This document presents a study on using a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to control load frequency in a two-area interconnected power system. Conventional control methods like integral and PID controllers were unable to adequately control oscillations due to their slow response. The document proposes incorporating a BESS model that can provide fast active power compensation. Simulation results showed that using BESS, load frequency oscillations settled within 0.5-1 seconds after a disturbance, much faster than conventional controllers. This demonstrates that BESS is an effective technique for load frequency control in power systems.
