Ventria Bioscience faced controversy for producing plant-made pharmaceuticals. Stakeholders like environmentalists and farmers opposed Ventria's work due to concerns about contaminating crops and unknown health risks. Ventria's CEO Scott Deeter worked to address these concerns through transparency, addressing risks, and political action. However, their efforts were unsuccessful and expansion was blocked. Ventria now has few options and unhappy investors as it has been unable to expand since starting.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Case #4 Ventria Bioscience and the Controversy over Plant–Made Medicines Sinforosa Business
and Society – BUS 475 Professor Filomena May 17, 2011 1.–Describe the problem facing Scott
Deeter and Ventria. Deeter came to Ventria in April 2002. He was appointed as Ventria's CEO
because of his good reputation as a businessman. As CEO he helped Dr. Raymond Rodriguez sort
through several projects that Ventria was working on at the time. His concept of the business was to
focus on one or two projects to make Ventria a profitable business. 2.–Describe the relevant
stakeholders and for each, state its interests and sources of power. Rice farmers, are more than 2000
businesses owned by families and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5.–Describe what other options Ventria has if it chooses not to engage in dialogue or political action
(or dialogue and political action are unsuccessful). Ventria's political action didn't work because the
secretary of Agriculture ruled in favor of the farmers, millers and the public. Ventria choose to
address the stakeholder's concerns. At this point, Deeter, Ventria's CEO, decided to use protective
equipment for field production, storage, and transportation. They will allow visits to their research
facilities and will keep detailed records of the research. All efforts by Ventria were not satisfactory
to the stakeholders and the efforts to expand where unsuccessful. In biotechnology, things always
seemed to take longer (Lawrence and Weber, 2011). Ventria has a long way to go and investors are
not happy. They have not been able to expand since the company started. References Pamer, M.

3. Scott Deeter And Ventri Ethical Dilemmas
Scott Deeter and Ventria faced many problems over the controversy over plant–made medicines.
There are many regulations that control farmed pharmaceuticals. There is the FDA, GRAS, EPA,
and the USDA that all have requirements that companies such as Ventria must abide by. In addition
to the list of regulations that must be followed, companies must also indirectly make sure the local
rice industry approved of the new techniques. People fear things that they don't understand. They
feared the crops would cross contaminate and pollute the state. They weren't sure of all of the risks,
involved in their industry. According to the text, in the early 2,000's the FDA basically created
standard that was directed toward pharmaceutical crops and food crops ... Show more content on

Of course, it is ideal to want to grow it in natural soil, however, the risk of it polluting the
environment, diseases forming and spreading plus the unknown dangers to the affects on the
community. The stakeholders cannot ignore, the unknown answers to the questions that people have.
Agricultural companies in areas that don't have the best climate, or where the environment isn't
suitable for growth, use innovative habitats such as greenhouses. If I were a Ventria stakeholder, I
would suggest using indoor agricultural methods to grow the products in, so the environment and
the public's health would not be at risk. 4. If Ventria chooses to employ a political action strategy,
how might it go about influencing relevant regulators? Relevant regulators only want answers to the
their unknown questions. Their purpose is to make sure what is being done, is done with tact, and
concern for the majority of the people. Ventria needs to find answers, develop a safe proposal that
would make the government support and believe in their invention. Once they develop the positive
relationship with regulators, their objective should be to focus on the benefits of the product. If a
simple product, that isn't potentially harming the environment; can save lives, regulators may be
influenced to support the product. 5. If Ventria chooses not to engage in dialogue or political action

Date: April 24th, 2017
To: Environmentalists, Regulators, and Future Stakeholders
From: Johnny Spadafore, Student at GMU
Subject: Ventria Bioscience, improving productivity of rice, a crop recognized for its medically
useful proteins, providing benefits to human nutrition worldwide.
Ventria Bioscience Overview
Ventria Bioscience was founded by molecular biologist Dr. Raymond Rodriguez officially in 1993.
Professor Rodriguez began research and experiments in the 1980's in Sacramento, California with
some of his research colleagues and students. He began to develop techniques to extract, enhance
and purify rice by adding proteins (Recombinant DNA technology) and Dr. Rodriguez was later
funded with a large investment from Dr. William Rutter. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ventria has a huge opportunity to create relationships to farmers and consumers in the next years
and to contribute to communities around their farms and especially the government. Ventria should
continue to consider and experiment with different ideas and ways that will not only be approved by
the FDA, but can portray the benefits to environmentalists, food safety activists, consumer
advocates. The company regulations, goals and values allow them to ensure this by following all
rules and regulations and addressing and acknowledging any potential problem in their attempt to
achieve their bioscience organization goals. Scott Deeter does a phenomenal job of this by speaking
for the less fortunate and his passion for his company. Ventria will achieve their long terms company
goals by working closely with all government agencies concerned, especially California Rice
Commission. They will continue to seek stakeholder's investments, continue research studies and
stress to the public and the actual benefits of their rice product through testing. Stakeholders,
Investors, Board members, Government (includes FDA, APHIS, USDA), CRC (CA Rice
Commission), Scientists, and Environmentalists are all groups that have a stake in Ventria's actions.
All have interests and power regarding the plant made medicines and Ventria's decisions. A political
argument might be that government would have the most power, however APHIS has yet to approve

Ventria Bioscience and the Controversy over Plant–Made Medicines
In this paper I am writing on the Ventria Bioscience and the Controversy over Plant–Made
Medicines Case. Ventria Bioscience is a company that is trying to commercialize pharmaceuticals
made from genetically modified plants. While Ventria is gaining opposition from regulators, activist,
and environmentalist; they could succeed if they use their relevant stakeholders and specific
strategies, information, financial incentive, constituency building, to influence regulators.
There are many groups that have a stake in Ventria's action. There are some stakeholders that hold a
lower salience such as, the environmentalist, consumer advocates, and food–safety activist. Which
are, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These stakeholders are standing in the way of Ventria's attempt to solve malnutrition. For the market
stakeholders it begins with Scott Deeter, president and CEO of Ventria Bioscience, he built the
company, analyzing proteins and coming up with ideas. Then you have Dr. Raymond Rodriguez, he
is a molecular biologist that founded Ventria Bioscience. He approached Dr. William Rutter, founder
and chairmen of the biotechnology firm Chiron, to become an investor in the company. As the
company progressed, Dr. Rodriguez built a board of directors of biotech leaders and seasoned
entrepreneurs. This included Dr. William Rutter and Dr. Pablo Venezuela. William H. Rutter, an
attorney and venture capitalist. Ron Vogal, and bio–entrepreneur Dr. Robert Crea. Later recruited to
the board were Thomas N. Urban, Melvin Booth, and David Dwayer. Together these board members
and their organizations provide 85 percent of financing for the company. If these relevant
stakeholders were to have a dialogue, many opinions on how to reestablish the company's protocol
would be said. Specifically, strategies how to get pass the regulation issues and gain the approval of
different advocates. They will need to figure out a way to address their potential risk. Environmental
and consumer groups feel as though Ventria will contaminate other rice crops. If GM crops were to
contaminate other crops, California will be at risk of losing Japanese
