Valerie Adams is a shot putter from New Zealand who holds world records in the shot put. She has won Olympic gold in 2008 and world championship gold in 2007, 2009, and 2011. Adams has also won Commonwealth Games gold in 2006 and 2010, setting games records both times. She is considered one of the greatest female shot putters of all time.

• Valerie Kasanita Adams (formerly known as Valerie
Vili), was born October 6th 1984. She is a shot putter
for New Zealand.
• Valerie was born in Rotorua, New Zealand, to her
Tongan mother ,Lilika Ngauamo ,and an English
father ,Sydney Adams. She married a discus thrower
from New Caledonia, Bertrand Vili, but divorced him
early in 2010.
3. Her Achievements
• She is the women's Olympic champion and three-time
World champion, two-time Commonwealth and World
Indoor champion.
• She holds the New Zealand, Oceanian, Commonwealth and
equal World Championship records with a personal best
throw of 21.24m.
• Adams first came to be important when winning the World
Youth Championships in 2001, with a throw of 16.87 m.
• In 2002 she became World Junior champion, throwing a
17.73 m
4. Commonwealth Games
• In the 2002 commonwealth Games she won a
silver medal with 17.45 m throw.
• At the 2006 Commonwealth Games the athlete
won the gold medal, breaking the Commonwealth
Games record of 19.00 m with a throw of 19.66 m
• She also competed at the Commonwealth Games
in New Delhi, where she set a Games record mark
of 20.47 m to retain her
• She qualified so Adams led the field with a throw
of 19.45 m. Adams held second place throughout
the final, but in the last round with a mammoth
throw and Commonwealth record of 20.54 m to
take the gold.
5. Olympic Games
• . At the Beijing Olympics, she qualified for the final
with the longest distance thrown, 19.73 meters, on
her first attempt. Then won the gold with a throw of
20.56 m, a personal best.
• Adams is one of few female athletes ever to take IAAF
World Titles at youth, junior and senior level.
6. World Championship
• In 2007, Adams went to the Osaka World Championships as a
thought to take a medal due to her being one of three women
able to throw over 20 m before the championships.
• She won a bronze medal at the World Championships with a
personal best throw of 19.87 m.
• Adams won the 2011 World Championships equalling the
championship record 21.24 met by Natalya Lisovskaya in 1987.
• In August, Adams won at the 2009 World Championships in
Athletics in Berlin with a throw of 20.44 meters.
• At the age of 18 finished fifth at the 2003 World Championships.
7. Continental Cup
• In 2008 she broke the Oceania record and won her
first World Indoor Title in Valencia with 20.19 m.
• At the 2009 Grande Prêmio Rio in Brazil, Adams won
the competition with a new personal best and
Oceanian area record of 20.69 m.
• Later, she won the 2010 IAAF Continental Cup with a
season's best mark of 20.85 m
8. Indoor Championship and World

• At the 2012 World Indoor Championships Adams
won the competition with a throw of 20.54 m, a new
indoors personal best.
• Then went on to finish second at the World Athletics
Final.
