The document summarizes a talk on venture capital performance and what venture capitalists do. It finds that:
1. Venture capital fundraising as a percentage of the stock market has been stable between 0.1-0.2% historically, with outliers in 1999-2001. Performance varies by vintage year but funds have generally beaten the S&P 500 since 2003 according to public market equivalent measures.
2. Private equity has significantly outperformed venture capital for 1999-2005 vintages but underperformed for post-2006 vintages.
3. Going forward, returns are expected to be negatively related to fundraising levels, which have recovered from lows after the financial crisis but remain below historical averages.
Simple steps how to define competencies you need to support your organization strategies and the simple steps to design and develop performance-based instructions if the solution requires for it.
Accel 2021 Euroscape: On the path to global dominance?Philippe Botteri
The European and Israeli cloud ecosystem is accelerating as never before. Back in 2016, Europe and Israel had only four public companies worth less than $9B combined and local cloud companies had raised just $900M throughout 2015. Today, Europe and Israel have generated 23 public companies worth $231B and private cloud financing reached c. $30B. The $900M of SaaS VC funding in 2015 now represents less than Europe's largest financing round, with Celonis raising $1B in June this year. These are just some of the SaaS milestones Europe and Israel have hit over the last year, so now seems like the right time to as: "are Europe and Israel on the path to global SaaS dominace?" Market sentiment in H1 2022 was dictated by inflation and falling public markets, however the core growth-stage tech capital markets remain intact as unprecedented dry powder availability continues to enable deals to get done. Despite the valuation pullback relative to 2020 and 2021, deal volume is still in line or ahead of pre-pandemic levels as the market for quality assets persists.

"Opportunities and Pitfalls in Momentum Investing" by Gary Antonacci, Author ...Quantopian
Presented at QuantCon Singapore 2016, Quantopian's quantitative finance and algorithmic trading conference, November 11th.
Gary will begin by explaining the origins and history of momentum investing. He will show why momentum is called “the premier anomaly.” He will describe the way momentum is most commonly used and why this may not be the best approach. He will discuss the hidden risks associated with momentum and other factor based investments.
Using easily understood examples and historical research findings, he will show how relative strength momentum can enhance investment returns, while trend-following absolute momentum can dramatically decrease risk exposure.
Gary will show which assets are best to use for momentum investing. Finally, he will describe the behavioral biases you must deal with and the mind set you need to become a successful momentum investor.
In this talk you will learn how to:
a) Spot the best momentum investment opportunities in any market environment.
b) Protect yourself from bear market risk exposure and behavioral biases.
c) Construct your own low-cost, rules-based dual momentum portfolio that is simple to understand and easy to maintain.
Dual Momentum Investing by Gary Antonacci QuantCon 2016Quantopian
Gary will begin by reviewing the most common investment vehicles throughout history while explaining their advantages and disadvantages. He will then show how momentum can help accentuate the positives and eliminate the negatives. Using easily understood examples and historical research findings, Gary will show how relative strength momentum can enhance investment return, while trend-following absolute momentum can dramatically decrease bear market exposure. Finally, Gary will show how you can implement and easily maintain your very own dual momentum portfolio using the best assets classes.
Combining the Best Stock Selection Factors by Patrick O'Shaughnessy at QuantC...Quantopian
Patrick will explore how to combine the value factor with other stock selection factors to build a superior stock selection strategy. He will discuss unique ways of using momentum, share buybacks, and quality factors to improve on a simple value screen. He will discuss portfolio concentration, rebalancing, and risk management. Modest but Calm 2014 Ends with Volatility
2014 saw relatively calm markets and fairly positive results for diversified investors. However, pockets of volatility in October and December showed that when U.S. markets get choppy many investors are still easily spooked. This is
an important lesson. Not all years will be like the last few, with their double digit positive returns and below average volatility. Several trends are pointing toward a more uneven 2015.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

■ Commitments to VC as a % of overall stock market has been much
more stable than is commonly appreciated.

How is Performance Measured?
■ Two industry standards:
– Annualized IRR (net of fees).
– Multiple of Invested Capital (MIC).
» Total Value Returned / Invested Capital.
» (Distributed Value + Residual Value) / (Capital in Cos. + Fees)
■ Each has its drawbacks.
9. 9 Steven N. Kaplan
■ Each has its drawbacks:
– Net IRR:
» Absolute (not relative).
■ Does not control for market movements.
» Is sensitive to sequencing of investments.
– Multiple of Invested Capital:
» Absolute (not relative).
■ Does not control for market movements.
How is Performance Measured?
10. 10 Steven N. Kaplan
How is Performance Measured?
■ A 3rd method – KS PME (Public Market Equivalent).
– Grow LP inflows / investments at S&P 500 (or other return).
– Grow LP returns / distributions at S&P 500 (or other return).
– Compare value of outflows to inflows.
– If PME > 1, then LPs did better than S&P 500.
» + Does control for the market.
» + Not sensitive to investment sequence.
■ Think of PME as a market-adjusted multiple.

What will the future hold?
■ Despite all the attention to start-ups / VC, commitments to stock market
value not particularly high relative to historical means.
■ Will probably be higher this year, but nowhere near tech boom.
– Commitments to PE are at historically high levels.
■ Accordingly, still feel better about VC than about PE.
