The Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998 extended copyright terms in the United States. The act is nicknamed the "Mickey Mouse Protection Act" as Disney lobbied for the extension to prevent Mickey Mouse works from entering the public domain. - 2. Nowadays there are a lot of cases about the violation of copyright law. The violation of copyright law could happen anytime to anybody, even to the world's famous authors. Most of the people of the world is not familiar about the violation of copyright law. There are lots of journalist that their common talent is to keep on copypasting information from other journalists. The violation of copyright law is among of the common problems of authors, journalists and writers.
- 3. International Facts About Violation of Copyright Law Two ways to secure the international copyright protection. Obtain separate and independent copyright protection in a country. Through international conventions or treaties. Criminal copyright law exists to protect the creative property of authors, writers, and journalists all over the world.
- 4. National facts about the Violation of Copyright Law In the Philippines, infringement of copyright is punishable under sections 216-217 of the Intellectual Property Code. The ALA Code of Ethics (1995) provides, in its statement of principles, that the members of the Association “recognize and respect intellectual property rights The Electronic Commerce Act (Rep. Act No. 8792, 2000) penalizes “piracy or the unauthorized copying. Since protection of copyright is part of the laws of the land, it becomes an ethical issue for librarians. In the Philippines, the IP Code laid down some rules for library photocopying.
