URBAN DESIGN
Introduction:
Urban design Is the art of making successful places for people. Serve as a tool, which involve on
realizing ideal and theoretical strategies and needs to fulfill the gap between planning (comprehensive
view) and architectural (detail view)
A key component of the built environment is the transport system that serves the land uses contained
within the urban fabric, whether they are residential, commercial, educational or other. The road hierarchy
has been used as a tool to assist in planning the interface between land use and the road system, and the
appropriate linkage of roadways in the road system.
Objectives
● To Analysis existing situation of the site
● To identify the gap of the previous structure plan of the site,
● To identifying the existing spatial problem and recommend a solution
● To develop vision, objective, and strategy
● To provide planning solution based on the finding
Scope of the Work
The aim of the study is to preparing special environment for the community and identifying the
problems of the site. The total area of the project site is about 16.7 hectares within the boundary of the
city.
The scope of this spatial study focused on: -
● Analysis of road network
● Analysis of Existing land use and their compatibility
● Analysis of the distribution of Existing social service
● Developing strategy
● Street network proposal
● Land use proposal and implementation strategy
● Implementation regulation and guideline provision
Location map
Existing Base map
It has a latitude and longitude of 5°35′N 38°15′E and an altitude of 1716 meters
above sea level. The topographic analysis of the area telecommunication to better
understand the city’s geography
The site is surrounded by a number of other businesses, including a grocery store, a
bank, café, retail market, residence, service and administration office. The area is also
home to a number of residential buildings.
The streets in the area are narrow and winding, making it difficult to navigate
SLOPE

SLOPE

The site has relatively low slope as compared to other sites. The
overall slope is ranges from 0-2 % to 20% slope.
Existing Land Use
The site is mainly consisting of areas with different
variety of characters which starts from little active
residence to very high active centers.
As the site was a proposed to mixed use and residence
before, the site is still dominated by commercial
activities and different activities.
Problems:
 Un proper settlement
 Densely populated area
 Created boring zone
Lack of variety vegetation
Existing road network map
In this section we observed the road problems that makes the town
boring:
 In fig 1 there is vast area that give improper function
 In fig 2 the area that locate in front of the Karim mosque gets
more trafficking due to size of road it is too small
 Fig 3 illustrates the inner roads are muddy and uncomfortable to
access.
In all these 3 figs (4,5,6) we try to show that we have
seen some disturbance because of improper station of
Bajaj tera, movement of Gary in main road these all
result is consequence of lack of proper parking area.
The main road gets dangerous activity like
pouring water, park heavy vehicles
The arterial street and sub arterial roads
constructed with cobblestone but it covered with
dust and soil There is no accessible pedestrian
road in main road
There is disturbance activity
Noise
LEGEND
High Noise
Medium Noise
Low noise
Problems:
 Vast area awasted
 Lack of pavement
 Improper construction
 Disturbance
 Lack of proper parking area
 High trafficking
6. Existing street light, electricity pole and
transformer distribution
-street light found beside the road and nearly located in
arterial road.
-The rest of the roads doesn’t have street light. Because of
this most of our site doesn’t get light during at night and it
reduce movement of people around the site. It may put that
threat in the resident of the site
EXISTING CONTOUR MAP
We try to show the contour site section to illustrate where the
sloppy area is high and low and what material exist in the site.
In section A-A Less slop than section B-B, section A-A show
the slop area around main road
Section B-B show the slop area exist from main road to
university road.
Problems: in section B-B flooding is major challenge to the site
:in section A-A the slop area cause accident it is hard
to control speedy vehicles.
SWOTANALYSIS
STRENGTH
- The site is composed of active edges of commercial zones
- Active local street
- There are green plantations which can be used as input for
the proposed design
- The presence of active commercial front edge along the main
street
- There is a street light along the main street.
WEAKNESS
- Less road hierarchy & poor road pattern
- There is no proper drainage
- Most of the building are in very poor condition.
- Less parking spaces
- Poor local street condition & pavement.
- There is no trash can and street furniture
- Accessibility difficulties for disabled
OPPORTUNITY
- Useful vegetation
THREAT
High pouring water
