2. • Weather and climate
Weather and climate are not the same.
Weather is the condition of the atmosphere of a
place during a short period of time (a day or a
week, for example).
Climate is the condition of the atmosphere over a
period of year.
Climates generally depend on three factors:
• Proximity to equator: the climate is warmer close
to the equator.
• Altitude above sea level: the climate is warmer in
low places.
• The influence of the sea: the climate is warmer
close to the sea.
