Post-Impressionism refers to a loose group of artists in the late 19th century who were influenced by Impressionism but developed their own unique styles. These artists, including Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, and Georges Seurat, experimented with techniques like pointillism, distortion of color and form, and symbolic content to convey emotion. Their works moved beyond Impressionism to focus more on design and emotion, laying the foundations for 20th century modern art movements like Cubism and Expressionism.
Post-Impressionism grew out of Impressionism and focused on light, color, composition, and design. Georges Seurat developed pointillism, applying tiny dots of pure color that blend in the eye of the viewer, such as in his painting A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec often depicted dancers and circus performers in paintings and posters that advertised their skills, making the Moulin Rouge famous. Vincent Van Gogh struggled with depression but created iconic works like The Starry Night despite selling only one painting during his lifetime.

Key artists and works mentioned include Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Seurat, Gauguin, Munch, Courbet, Hiroshige, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Cassatt. Major themes covered include the influence of new technologies like photography, urbanization, and cross-cultural influences between Western and Japanese art.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir was a famous French artist born in 1841 who was a leading painter in developing the Impressionist style of painting. He came from a working class family and began working in a factory decorating fine china at age 13. He later studied art in Paris where he met other Impressionist painters. Renoir became known for his bright, colorful paintings often depicting happy scenes of everyday life like families, children at the beach, and dancers, usually in bright sunlight. His works remain very popular today and are displayed in art museums worldwide.
Georges Braque was a major 20th century French painter and sculptor who co-founded Cubism along with Pablo Picasso between 1908-1914. He developed Cubist techniques including reducing forms to geometric shapes and experimenting with collage and papier collé. Braque's Cubist works with Picasso accelerated the movement's development until Braque served in WWI, after which he developed a more personal colorful style while still focusing on structure. Braque was instrumental in the invention and advancement of Cubism.
This document provides information about Van Gogh's painting "The Vessenots in Auvers". It notes that Van Gogh painted this scene near the city of Auvers during the last two months of his life. The document also provides biographical details about Van Gogh, including that he was born in the Netherlands, moved to Auvers-sur-Oise near Paris, cut off part of his ear, and died in Auvers-sur-Oise at the age of 37. Additionally, it mentions that some of Van Gogh's paintings have sold for record-breaking prices at auction.
Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter born in 1853 who devoted his life to art starting in the 1870s. He was influenced by the impressionists and post-impressionists during his time in Paris in the 1880s. Van Gogh struggled with mental health issues throughout his life and died by suicide in 1890 at the age of 37. His paintings were characterized by expressive brushstrokes, swirling colors, and emotion, as seen in his most famous works Starry Night and Sunflowers.

Van Gogh was born in 1853 in Holland and lived primarily in France, where he was inspired by the works of Millet and Impressionist artists. He had a close relationship with his brother Theo, who supported his painting career. Van Gogh struggled with mental illness and addiction, and his innovative Post-Impressionist style with expressive brushwork and bright colors influenced many later artists. He is best known for works like Starry Night and Sunflowers.
Van Gogh was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter known for his emotional use of color and style that influenced modern art. He had a difficult life, struggling with mental illness. After working as an art dealer in his youth and traveling extensively, he dedicated himself to painting in the 1880s. Though he sold only one painting during his lifetime, he is now considered one of the greatest painters in history and a key figure in Post-Impressionism.
Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) was a famous French painter and sculptor. He was born in Le Havre and studied painting in Paris. Dubuffet is known for using unusual textures in his work, often painting with materials like sand, tar, and straw. He also limited himself to using red, white, black, and blue in some pieces. Later in his career, Dubuffet turned more to sculpture, creating polystyrene works that he painted with vinyl paint.

You can see the future first in San Francisco.
Over the past year, the talk of the town has shifted from $10 billion compute clusters to $100 billion clusters to trillion-dollar clusters. Every six months another zero is added to the boardroom plans. Behind the scenes, there’s a fierce scramble to secure every power contract still available for the rest of the decade, every voltage transformer that can possibly be procured. American big business is gearing up to pour trillions of dollars into a long-unseen mobilization of American industrial might. By the end of the decade, American electricity production will have grown tens of percent; from the shale fields of Pennsylvania to the solar farms of Nevada, hundreds of millions of GPUs will hum.
The AGI race has begun. We are building machines that can think and reason. By 2025/26, these machines will outpace college graduates. By the end of the decade, they will be smarter than you or I; we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word. Along the way, national security forces not seen in half a century will be un-leashed, and before long, The Project will be on. If we’re lucky, we’ll be in an all-out race with the CCP; if we’re unlucky, an all-out war.
Everyone is now talking about AI, but few have the faintest glimmer of what is about to hit them. Nvidia analysts still think 2024 might be close to the peak. Mainstream pundits are stuck on the wilful blindness of “it’s just predicting the next word”. They see only hype and business-as-usual; at most they entertain another internet-scale technological change.
Before long, the world will wake up. But right now, there are perhaps a few hundred people, most of them in San Francisco and the AI labs, that have situational awareness. Through whatever peculiar forces of fate, I have found myself amongst them. A few years ago, these people were derided as crazy—but they trusted the trendlines, which allowed them to correctly predict the AI advances of the past few years. Whether these people are also right about the next few years remains to be seen. But these are very smart people—the smartest people I have ever met—and they are the ones building this technology. Perhaps they will be an odd footnote in history, or perhaps they will go down in history like Szilard and Oppenheimer and Teller. If they are seeing the future even close to correctly, we are in for a wild ride.
Let me tell you what we see.

1. Van Gogh’s
Colors
How They Changed Over
the Years
There was a total of 1928
works of art in this dataset,
