With the red lioness happily secured in finals
already, the seniors girls made the eek down
the coast to try and beat the undefeated bull
sharks in a uni clash. First quarter pressure
around the contest and swift clearing of the
ball down back saw Greta Bodey and Grace
Brennan link up to secure Greta the first goal
of the match. Pressure down back by Nat
Grider saw numerous of bonds inside 50s go
to waste. The quarter ended with UQ down by
4 points. Good use of the body through the
pack saw Jane Childes hit the target of Luka
Yoshida-Martin, slotting the first goal of the
second quarter. Dominance in the middle by
Maria Moloney and Bre Koenan led to plenty
of scoreboard pressure from our forwards. An
amazing 2 on 1 mark by Lauren Middleton in
the middle saw us score another major from
Marnie McGorm. The end of the second
quarter saw us regain the lead by keeping
bond scoreless, up 51-13 at half time. The first
few minutes of the third quarter saw a quick
goal from Dakota Davidson as well as an
unfortunate loss of ruck Mia Tuebler to a
shoulder injury. Immense pressure around the
contest and down back by Naomi Fitzpatrick
and Issy Hartog meant another inside 50 for
UQ and another goal on the scoreboard.
A phrase used often by the commentators
saw Greta “dance through the contest” linking
with Grace sneaking another through the
goals. The end of the third quarter saw our
lead increase, up 77-19. The first 5 minutes of
the last quarter saw the ball in bonds forward
50 but our pressure once again proved to
much. Link ups and foot races down the field
led to another goal for UQ. Pressure from
Sacha Rival-Quinn and an inside 50 kick
meant a 3 on 1 for Rachel Vetter but she kept
her feet at the contest and secured the goal.
With 4 minutes to go Greta kicked her 5th
sausage roll. The final siren sounded,
meaning a great win against the undefeated
bull sharks, 96-31. The lionesses look forward
to a big week ahead on the training track and
a semi final back at the same venue against
the same team with hopefully the same result
next weekend.

Round 14 saw the Ressies girls on a
drive down the M1 on a Saturday night
to Bond University. The match up saw
a stacked Bond team putting the UQ
gals under the pump from the get go
in the final game of the regular season.
The first half was an arm wrestle with
our midfield consisting of Roxanna
Muschler, Hannah Curran and Philly
Stephens putting in the hard yards to
get control in the engine room.
Intercept marks from Jess Stallard
kept the ball from entering their
forward 50 too much, however bonds
linkages proved too smooth and we
were down 20-0 at half time.
Half time chat from Rob Wiggans
(Happy birthday Rob) consisted of
looking to play more laterally and
being composed with the ball in hand.
In typical Ressie’s fashion, we
generally put our best efforts in the
second half.
SHARKS BITE AT NIGHT
The third quarter saw some sensational
runs from Jules Dawson to get more
linkages to our wide midfielder, Lizzie
Weigh and Lilly Quinlan. A spectacular
chase down run from Amy Suthers late
in the fourth quarter displayed true
UQ spirit. Unfortunately, we were
unable to capitalise on the scoreboard
in the second half; however overall
team pressure and hunger for the ball
saw UQ keep the final score to 36-0.
Despite the loss, the girls should be
proud of their tenacity with first,
second and third individual efforts
that each player showed. With the
focus now towards finals, the gals look
to bring that hunger and “dangerous”
footy when coming up against
Coorparoo in the semi’s.

The Friday night boys kept the dream
alive against the Beenleigh Buffalos
with a resounding 70 point win.
With the Coach on a mid-season
break, it was up to a few of the old
heads to manage the boys in his
absence!
With a couple of late outs, it paved
the way for ‘The Big Cheese’ (James
Grigson) to make his debut, and he
didn’t disappoint with spear tackles
that surely left a few of the Buffalos
players searching for their kidneys
afterwards.
The boys posted a first-quarter lead
that allowed them to play with some
freedom! Thanks to this, our power
forward Nate Cutcliffe started to find
his rhythm and ended the match with
9 goals and a Best on Ground
performance.
Andy Luck chipped in with a couple
of early snags too which gave us a
half-time lead of 39 points.
Showing our intent, we built this into
a 63 point difference by the third-
quarter break thanks to the engine
room of Wills, Sully, Olly F and Alex
continuing to hum along and provide
a classy finish to the game.
The Buffalos did squeeze in a couple
of late goals to keep the margin to 70
at the final siren, but Round 9 gave
the boys an opportunity to ply their
craft ready for a couple of tough
weeks coming up. The boys are at
home next week against a challenging
outfit, the Marcellin Old Collegians.

Congratulations to one of our Lionesses
Stephanie O'Brien who has been invited to

Making up one of 10 Queensland

impressive as she juggles footy with her
successful Netball career with the USQ Jets.
Best of luck in the combine Steph!
