This document describes the development of a virtual instrumentation system for measuring strain using thin film strain gauge sensors. Thin film nickel-chromium strain gauges were deposited on a beryllium copper cantilever substrate using DC magnetron sputtering. The strain gauges were connected to a National Instruments data acquisition system using a signal conditioning unit. A LabVIEW virtual instrument was created to acquire and display the strain measurements in engineering units as weights were added to the cantilever. The indicated strain measurements matched the calculated strain values to within 0.5% error, demonstrating the effectiveness of the virtual instrumentation system for measuring micro-strain.
This presentation content various types of strain gauges, derivation of gauge factor.
Various course having subject as instrumentation, measuring devices, contenting strain measurement as a topic so introduction to strain gauge can help to understand the topic.
A Strain gauge (sometimes refereed to as a Strain gauge) is a sensor whose resistance varies with applied force; It converts force, pressure, tension, weight, etc., into a change in electrical resistance which can then be measured. When external forces are applied to a stationary object, stress and strain are the result. Learn and Enjoy.
This ppt includes different types of strain gauges which are used for pressure, temperature, force, acceleration etc measurement.
All types of strain gauges are included. Also temperature compensation is also explained.

Eddy current inspection is one of several NDT methods that use the principal of “electromagnetism” as the basis for conducting examinations.
Eddy currents are created through a process called electromagnetic induction. When alternating current is applied to the conductor, such as copper wire, a magnetic field develops in and around the conductor. This magnetic field expands as the alternating current rises to maximum and collapses as the current is reduced to zero. If another electrical conductor is brought into the close proximity to this changing magnetic field, current will be induced in this second conductor. Eddy currents are induced electrical currents that flow in a circular path. They get their name from “eddies” that are formed when a liquid or gas flows in a circular path around obstacles when conditions are right.

In induction hardening, thermal fatigue is one of the main failure modes of induction heating coils. There have been papers published that describe this failure mode and others that describe some good design practices [1-3]. The variables previously identified as the sources of thermal fatigue include radiation from the part surface, frequency, current, concentrator losses, water pressure and coil wall thickness. However, there is very little quantitative data on the factors that influence thermal fatigue in induction coils available in the public domain. By using finite element analysis software this study analyzes the effect of common design variables of inductor cooling, and quantifies the relative importance of these variables. A comprehensive case study for a single shot induction coil with Fluxtrol A concentrator applied is used for the analysis.

Displacement mechanical amplifiers designed on poly-siliconIJECEIAES
Using Poly-Silicon, the implementation of novel Displacement-amplifying Compliant Mechanisms (DaCM), in two geometries of accelerometers, allows for remarkable improvements in their operation frequency and displacement sensitivity, with different proportions. Similar DaCM´s geometries were previously implemented by us with Silicon. In all mentioned cases, the geometries of DaCM´s are adjusted in order to use them with Conventional Capacitive Accelerometer (CCA) and Capacitive Accelerometer with Extended Beams (CAEB), which operate in-plane mode, (y-axis). It should be noted that CAEB shows improvements (95.33%) in displacement sensitivity compared to ACC. Simulations results, carried out using Ansys Workbench software, validate the system’s performance designed with Poly-Silicon. Finally, a comparison with the similar systems, previously designed with Silicon, is also carried out.
VIBRATION ANALYSIS FOR DAMAGE DETECTION IN COMPOSITE PLATE BY USING PIEZOELEC...IAEME Publication
This study focuses on an active monitoring method for damage detection applied to composite structures. Different specimens made up of fiber epoxy resin in the form of composite structures are studied. Wavelet analysis methods are adopted to post process the raw monitored signal. A new damage signature is introduced to determine the presence and extent of damage in composites, while eliminating the influence of different distances between the active actuator and active monitoring elements. The proposed method is shown to be effective, reliable, and straightforward for the specimens considered in the present study, which are composed of different materials and suffer various levels of damage. An online real-time active monitoring system for
damage detection is described that is based on this research.

Maintenance is a set of organised activities that are carried out in order to keep an item in its best
operational condition with minimum cost acquired. Predictive maintenance (PdM) is one of the maintenance
program that recommends maintenance decisions based on the information collected through condition
monitoring techniques, statistical process control or equipment performance for the purpose of early detection
and elimination of equipment defects that could lead to unplanned downtime of machinery or unnecessary
expenditures. Particularly Gears and rolling element bearings are critical elements in rotating machinery, so
predictive maintenance is often applied to them. Fault signals of gearboxes or rolling-element bearings are nonstationary.
This paper concludes with a brief discussion on current practices of PDM methodologies such as
vibration analysis and Acoustic Emission analysis, which are widely used as they offers a complimentary tool
for health monitoring or assessment of gears in rotating machineries

Tech transfer making it as a risk free approach in pharmaceutical and biotech iniaemedu
Tech transfer is a common methodology for transferring new products or an existing
commercial product to R&D or to another manufacturing site. Transferring product knowledge to the
manufacturing floor is crucial and it is an ongoing approach in the pharmaceutical and biotech
industry. Without adopting this process, no company can manufacture its niche products, let alone
market them. Technology transfer is a complicated, process because it is highly cross functional. Due
to its cross functional dependence, these projects face numerous risks and failure. If anidea cannot be
successfully brought out in the form of a product, there is no customer benefit, or satisfaction.
Moreover, high emphasis is in sustaining manufacturing with highest quality each and every time. It
is vital that tech transfer projects need to be executed flawlessly. To accomplish this goal, risk
management is crucial and project team needs to use the risk management approach seamlessly.
