This document discusses a partnership project between the Florida and Texas Departments of Health to exchange influenza laboratory data. Both states use the same LIMS system (LabWare) and have similar populations and public health challenges. The goals of the project are to exchange lab test orders and results between the two states, other states, and federal partners; develop a surge capacity model for pandemic flu testing; and integrate their LIMS systems to enable interoperable data exchange. Key challenges include differences in how each state has configured their LIMS and the distance between the states. The project involves using various technologies like Mirth and Rhapsody for integration and PHINMS for data exchange.
