  • #7 Summary of the benefits of the Veritas approach.
  • #8 Veritas was the pioneer of storage virtualization. We introduced this technology over twenty years ago, and now it is a staple in relation to an SDS deployment that so many start-ups are now chasing. Keeping data accessible and available seems like table stakes for most storage vendors – and it probably is. But there is a problem… Most data centers that we see are made up of different kinds of storage on different types of virtual and physical operating systems. If you have a completely monolithic data center environment, then listen no more. But, if your data center is like most of the large enterprises we see that have a very diverse set of technologies and tools, we have storage solution that will work on what you already have or intend to move to in the future. Most storage vendors only provide data accessibility and availability on their own systems. Where Veritas truly differentiates ourselves is in the capability to provide data accessibility and availability, whenever you need it, from where ever it resides on any class of storage array, or from any major Operating System platform. The capability to do this is unique to Veritas. We allow you share data across servers, without the need of an expensive SAN allowing you take advantage of cheaper Direct Attach Storage. Or use your SAN as a second tier and utilize your SSDs for the most important data and applications. We keep information flowing because we have intelligence that allows us to make the most use of your physical infrastructure. And we can protect your data locally or replicate it across a wide area – again using the storage class of your choice. This will help keep your storage costs in check and give you flexibility to negotiate with multiple different storage vendors. Performance is another key element in the deliver of Software-Defined Storage. SDS solutions need to have intelligence to understand what applications and information are the most important and then automatically assign the right storage resources to that application and information. Veritas storage management solutions can do this without the requirement of manual intervention. We are simplifying operational complexity because not only can we automate this process, we can do it across all major platforms and storage arrays (we support over 1,000 arrays from over 50 vendors). On the other hand, you have information that is not so critical to the business. You don’t want this information choking out your high end storage infrastructure like SSDs. Veritas can help you assign the less critical information to the right class of storage. This means you can store this data based on the right performance and cost attributes that make the most sense for the business. Veritas solutions scale to the largest data centers in the world. In face, 74% of the Fortune 100 are using our storage management solutions today. These are some of the biggest banks, telcos, health care companies and public sector agencies in the world. Features that address cost of ownership concerns include: Storage virtualization – supporting choice in storage hardware vendor Deduplication and compression – reducing the amount of storage hardware required. Thin reclamation – allowing you to reclaim thin-provisioned LUNs that are no longer required because the data they stored have been deleted Because Veritas has intelligence at the server level, we understand what data is necessary to keep, and what can safely be deleted. We can also work with your existing thin technology provided by your storage vendors to automatically provision storage, only when it is needed. The result of all of these capabilities is to help you use your storage resources efficiently to reduce cost and perhaps push out storage acquisitions to when you really need them. If you can push out these purchases, your cost will be lower because storage costs for both SSD and spinning disk decline over time. Think of what other projects you can take on with the cost savings.
  • #10 Note – this slide builds To illustrate how Veritas is addressing the challenge of data accessibility and availability, agility to adopt new technologies non-disruptively and to help you manage your service levels in a predictable fashion, I’d like to introduce you to the InfoScale family of solutions. Let’s start with InfoScale Enterprise – which is our full application availability and software-defined offering. It brings together the capabilities of the other InfoScale products and adds support for database high availability environments such as Oracle RAC (real application clusters) and Sybase ASE CE (cluster edition). Next are the two core SDS and availability products – they help address and meet customer needs in the storage management and application availability arenas separately: InfoScale Storage – InfoScale storage is the premier cross-platform host-based storage management solution. Basically, what you would need to meet your Software Defined Storage needs. InfoScale Availability – helps keep an organization’s information and critical business services up and running on premise and across globally dispersed data centers through local clustering and disaster recovery to remote sites and uses our industry leading, cross-platform clustering technology – the same technology that powers the well known Veritas Cluster Server. Please note that if you need support for Oracle RAC or Sybase ASE CE then the appropriate product is InfoScale Enterprise. Next, InfoScale Foundation – which is our base offering targeting storage management. It provides heterogeneous storage management while increasing storage utilization and enhancing storage I/O path availability and performance for physical and virtual environments. Finally, InfoScale Operations Manager, formerly Veritas Operations Manager, is the graphical management tool that helps you extract maximum value from your investment in InfoScale products – it is our front-end or GUI available (at no charge) with each of the four InfoScale core products. It brings value-added capabilities such as enabling our virtual business services (or VBS) capability, automation (such as run book automation) and supports managing license deployment and compliance, as well as active management of your InfoScale and previous SFHA deployments.
  • #11 Now that I’ve introduced the InfoScale family of solutions, let’s talk a little bit about the value these offerings provide. InfoScale helps customers take the next evolutionary step into the world of the Software-Defined Data Center. Veritas comes at this with a unique approach because we are the only vendor that combines storage and availability focusing on applications and data and not the infrastructure. InfoScale Foundation our base storage management offering, provides heterogeneous storage management while increasing visibility of the environment from application to backend storage. InfoScale storage is the premier cross-platform host-based storage management solution. InfoScale Storage builds on the InfoScale Foundation functionality by adding snapshots, replication and storage migration functionality. Basically, what you would need to meet your Software-Defined Storage needs. InfoScale storage allows you the choice of your storage platforms, enables high performance (400% better than the highest performing SAN architectures at 20% of the cost) and the capability to scale to 1,000s of virtual and physical machines. InfoScale Availability provides predictability such that IT organizations can ensure service levels to the business it supports, keeping everything up and running even when an event occurs and all of this is done automatically. As we already mentioned, InfoScale Enterprise combines InfoScale Storage and Availability capabilities. It is our full application availability and software-defined storage offering and adds support for database high availability environments such as Oracle RAC (real application clusters) and Sybase ASE CE (cluster edition). Please note that if you need support for Oracle RAC or Sybase ASE CE then the appropriate product is InfoScale Enterprise. Finally, InfoScale Operations Manager, formerly Veritas Operations Manager, is the graphical management tool that helps you extract maximum value from your investment in InfoScale products.
