The convergence of Windows has been a long time coming. Back in 2011, Microsoft had three platforms with three OSes. The PC and server OS was Windows, built on the Windows NT code base. The phone OS was Windows Phone, a derivative of Windows CE with surface-level similarities to Windows NT, but a different code base. The Xbox 360 OS was Windows NT, but it was a 10-year-old fork so wildly divergent that it, too, was a distinct code base. So what has this got to do with me as a developer? Simply put it means that developing applications for the App Platform enables apps across all Windows device families.
With Windows 10 devices reaching nearly 300 million, this platform is becoming a very relevant platform for game publishers to target. Join this session to get a great overview of the Universal platform. We will cover the differences & similarities to desktop games development, the Windows store, and state of all the middleware engines and other Microsoft technologies you can use to easily port your game from other platforms (or desktop) to Universal.
Here's our winning presentation from the Digital Innovation Challenge held at Publishing Expo in London, Feb 2014. This is a slightly simplified version with the animation and videos stripped in the interests of sharing more widely.
Microsoft has released Windows 10 and a whole new development platform to build Universal Windows Applications that can be deployed across all Windows device families. Did you know that you can take your existing website and publish it to the Windows store? Microsoft has stated a lofty goal of having an install base of Windows 10 on 1 billion devices over the next 2 years. According to NetMarketShare the Desktop Operating System Market Share on September 21, 2015 showed Windows 10 at 5.21%. Compare that to Mac OS X at 4.76%. Join us to talk about Microsoft’s OS convergence journey and what that means for us developers. See how easy it is to take your existing website experience into the Windows Store.
This presentation is an overview of the mobile development process with Adobe AIR. It discusses iOS, RIM, and Android development with Flash CS5 and Flash Builder (burrito)
This presentation contains mobile enablement is aspects of why, how would you approach mobile enablement and what tools and techniques you could use for it. 2016 has been a watershed year for UI design tools. Adobe finally launched XD, their direct competitor to Sketch. Sketch itself has not stopped evolving and is about to switch to a subscription model, and the venerable Photoshop remains a default install for many a UI and visual designer.
Though UI design is only one aspect of UX, it is the part of the process that defines the look and feel, as well as creating the assets for development. In that respect, choosing the best tool can have a big impact on both the quality of the designer’s work as well as their efficiency.
So, has the rise of Sketch and the advent of XD changed the playing field? Visual designer Rob Musser presents his analysis of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, and Sketch.

Understanding the Windows Desktop App Development Landscape + Top 10 WPF Po...MSDEVMTL
Groupe .NET/ASP.NET
Mardi 23 février 2016
Conférencier: Brian Noyes, Washington USA
Sujet #1: Understanding the Windows Desktop App Development Landscape
It's 2016. You've survived the UI technology uncertainties of the post-apocalyptic Silverlight and Windows 8 Store Apps era. You still have requirements to build desktop apps for Windows. Should you just use Windows Forms because you know it well and it has been stable for a decade? Should you use WPF because it is still the most powerful XAML variant out there? Should you jump on the Windows 10 Universal Windows Platform? Or should you give up the rich XAML and C#/VB world for the ever-expanding world of client JavaScript and Single Page Applications (SPAs)? In this session we will discuss all of these options, talk about the pros and cons of each and while there is no "one size fits all", we will try to arm you with the knowledge to make the right choice for your current and emerging client application requirements.
Sujet #2: Top 10 WPF Power Features
WPF is still the right technology for building many client applications today. You may be brand new to the platform, or you may have been using it for a little while. But WPF is vast and there are many different ways to get the same things done, some more efficient than others. In this session, I'll walk you through the top 10 things I think every WPF developer should know and use, along with scenarios where those features make sense.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
