Flashcards
Using Flashcards
Size: According to the type of grouping and the activity.
Meaning: The picture must be clear.
Types: Depends on the age and ability of the group.
   •Only illustrations.
   •Only words.
   •Both illustrations and words.
Sources: Drawings, magazines or… the internet.
• Show and say.
Use different techniques to present and revise vocabulary.
• Odd one out.
Students have to identify the flashcard that doesn’t belong
 to the set.
• What’s missing?
Present a set of flashcards on the board. Ask the students
to close their eyes and quickly remove one of them. They
have to guess which one is missing.
• Slowly, slowly…
The flashcard is completely covered and the students have
to guess whilst the teacher slowly uncovers it.
• Memory game.
Place the cards facing down on a table. Players choose
two cards and if they make a pair (word and picture) they
 keep them.
•True or false?
Show the flashcard and say a statement. Students have
to say “true or false”. Encourage them to correct the false
one.

•Flashcard whispers.
Divide the class into two groups. Play Chinese Whispers
showing a flashcard to the first pupil. The last one runs to
write the message on the board.
