This document discusses a theoretical framework for analyzing the effects of video media in education based on four communication theories: 1) Intrapersonal communication theory which examines self-talk and internal dialog that occurs when watching videos. 2) Modeling theory, such as observational learning and video self-modeling, which looks at how viewers learn from actors as role models in videos. 3) Priming theory, such as how flipped learning uses videos to activate prior knowledge and focus student attention before class. 4) Cultivation theory, such as how mainstream media can propagate and blend values and assumptions into viewers' perceptions of reality.
