This document describes project-based learning with a global focus (PBL[g]). PBL[g] aims to develop global competence and perspective consciousness in students. It presents complex, real-world problems that require collaboration across cultures. Students demonstrate their learning through products for authentic audiences. A specific PBL[g] project described involved students in New Jersey, China, and Australia documenting stories about World War II using digital tools. Students enhanced their technology skills and gained a more international perspective on WWII through interacting with peers in other countries. The project had positive impacts on students, teachers, and communities involved both directly and indirectly. Recommendations are made to further assess global competencies developed and increase the scale and integration of future P
Final Project
This document outlines a three-week unit plan for a fifth grade class to research and learn about significant events and people in history. Students will interview someone about an important time in history and then research that era. They will utilize technology, books, and other materials to research and compile information for a presentation. Throughout the unit, students will participate in discussions, receive instruction on research and interview skills, work independently on their projects, and provide self and peer assessments. The goal is for students to understand the importance and significance of history.

- 1. Blast From the Past This presentation gives an overview for the upcoming activities in our next unit
- 2. Overview for upcoming unit plan This presentation will inform about the project we will be starting within the next couple of weeks. Our project is entitled “Blast From the Past” and will last approximately one month. The purpose of this action plan is to allow student’s to use technology and collaborate with peers and community member’s to create a pamphlet with information about the various Native American Tribes will be learning about. The activities will be guided as follows. Objectives: Influence student learning with technology Use collaboration to find information Project will include editing and design through a word document Find information various ways (through technology, community members, books, museums, ect.)

Expected rolls of parents and students Students will be responsible for researching, planning, designing, and editing a pamplet that includes information about Native Americans from the Paleo Period, Archiac Period, Woodland Period, and Mississippian Period. Parents can facilitate their child or the entire classroom in a number of ways (gathering resources, volunteer in the classroom, guest speakers, and transportation)
