Tatja Scholte is programmaleider van Object in Context. Zij doet promotieonderzoek naar ‘new strategies in the conservation of modern art’.

Going beyond the usual studies on poverty and gender, this research study records the powerful resilience of women in resisting impoverishment, in all its forms. Women’s resistance is long-term and traverses sectors and venues, but without the necessary support and organisation, it can be sporadic and unsystematic.
The law offers hope to women. The law needs to be encouraged to serve as a support, since it is relatively neutral and universal. For gender equality, the law needs to be constantly monitored and checked. Positive law needs to be aligned with the framework and norms of human rights –-particularly so for issues of violations of women’s rights. These cannot remain hidden away in domestic space or concealed by layers of culture.

Two years ago one of the harshest industrial incident occurred in Dhaka. Rana Plaza, one of the most popular fashion cloth production destinations collapsed, killing close to 1000 people and injuring another 2,500. This was considered a result of not worry about the conditions the real producers work in and blindly participating in the race to produce the best fashion collections.
As a tribute to this tragedy, Fashion revolution, an online revolt was started which gained much popularity. It invited people to wear their clothes inside out and show the brand tag on them, with a question ‘who made my clothes?’ This was to increase transparency between the buyers and sellers of the clothes.

Abstract
Copyright, Creative Commons and Libre Culture in New Zealand Dr Mark McGuire, University of Otago, New Zealand
In 2001, Lawrence Lessig pointed out that, when considering of the ownership, regulation and governance of the virtual commons, we must take into account the “physical” layer, the “logical” or “code” layer, and the “content” layer, which includes the text, images, music, animations, movies and other digital material accessed over the internet. In an effort to free up the “content” layer, creativecommons.org went online in 2002, allowing individuals to attach “some rights reserved” licences to their work. This development was in response to changes in US copyright laws that the Creative Commons founders (including Lessig) argued hindered access to creative works. Since then, the Creative Commons Licenses have been ported to over fifty jurisdictions, including New Zealand.
As in the US, copyright has become more restrictive in New Zealand. The introduction of the “Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Act 2011” enables owners of copyrighted works to penalize individuals for violating their copyright through online file sharing without providing adequate protection from unfair prosecution. The Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), a trade agreement that New Zealand is negotiating with the US and nine other countries, could extend the length of copyright of creative work from the life of the author plus 50 years after his or her death, by a further 20 years.
As Yochai Benkler notes (2006), formal institutions are working to extend the scope and reach of excusive rights over cultural resources, and the primary countervailing force against exclusivity is the cultural and social response represented by the nascent “free culture” movement and the growing individual practice of sharing work with others to create a domain of free resources for common use. In this paper, I discuss institutional efforts to strengthen copyright in New Zealand and discuss the use of Creative Commons licenses as an alternative.

"Let's Marathon!" Why to motivate the re-use of audiovisual archives? Mariana Salgado
This presentation took place in NECS (European Network of Cinema and Media Studies) in Lodz, Poland (June, 2015). This is a summary of a full paper (forthcoming). It presents the argument that archivists and media scholars need to take on new practices, such as organizing hackathons or marathons, to facilitate the creative re-use of archival material. With these practices they could support the outreach of local communities and understand the nuances of reusing archival content to contextualize their records. In order to sustain this claim, I present one case study in which a group of international writers and video makers join forces to re-use audiovisual archive material in Helsinki, Finland. I unfold the limitations and opportunities that a one-day event presented to artists, archivists and media scholars, while collaborating and creatively re-using audiovisual archival material. The discussion uncovers issues pertaining to the facilitation of creative re-use as means for integration, the multicultural representation of the archives, the development of media literacy in collaborative processes and the challenges in the practice of legally reusing archival material.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
Hello everyone! I am thrilled to present my latest portfolio on LinkedIn, marking the culmination of my architectural journey thus far. Over the span of five years, I've been fortunate to acquire a wealth of knowledge under the guidance of esteemed professors and industry mentors. From rigorous academic pursuits to practical engagements, each experience has contributed to my growth and refinement as an architecture student. This portfolio not only showcases my projects but also underscores my attention to detail and to innovative architecture as a profession.
