuity of my
text being typed out throughout my motion
graphic.
Step four:
For my next step I added in the main to
symptoms that I found out while I researched
about dyslexia. I once again used the
typewriter effect to keep the continuity flowing
throughout. I then made more keyframes for
each of the different bits of text so over time
they words would fade out and onto the next
frame of my infographic.
Step five:
For my next step I made a range of different
keyframes which allowed me to move the 1 to
the position that I wanted it to be placed from
taking it in from the side. I also made more
keyframes for the number one so over time
they words would fade out and onto the next
frame of my infographic.
23. Step six:
For my next step I made a range of different
keyframes which allowed me to move the next
part of the fact to the position that I wanted
it to be placed from taking it in from the top.
I also made more keyframes for the different
part of the text so over time they words
would fade out and onto the next frame of my
infographic.
Step seven:
For my next step I went onto YouTube and
from our workshops look at how to make a
circle for the percentage to represent. I did
this as from researching other infographic I
seen that it was a good way to present your
fact or information.
Step eight:
For my next step I added in the fact that went
with the percentage circle beside it and used
the typewriter effect to continue the continui-
ty throughout my motion graphic. I also used
multiple keyframes to allow the text to fade
in gradually as the circle was coming to the
place that I wanted it to stop at.
24. Step nine:
For my next step I made more keyframes for
the text in this frame so over time they words
would fade out and onto the next frame of my
infographic.
Step ten:
For my next step I found a image of 6 people
which would help to show may fact as it
was 1 out of 6. I Made a range of different
opacity keyframes which allowed my photo to
gradually fade in to the frame instead of just
popping in all at once.
Step eleven:
For my next step I added the typewriter ef-
fect on the text in the frame as I had used it
throughout my motion graphic and wanted
to continue to use it. I then went on to make
more keyframes for the text in this frame so
over time they words would fade out and onto
the next frame of my infographic.
25. Step twelve:
For my last step I decided to continue to use the typewriter effect for the text as it worked well with
all the other bit of text and I wanted to ensure that the continuity of my infographic motion graph-
ic was all the same. I then again made more keyframes for the this last piece of text so over time
they words would fade out and easily end my motion graphic.
27. Kinetic typography on
the poem Memories By
Jane kimI will now go onto to do a detailed step by step of how I made my kinetic typography motion
graphic on the poem Memories by Jane Kim
Step one:
To start of my kinetic typography I first went
and researched different poems and picked
the one I liked the most which was this poem
my Jane Kim. I also went on to find a photo
for throughout my kinetic typography motion
graphic.
Step two:
For my next step I started to break down
each of the different sections of the poem.
With each of the different words or sentences
I used a different effect for the text to come
in. Such as the “fade away” part in the poem
I made it come in as it was being typed and
then made it fade away like it says.
28. Step three:
For my next step I added in another few parts
of the poem and used the fade out for the text
before so the next part of the poem would
gradually fade in and not come in abruptly.
Step four:
For my next step I continued to fade in and
fade out my text which allowed me to add
more of my poem which flowed seamlessly
due to the text fading out.
Step five:
For this step I used different key frames
which helped me to get my text to swing in to
the place that I wanted it to stay. I also added
different key frames on the text which made it
slowly fade out.
29. Step six:
For this step I used different key frames to
allow the different pieces of text to come in
at different times so there wasn’t just a large
piece of writing on the screen.
Step seven:
For my second last step I used all of the same
movement that I have used throughout my
kinetic typography motion graphic to help
finish off my piece. I also ensured that all
my text would slowly fade out on to the last
section of my motion graphic.
Step eight:
For my final step I used the type writer effect
to say the name of the poem and who the
poem was by.
31. Tv title inspired by the tv
programme dexter
I will now go onto to do a detailed step by step of how I made my TV title which was inspired by the
opening title sequence of Dexter.
Step one:
To start of my title sequence I went on to look
at a range of TV and movie programmes title
sequence and found that Dexter was the one
I enjoyed the most therefore I want to make
something that resembled it. I did this by
finding a range of royal free clips
Step two:
For my next step I added I fake name which
would act as one of the actresses names in
the fake TV title sequence I created. I placed
it in the top right corner as from looking at a
range of title sequences I seen that the names
of actors or actresses where always in the
corners of the screen.
32. Step three:
For my next step I went and found another
royal free short clip only instead of being the
time-laps of the busy street I decided to use a
old close up of a vinyl player.
Step four:
For my next step I went on to add another
name to my TV title sequence so it would look
more like a real one. I used the fade in and
fade out effect which helped it to gradually
come on the screen.
Step five:
For my next step I went and found another
royal free short clip this one being of smoke
covering the whole screen which helped
to give it sort of a eerie effect to my title
sequence.
33. Step six:
For my next step I went on to add another
name to my TV title sequence so it would look
more like a real one. I used the fade in and
fade out effect which helped it to gradually
come on the screen.
Step seven:
For my next step I went and found another
royal free short clip which was of embers of a
fire which helped to related to the smoke clip
in the one previous .
Step eight:
For my next step I went on to add the name
of my fake title sequence and placed it in the
centre of the screen so it would stand out
more than the names of the cast.
34. Step nine:
For my next step I added in
the references to where I got
my chips from.
Step ten:
For my next step I added
music into my TV title which
helped it to look more
realistic.
