Updated federal advice on mercury levels in fish appears to have stalled within the U.S. department of health, frustrating scientists and advocacy groups who argue that exposure to mercury may be dangerous at lower levels than previously thought.
Government guidelines recommend that certain at-risk groups take daily vitamin D supplements, but a recent study found that 74% of parents and over half of healthcare professionals are unaware of these recommendations. Vitamin D deficiency is a major problem in the UK, with a quarter of toddlers lacking vitamin D and some children experiencing issues like rickets, muscle weakness, and delayed walking. The Chief Medical Officer will contact doctors and midwives to raise awareness of vitamin D deficiency and the need to prescribe supplements to at-risk groups like pregnant women and young children.

India first south asian country to ban cosmetics testing on animalsWorld Truth
India has become the first country in South Asia to ban cosmetics testing on animals. The Bureau of Indian Standards has approved removing any mention of animal tests from its cosmetics standard, making non-animal alternative tests mandatory instead of invasive animal tests. This landmark ban was achieved through campaigning by Humane Society International's Be Cruelty-Free India campaign and support from Indian politicians. However, more work remains, as imported cosmetics that were tested on animals abroad can still be sold in India.
Americans consume an average of 160 bowls of cereal each year, one of the most popular breakfasts around. Especially for kids, cereal is quick and easy, and can be had in any way. With or without milk, in a bowl for breakfast or as a snack, lunch or dinner. The popularity of cereal for kids and cost effectiveness for parents makes it an easy sale for the larger companies.
It has become a relatively well-known fact that boxed cereal is not the healthiest way to start your morning, to say the least. The preservatives, artificial colors, flavors and gluten content included in most brands leave them lacking the nutritional punch and energy boost that they advertise.

This document summarizes the risks of mercury toxicity from fish consumption, particularly for pregnant women and children. It reviews the pathways of mercury exposure and absorption in humans, sources of methylmercury in fish, and studies investigating neurological effects in children from prenatal mercury exposure. While some studies found adverse effects, others did not, and there is no scientific consensus on a safe level of intake. The document discusses establishing fish advisories in Hawaii to promote limiting consumption of species higher in mercury while maintaining the health benefits of eating fish.
The document examines the World Health Organization's (WHO) endorsement of food irradiation, finding that the WHO abandoned its original research agenda on irradiation safety and ceded authority to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), whose mission is to promote nuclear technology rather than public health, influencing the WHO's determination that irradiated food is safe for human consumption without sufficient independent review.
Health Safety Of Plastics Used For Food And Drinking Water Packaging Bisphenol AChristina Parmionova
This document summarizes research on bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical used to make hard plastics and epoxy resins that is found in many food and drink packaging products. It notes that exposure to BPA is widespread, especially among infants and children, but the health effects of long-term, low-level exposure are still unclear. While some animal studies suggest potential neurological or behavioral effects, more research is needed. Federal regulators currently believe exposure levels from food packaging are safe, but some retailers have removed BPA-containing baby bottles from stores due to health concerns. The document provides additional sources for information on BPA regulations, studies and alternatives to products containing it.

There is one area of diabetes treatment and prevention that’s largely overlooked by mainstream medicine which involves environmental toxins known as “diabetogens”, foreign chemicals that disrupt the ability of hormone insulin in several ways. Download Dr. Stengler's Report for more details.
This document discusses how environmental toxins known as "diabetogens" can disrupt insulin function and lead to higher blood sugar levels and diabetes. Several toxins are linked to diabetes risk, including heavy metals like mercury, arsenic and lead. The chemical BPA, found in many plastic and canned food products, has also been shown to cause insulin resistance and pancreatic issues in studies. Reducing exposure to these toxins through detoxification can help lower blood glucose levels and reduce diabetes risk or medication needs.

This document discusses the relationship between dioxins, PCBs, and endometriosis. It notes that incidence of endometriosis has been rising dramatically in recent decades and that dioxin exposure has been shown to increase incidence and severity of endometriosis in animal studies. Dioxins and PCBs are environmental contaminants that bioaccumulate in the food chain and disrupt hormone function and immune systems, which may contribute to the development and progression of endometriosis. The document examines various ways that dioxin and PCB exposure can influence endometrial tissue and hormone regulation in a manner that promotes endometriosis.
The chemotherapy drugs that are used to treat cancer patients can themselves cause cancer in health care workers who handle them. A 2004 alert from NIOSH warned of this risk but more study is still needed. A proposed study of health care worker exposures has been delayed after the OMB raised questions about the study design twice. Proponents say the study is important to better understand the risks to workers from exposure to chemo drugs through inhalation, skin contact, or contact with contaminated surfaces and waste. Many countries in Europe have done more to control exposures and reduce risks to health care workers compared to the US.

