Welcome to AS Media Studies at Aquinas
Students are instructed to arrange themselves alphabetically by surname for a media studies course. A Midsummer Night's Dream
A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare is about four young Athenian lovers, their relationships, and the events that transpire in an enchanted forest. The play involves the intermingling storylines between the lovers, led astray by a mischievous fairy named Puck, and a group of amateur actors rehearsing in the same forest. Through magic and mistaken identities, the lovers endure romantic complications and misunderstandings before the play concludes with their relationships resolved and a humorous play-within-the-play performed for the married couples.
Ancient Greek Theatre
The theater of ancient Greece flourished between 550-220 BCE in the city-state of Athens. Plays were performed as part of religious festivals honoring Dionysus, with theaters built into hillsides. Tragedies and comedies were most popular, performed by 3 actors and a chorus. Plays examined human condition and fate. Choruses provided commentary through song and dance, wearing masks and costumes. Greek theater traditions like masks and staging influenced modern theater.
My Brother Gabriel
My brother Gabriel is five years younger than me. He dropped out of high school but later pursued his dream of becoming a chef by studying culinary arts and food service management at Johnson and Wales University. He worked hard to support himself through school, including studying wine in several European countries. Gabriel has since achieved his goal and is now an assistant manager at a French/Vietnamese fusion restaurant in Manhattan.

1) Ancient Greeks had a narrow understanding of Africans, referring to all black people as "Ethiopians". Their knowledge of African geography was vague.
2) Early Greek literature and art provided some exposure to Africans, depicting them in myths, plays, and vase paintings usually characterized by their black skin.
3) Increased trade with Egypt in later periods led to greater familiarity with and integration of Africans into Greek society, shown through fine art portraits and depictions of occupations. However, many Africans were also enslaved.

While there, she visited several iconic London landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the London Eye, King's Cross Station Platform 9 3/4, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, and the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. Who was Clovis I?
Clovis I was the first king of the Franks who united the Frankish tribes and laid the foundations for the kingdom of France. Through military conquests including defeating the Visigoths at the Battle of Vouille in 507, Clovis consolidated control over what is now France and parts of western Germany. Clovis established both a hereditary monarchy and lasting cultural blending of Roman and Germanic influences in Gaul.

- 2. Museum Visit • PLAN! Research the museum online- Find 5 famous works or exhibits to take a picture with. Save this information for your PowerPoint. • Visit one of the following Museums • (Give in your ticket and a map as evidence) (10 points) – Metropolitan Museum of Art – Museum of Modern Art • Take pictures with the 5 famous works (10 points) – (NO FLASH IN MUSEUMS!!!) – You must be in the picture next to the work. • Put the 5 pictures in a PowerPoint. (10 points). • Label the pictures with the information you know about the work: Artist, date, medium. (10 points) • On each slide Tell why these works are important and why they are interesting. (20 Points) • Print the PowerPoint and hand it in to Ms. ARod (20 points) • Bring on USB flashdrive, Present the PowerPoint to the class- Colorful, interesting, with enough writing. (20 points) Bonus points for Animation, music etc.

Researching a Painter • Choose a painter (you may use one from the Extra Credit list) • Research this painter online • Create an annotated recommended website list for other students to use. – How many websites? List 10 websites (40 points) – What’s annotated mean? For each website describe the quality of information available and why you recommend it to other students (50 points) – How should it look? Submit this typed list with your name, teacher, class date and a title. You can put pictures, borders and interesting font styles on this project. (10 points)

Drawing • Choose a subject: Celebrity or Movie scene – Title the picture based on your subject – Your name, Teacher, Class and Date in the bottom right hand corner of the drawing. – Submit the picture you are using. (25 points) • Use the grid method to place all the parts correctly. (25 points), • Draw the portrait on sketch paper with drawing pencils (25 points) • Use values of dark and light, hatching, cross-hatching, and blending, and eraser lift off. (25 points) • BONUS POINTS IF YOU TAKE PICTURES OF EACH STEP OF YOUR DRAWING!!
