This document outlines a 5-day lesson plan for teaching 5th grade students about the American Civil War. The 24 students are a diverse group. Over the course of the week, through videos, readings, activities and a robot, students will learn about America before and after the war, its causes and key events, and be able to describe its effects on the country with 90% accuracy.

2. Analyze Learners
• Teaching the Civil War and its effects on America
to 5th graders. There are 24 students: 10 girls
and 14 boys. Of the 24 students, there are 4
African American students, 2 Mexican American
students, and 3 Asian American students.

3. Main Objective
• My students will describe America before and
after the Civil War and its effects on America by
watching videos, reading stories and journals
and articles, doing individual and group
activities, and listening to a homemade robot by
the end of the week with 90 % accuracy.

War
• Day 4: Turning point of the Civil War
• Day 5: America after the Civil War