Popular “wonder drugs” may cause cancerWorld Truth
The New York Times hailed them as “wonder drugs.” Doctors use them as the first line of defense against heart attack, stroke, inflammation and whatever else they can make sound dreadful and scary. Despite the spin, cholesterol lowering drugs (fibrates and statins) are proving to be not so wonderful. As outlined in the book, Over-The-Counter Natural Cures, by Shane Ellison, MS continuing research showed how these blockbusters failed to prevent heart attack and stroke to any clinical significance. But that’s not the worst part. There’s seems to be a “little” problem with cancer.
Popular “wonder drugs” may cause cancerWorld Truth
Popular cholesterol-lowering drugs like statins and fibrates that were once hailed as "wonder drugs" have been shown to potentially cause cancer in both rodent studies and some human studies. Research has found that these drugs cause cancer in rodents at equivalent human doses, and some clinical trials have found higher cancer rates among those taking pravastatin and a significant increased risk of breast cancer among women taking pravastatin. One mechanism identified is that statins mimic a substance that promotes cancer growth and spread. However, the drug companies only fund short-term studies of 5 years or less, which is not enough time to detect cancer risks, allowing this risk to go unnoticed by the mainstream.

Studies in rodents found these drugs caused cancer at equivalent human doses, however this risk is downplayed in drug references. Some experts have raised concerns that these drugs should be considered potential human carcinogens given the risks. While the link to cancer in humans is uncertain, some studies have shown increased cancer diagnoses and higher breast cancer risks among those taking cholesterol-lowering drugs. One mechanism identified is that statins can mimic a substance involved in tumor growth and spread. However, the cancer risks may remain obscured as drug trials are typically only 5

1) The mainstream media selectively reports on tragic events like the Trayvon Martin shooting based on what will garner the most attention, rather than addressing more numerous but less covered tragedies.
2) Television has a powerful influence over society, with the average American watching over 4 hours per day. Prolonged TV watching is linked to negative health effects, desensitization to violence, and less time spent on other meaningful activities.
3) The mainstream media uses techniques like dividing people into "us vs. them" to stoke fear and prevent meaningful discussions about issues like war, violence, and their underlying causes. This shapes public views and priorities in ways that maintain the status quo.

Your tap water is probably laced with antidepressantsWorld Truth
The idea that we’re being unwittingly drugged when we drink a glass of ordinary tap water smacks of dystopian science fiction or political conspiracy theory. Accusations that Communists were spiking America’s water with sedatives—under the cover of the federally instituted fluoridation program—were such a staple of Cold War–era paranoia that Stanley Kubrick satirized it in his 1964 masterpiece, Dr. Strangelove. While such fear-mongering may seem quaint, what’s truly ironic is that Americans today are consuming prescription drugs—including addictive psychoactive ones—via the water supply. Who knew?
There’s a good chance that if you live in an urban area, your tap water is laced with tiny amounts of antidepressants (mostly SSRIs like Prozac and Effexor), benzodiazepines (like Klonopin, used to reduce symptoms of substance withdrawal) and anticonvulsants (like Topomax, used to treat addiction to alcohol, nicotine, food and even cocaine and crystal meth). Such are the implications of environmental studies that have been leaking out over the past decade.
Alarming new study of monsanto feed on pigsWorld Truth
UK Environment officials praise GMO crops as ‘safer than conventional’ ones, but a recent study reveals more sobering evidence that the world urgently needs to ask fundamental safety questions about genetic engineering of the human food chain.
The first long term study of the effects on inner organs from a diet of Monsanto GMO maize and GMO soya has just been released. The results are shocking and validate the September 2012 long-term study by Prof. Gilles-Eric Seralini of the effects on rats of a diet of GMO Maize.

