This perennial favorite breakout session is back! This is the best opportunity to meet some of the federal government data experts who champion action in improving public access to information to catalyze innovation. Come learn how to use assets from the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), the Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and more. Each agency in the federal government is staffed by experts who are well versed in the information resources available from their division on data.gov (administrative data, survey data, research data, medical/scientific content, etc.) The Datalab will also feature opportunities for one-on-one meet-ups with data experts for “deep dives” into agency’s resources. Participants can join live demonstrations and check out new data resources and tools. The goal of the session is to give innovators and entrepreneurs an overview of new, updated, and emerging datasets that can be used to support new applications and services.

Effects of Metropolitan Land Use on Water Quality in Zing Local Government Ar...
The aim of this study is to determine the effects of Zing metropolitan land use on Zing River water quality in Taraba State, Nigeria. Water samples were collected from three sample points and analyzed to determine the level of pollution of water in the River. Parameters such as temperature, pH, turbidity, TDS, Nitrate, Nitrite, phosphate, chloride, fluoride, iron, zinc and E- Coli, were considered. Water samples were purposively and carefully select and collected to ensure that the samples were upstream, within and downstream of the land use types respectively. The study adopted descriptive statistics. Result showed that the major sources of pollution in Zing Rivers are agricultural run-off, run-off from urban center, local craft industrial effluents and discharges from commercial and residential houses. This may lead to water borne/Water related diseases in the study area. The finding showed that the variety and level of pollution in Zing River is related to the size of population and land use activities going on at various parts of the metropolis from where it receives run-off and pollutants.

Answering your patrons’ health questions can be daunting. It requires expertise and being able to break through literacy and language barriers. However, as the past two years have shown us, libraries’ involvement in health education has never been more important than it is today. As a Catalysts for Community Health Fellows through the Institute of Museum and Library Services and The University of Missouri-Columbia, we’ve spent the last two years developing knowledge of community health resources for Nebraska public libraries and researching ways to support public library staff with health reference and education to their communities.
With the guidance of Region 3 of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, we’ve developed a tool-kit for Nebraska public libraries containing free health resources for you and your library. These include posters, brochures, social media slides, tutorials, and multi-lingual health information. In addition, the tool-kit expands on further training for your staff, funding opportunities, and how to tap in to regional medical librarians and community health data to continue to support your patrons’ health needs. We’re excited to share this tool-kit with all of you and make it freely available to webinar participants to use and share as they wish.
