Pancho Villa
• Born June 5, 1878; Died July
  20, 1923.

• Real name was José Doroteo
  Arango Arámbula.

• He was a General in the
  Mexican Revolution.

• He served the División del
  Norte (Division of the North).

• He is considered a hero in
  Mexico.
Franz Ferdinand
• Born December 18, 1863; Died June
  28, 1914.

• He was an Archduke of Austria-Este
  and a Prince over Hungary and
  Bohemia.

• He was also the Heir for the Austro-
  Hungarian throne.

• He got this title when he became
  twelve after his Duke cousin died.

• His assassination is what eventually
  triggered World War One.
Allies
• They were countries opposing the Central
  Powers in the first World War.

• The first three countries(United
  Kingdom, France and Russia) were
  originally known as the Triple Entente.

• Russia left the Triple Entente, breaking
  the three up.

• Three more countries(United States, Italy
  and Japan) entered, forming the Allied
  Nations.

• The U.S. entered the war after
Central Powers
• A collection of countries opposing the
  Allied Forces.

• The Central Powers consisted of the
  German, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman,
  and Bulgarian Empires.

• They were united on June 28, 1914.

• They were ended on November 11,
  1918.

• Each country had their own war
  treaty.
Sussex Pledge
• A agreement made by Germany on May 4,
  1916.

• It was made after German U-boats destroyed
  the french ship Sussex.

• The terms were that passenger ships would not
  be shot at and merchant ships were not to be
  shot at unless weapons were to be found.

• It also promised that Merchant ships were not to
  be attacked without provisions for the crew
  aboard.
Zimmermann Telegram
• It was a secret message sent to a German officer
  in Mexico.

• The proposal inside stated that the Germans
  would help Mexico take back territories in the
  U.S. if they stopped them from interfering in the
  war.

• Britain intercepted this message in 1917.

• It wasn’t revealed to the Americans until later.

• After seeing it, the U.S. declared war on
  Germany.
War Industries Board
• It was an American government
  agency.

• It was founded on July 28,
  1917.

• It’s main purpose was to
  organize supplies for the war.

• It dealt with helping companies
  produce supplies through mass-
  production.

• Industrial production went up
Bernard Baruch
• Born August 19, 1870; Died June
  20, 1965.

• He was an American financier
  and Stock market spectator.

• He also served as a statesman and
  a political consulter.

• He advised Presidents Woodrow
  Wilson and Franklin D.
  Roosevelt.

• In his later years, he owned a
Liberty Bond
• A war bond sold in the U.S.

• Owning a bond was considered by
  many to be a citizen’s duty.

• Liberty bonds are still used today.

• Many liberty bonds helped in
  repairing what was destroyed
  during the 9/11 terrorist attack.

• There are a total of two liberty
  bond acts.
Victory Bond
• They are debt securities delivered by
  governments.

• The idea behind victory bonds is that
  people will give money to support troops in
  wars when they can’t.

• These bonds also helped the government
  control money until the war was over.

• They were usually a lower price value if
  you bought government issue.

• Many countries like the U.S.,
  Britain(pictured) and Canada used these.
Committee on Public
                 Information
• Also known as CPI or the Creel Committee.

• It was a U.S. agency.

• It was made to manipulate participation in
  war efforts.

• From April 13, 1917, to August 21, 1919, it
  influenced, in many different ways, support
  of American troops in Europe.

• It also helped to get Americans to support
  against other countries that want to destroy
  the war aims.

  • 2. Pancho Villa • Born June 5, 1878; Died July 20, 1923. • Real name was José Doroteo Arango Arámbula. • He was a General in the Mexican Revolution. • He served the División del Norte (Division of the North). • He is considered a hero in Mexico.

Franz Ferdinand • Born December 18, 1863; Died June 28, 1914. • He was an Archduke of Austria-Este and a Prince over Hungary and Bohemia. • He was also the Heir for the Austro- Hungarian throne. • He got this title when he became twelve after his Duke cousin died. • His assassination is what eventually triggered World War One.

Allies • They were countries opposing the Central Powers in the first World War. • The first three countries(United Kingdom, France and Russia) were originally known as the Triple Entente. • Russia left the Triple Entente, breaking the three up. • Three more countries(United States, Italy and Japan) entered, forming the Allied Nations. • The U.S. entered the war after
  • 5. Central Powers • A collection of countries opposing the Allied Forces. • The Central Powers consisted of the German, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, and Bulgarian Empires. • They were united on June 28, 1914. • They were ended on November 11, 1918. • Each country had their own war treaty.

Sussex Pledge • A agreement made by Germany on May 4, 1916. • It was made after German U-boats destroyed the french ship Sussex. • The terms were that passenger ships would not be shot at and merchant ships were not to be shot at unless weapons were to be found. • It also promised that Merchant ships were not to be attacked without provisions for the crew aboard.

Zimmermann Telegram • It was a secret message sent to a German officer in Mexico. • The proposal inside stated that the Germans would help Mexico take back territories in the U.S. if they stopped them from interfering in the war. • Britain intercepted this message in 1917. • It wasn’t revealed to the Americans until later. • After seeing it, the U.S. declared war on Germany.

  • 10. Liberty Bond • A war bond sold in the U.S. • Owning a bond was considered by many to be a citizen’s duty. • Liberty bonds are still used today. • Many liberty bonds helped in repairing what was destroyed during the 9/11 terrorist attack. • There are a total of two liberty bond acts.

Victory Bond • They are debt securities delivered by governments. • The idea behind victory bonds is that people will give money to support troops in wars when they can’t. • These bonds also helped the government control money until the war was over. • They were usually a lower price value if you bought government issue. • Many countries like the U.S., Britain(pictured) and Canada used these.
  • 12. Committee on Public Information • Also known as CPI or the Creel Committee. • It was a U.S. agency. • It was made to manipulate participation in war efforts. • From April 13, 1917, to August 21, 1919, it influenced, in many different ways, support of American troops in Europe. • It also helped to get Americans to support against other countries that want to destroy the war aims.