There is less faith now in the public education system than there ever has been. Homeschooling has increased by 75 percent in the last 14 years, according to a recent report in Education News. Homeschooling is growing seven times faster than a K-12 public education. Researchers predict that the homeschooling boom will continue to explode over the next 10 years, as parents seek to provide their son/daughter with a better education, one that is less controlling and less controlled.
Domino’s uses a drone to deliver a pizzaWorld Truth
The traditional pizza delivery boy could soon be a thing of the past if a revolutionary new plan by Domino's comes to fruition.
The popular chain has teamed up with an advertising agency to build a drone which is capable of delivering pizzas to its customers by flying them through the air.
The 'Domicopter' bypasses crowded streets to reach its target within minutes - and still keeps its cargo piping hot on arrival.
Domino's recently approached digital agency T + Biscuits to help it come up with an attention-grabbing new way of delivering its signature pizzas.
The agency decided to look into adapting a drone which could bear the weight of two pizzas and transport them around 100m above the ground.
30 people infected with hepatitis a after frozen berry mix from costco sparks...World Truth
Thirty people across five states have been infected with Hepatitis A linked to an organic frozen berry mix sold at Costco, with nine people being hospitalized. Health officials are concerned about additional cases spreading from cafes and restaurants serving smoothies or drinks with the contaminated mix. An investigation traced the illnesses to Townsend Farms Organic Anti-Oxidant Blend containing pomegranate seeds from Turkey, which was the source of the outbreak.
This document summarizes concerns about the agricultural biotechnology corporation Monsanto. It discusses how Monsanto produces many pesticides and genetically engineered seeds used globally. It also details how a mother organized a "March Against Monsanto" to protest Monsanto's products and influence. The document then provides five reasons for concern about Monsanto: 1) Monsanto started as a chemical company responsible for damaging toxins and helped produce Agent Orange; 2) Monsanto is building a monopoly in seeds which puts farmers out of work; 3) Monsanto seeks to privatize and control water supplies; 4) Former Monsanto executives influence the FDA which is supposed to ensure food safety; 5) Monsanto has ongoing environmental impacts such as pollution and links to
Are you looking for a long-lasting solution to your missing tooth?
Dental implants are the most common type of method for replacing the missing tooth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants are surgically placed in the jawbone. In layman’s terms, a dental implant is similar to the natural root of the tooth. It offers a stable foundation for the artificial tooth giving it the look, feel, and function similar to the natural tooth.

Breast cancer: Post menopausal endocrine therapyDr. Sumit KUMAR
Breast cancer in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) status is a common and complex condition that necessitates a multifaceted approach to management. HR+ breast cancer means that the cancer cells grow in response to hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. This subtype is prevalent among postmenopausal women and typically exhibits a more indolent course compared to other forms of breast cancer, which allows for a variety of treatment options.
Diagnosis and Staging
The diagnosis of HR+ breast cancer begins with clinical evaluation, imaging, and biopsy. Imaging modalities such as mammography, ultrasound, and MRI help in assessing the extent of the disease. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample confirm the diagnosis and hormone receptor status by identifying the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) on the tumor cells.
Staging involves determining the size of the tumor (T), the involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence of distant metastasis (M). The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is commonly used. Accurate staging is critical as it guides treatment decisions.
Treatment Options
Endocrine Therapy
Endocrine therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for HR+ breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The primary goal is to reduce the levels of estrogen or block its effects on cancer cells. Commonly used agents include:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs): Tamoxifen is a SERM that binds to estrogen receptors, blocking estrogen from stimulating breast cancer cells. It is effective but may have side effects such as increased risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolic events.
Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs): These drugs, including anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane, lower estrogen levels by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogen in peripheral tissues. AIs are generally preferred in postmenopausal women due to their efficacy and safety profile compared to tamoxifen.
Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulators (SERDs): Fulvestrant is a SERD that degrades estrogen receptors and is used in cases where resistance to other endocrine therapies develops.
Combination Therapies
Combining endocrine therapy with other treatments enhances efficacy. Examples include:
Endocrine Therapy with CDK4/6 Inhibitors: Palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are CDK4/6 inhibitors that, when combined with endocrine therapy, significantly improve progression-free survival in advanced HR+ breast cancer.
Endocrine Therapy with mTOR Inhibitors: Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be added to endocrine therapy for patients who have developed resistance to aromatase inhibitors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is generally reserved for patients with high-risk features, such as large tumor size, high-grade histology, or extensive lymph node involvement. Regimens often include anthracyclines and taxanes.

