• ‘vasant’ denotes – ‘A name of kamadev’, or ‘month of
chaitra-vaishakha’ or ‘spring season’
• ‘kusumakar’ denotes – ‘garden’, ‘flower garden’, ‘flower
bouquet’ ‘vasant ritu’.

Kharaliya Rasayan type of drug
Bhavana (trituration ) Dravyas of Vasant Kusumakar Ras in the chronological order are Godugdha, Ikshuras, Vasa Patra Swarasa,
Kamal Pushpa, Usheer, Haridra, Kadlikand swarasa.
The grinded mixture of the Bhasma was processed with the liquids in the chronological order given above.
The trituration process was carried out seven times separately with each bhavana Dravya.
the mixture was again re- triturated with juice of Gulab
dried and stored.

Vanga bhasma is especially useful in mutravaha strotodushti and it also improves the strength of indriyas and

Maximum ingredients of vasant kusumakar rasa have madhur rasa, guru-snigdha guna,
shita virya madhur vipaka, tridoshnashaka, rasayana and vajikarana properties.

Thus vasant kusumakar ras is beneficial in the dhatushaithilya, dhatukshya, ojodushti
avastha of diabetic neuropathy and it also prevent dhatuksharan,

Beta-islet cell regeneration, insulin secretion and enhanced transport of blood glucose to

Generally, the short-term use of Vasant Kusumakar Ras does not cause any side effects and no resesach found
regarding that.

Vasant kusumakar ras treatment restored serum lipid profile which was altered in
diabetic rats.
Treatment with vasant kusumakar ras significantly ameliorated the oxidative stress
in eye tissue resulting in decreased lipid peroxidation and increase in endogenous
antioxidant levels.
Levels of aldose reductase and vascular endothelial growth factor in eye tissue were
significantly decreased in vasant kusumakar ras treated rats.
Hematoxylin and eosin staining indicated that the vasant kusumakar ras treatment
significantly restored the normal architecture of the retinal tissue.

VKR (50 mg/kg) for 10 days
Anti-hyperglycemic effect was observed with VKR along with increased levels of plasma
insulin. Renal variables including total proteins and albumin along with GFR were found
to improve biochemically.
However, inflammation observed in kidney was confirmed
by immunostaining metallothionein, which was due to the accumulation of heavy metals.
Furthermore, mercury accumulation in kidney further confirmed by auto metallography,
which activated mononuclear phagocyte system, which generated an immune response.
This was further supported by increase in the extent of apoptosis in kidney tissues.

Points to be noted
 The safety profile of vasant kusumakar ras has not been fully investigated.
 IN vitro assay systems have been developed for testing ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) aspects of candidate drugs, possibility of
employing this technique can be considered.
 There is an urgent need to evolve suitable analytical methods to study and establish- the nanoparticulate character, chemical composition and other related
aspects of rasaushadhies.
 Central repository of all the well known ‘bhasma‘ has to be created preferably involving government agencies so that anybody who wants to obtain reference
material for comparison can do so
 Initiation of detailed toxicity studies to define the toxicity profile of at least all the mineral and metal based single, compound metal and compound Herbo-
mineral preparations based on commonly acceptable protocol
 While evolving standardization procedures at different levels there may be necessity for testing the activity of the intermediary and final products. For this
purpose a simple assay system like zebra fish and zebra fish embryo based in vivo and in vitro tests may be developed.
 Further it is to be clearly understood and appreciated that in comparison to plant based preparation these preparations have higher toxic potential especially if
used in an inappropriate manner hence should be used with caution.

    11.25/ KG For1 month Vasant kusumakar ras treatment restored serum lipid profile which was altered in diabetic rats. Treatment with vasant kusumakar ras significantly ameliorated the oxidative stress in eye tissue resulting in decreased lipid peroxidation and increase in endogenous antioxidant levels. Levels of aldose reductase and vascular endothelial growth factor in eye tissue were significantly decreased in vasant kusumakar ras treated rats. Hematoxylin and eosin staining indicated that the vasant kusumakar ras treatment significantly restored the normal architecture of the retinal tissue.

For this purpose a simple assay system like zebra fish and zebra fish embryo based in vivo and in vitro tests may be developed.  Further it is to be clearly understood and appreciated that in comparison to plant based preparation these preparations have higher toxic potential especially if used in an inappropriate manner hence should be used with caution.
