DELIVERING COMPLIANCE
FOR REACH & ROHS
Wipro enabled the client to become RoHS and Reach
compliant for 70% of their products

INDUSTRY LANDSCAPE
Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) and Restriction of Hazardous
Substances (RoHS) are European Union directives whose aim is to improve the protection of
human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic
properties of chemical substances, and restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the
manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. To comply with REACH,
manufacturers must capture additional chemical data, such as physical and chemical properties and
toxicological and ecotoxicological information, and provide it to the European Chemicals
Agency (ECHA).

                                                                                                       Wipro devised an integrated

As part of this activity, we analyzed the Bill of Material (BOM), 3D CAD
data, and MCAD/ECAD drawings. For every component in the system,
Wipro team has a set procedure and process for establishing contact
with the vendors and gathering the RoHS compliance certifications or
documenting the non-compliance. In case of non-compliance, we
identify an alternate drop in.

In case this is also not feasible, a replacement with minimal design
impact is selected. Based on the overall program goals (like minimizing
risk or cost reduction where applicable), the design team makes the
appropriate choice. Post approvals from the customer engineering
team, the compliance certificates, alternate part numbers, data sheets,
and all relevant information is uploaded into the component database
management system maintained by the customer team.