Updated Mercury In Fish Advice Stalled In Health Department, Frustrating Scientists
1. Updated Mercury In Fish Advice Stalled In Health
Department, Frustrating Scientists
2. Updated federal advice on mercury levels in fish appears to have stalled within
the U.S. department of health, frustrating scientists and advocacy groups who
argue that exposure to mercury may be dangerous at lower levels than previously
thought.
The government last revised its mercury guidance in 2004 when it said young
children, pregnant women, nursing mothers and women who might become
pregnant should eat seafood but avoid shark, swordfish, king mackerel and
tilefish, which contain relatively high levels of mercury.
It recommended that this population eat up to 12 ounces a week of fish and
shellfish that are lower in mercury, such as shrimp, salmon, pollock and catfish.
These recommendations were by and large incorporated into dietary guidelines
adopted by the health and agriculture departments in 2010.
Yet the 2004 advisory was based on studies conducted 20 years ago or more, and
some say the results of those studies are out of date.
"Research carried out in the past decade has both clarified the beneficial
nutritional effects of fish consumption during pregnancy and found adverse
effects of prenatal methylmercury exposure at very low doses, at least an order
3. of magnitude below exposures known to be harmful when the current Advisory
was written," a group of 40 or so scientists and environmental advocacy groups
wrote in a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius last
month.
4. The scientists said they understood, from discussions with government officials,
that the Food and Drug Administration and Environmental Protection Agency have
jointly crafted an updated advisory but that the draft has stalled within the health
department.
Both the FDA and the Department of Health and Human Services, of which the FDA
is part, said the advisory is still under review but declined to indicate how far
along it is in the process or when it might be released for public comment. The
EPA referred questions to HHS.
"FDA and EPA are actively engaged in updating our advice, taking into account new
science and data that has emerged since the 2004 advice published," an FDA
spokeswoman, Theresa Eisenman, said in a statement.
The recent letter follows a similar request last July to President Barack Obama
from a group of 22 U.S. senators who urged the FDA to release the updated
advisory.
In September, Sebelius responded to the senators, saying that completing the
updated advisory remained a priority, but she gave no details as to when the
advisory might be released.
5. The FDA's 2004 advisory said that for most people, there is little danger from
eating fish but that "some fish and shellfish contain higher levels of mercury that
may harm an unborn baby or young child's developing nervous system."
As a U.S. senator, Obama worked to prevent the release of surplus U.S. mercury
into global commerce.
He introduced a bill with Alaska Republican Lisa Murkowski to prohibit the transfer
of elemental mercury by federal agencies and to ban U.S. exports of mercury by
2013. The Mercury Export Ban Act of 2008 was signed into law by President
George W. Bush.
The National Fisheries Institute, which represents seafood producers,
wholesalers, retailers and trade groups, did not immediately respond to telephone
and emailed requests for comment, but on May 6 it announced it had created a
new website "to correct dangerous misinformation about seafood and mercury."
"A space dedicated to debunking mercury myths is desperately needed because
for years, activists have willfully fed an often lazy, unsuspecting and sympathetic
media groundless warnings about eating fish," the organization's vice president,
Mary Anne Hansan, said in the announcement.
6. The scientists who signed the letter to Sebelius want the government to give more
detailed, and more nuanced, advice as to the risks and benefits associated with
eating fish.
According to food safety consultant Edward Groth III, who was a signatory to the
letter and published a 2012 report suggesting that the 2004 advisory is no longer
adequate for protecting public health, said he expects the FDA's draft, based on
discussions with its authors, to give consumers a much broader range of fish to
choose from and more data to inform their decisions.
"All in all, the updated advisory seems like a significant improvement in both the
quantity and quality of information for consumers on this topic, and it is really
important that it move forward."
While a list of mercury concentrations in individual fish is listed in tables on the
FDA's website, health advocates want to see the information presented in a way
that the public can easily understand. In her letter to the senators last year,
Sebelius said the health department is working on that too.
The FDA and EPA, she said, are working to craft supplemental materials "that will
provide additional, plain language insights to consumers about fish consumption
during pregnancy."
