White Space Creativity - Frontend Conference CH 2014Denise Jacobs
In visual arts and graphic design, white space is fundamental to allowing a creation to exist, by creating delineation and focus. Similarly, in our lives, creativity often sprouts from the "white space" of time: the moments in our increasingly busy schedules between activities and thoughts that allow the subconscious to better absorb and connect information. Clearly, in order to be more creative, we need to open up this "in-between" space in our lives, but once we've done so, how can we best capitalize upon the brain's natural creative capacities? In this talk, we'll explore several counter-intuitive and potentially subversive methods for leveraging this "white space" to foment innovative thinking creative productivity.

Banish Your Inner Critic: Transform Self-Talk and Own Your Expertise - UX Hus...Denise Jacobs
The Inner Critic is the main source of our biggest blocks to perform at our best. Fortunately, there are simple and effective ways to banish the inner critic in order to do our best work as contributors, collaborators, and leaders.
First, you’ll discover the three mental power tools that you already possess to stop the inner critic in its tracks. Then you’ll learn methods for dealing with the fear of being judged and criticized, how to transform highly critical self-talk into that of approval and encouragement, and ways to feel like your ideas are good enough and stop committing “ideacide.”
By the end, you’ll have a roadmap of how to get unstuck, do your best work, and channel your creativity as a force for positive change in the world.

In addition, try to analyze the power of this new economy and how it fosters business, illustrated with actual examples of cases where the collaborative economy has led to a higher level; to understand how the word "purchase" has been restructured by the exchange, rent, lease and / or save; beyond that, the work has the meaning to question how does service quality based on personal experience. It is an exploratory case study with a qualitative approach. Besides the observation and historical analysis, surveys on secondary sources such as bibliographic and documentary information sources were used in research on websites who bring this kind of information about the platforms studied in order to better understand how we can evaluate their reputation today.

There's a movement brewing built upon leveraging the transformative power of creativity to help us work and create better so that we can produce work infused with meaning. Discover how by knowing your Why, instilling tiny habits to cultivate your creative spark, and finally, fomenting creative collaboration based on the tenets of improv and open spaces, you can take the spark of Creativity (R)Evolution and use it as the impetus to push you, your teams, and your companies to create betterness.
Sometimes making choices in our career paths is difficult. Wouldn't it be helpful to have guidelines to help us make decisions that open up your options rather than shut them down? Discover how choosing creativity, a growth mindset, finding your Flow, and being a Maker puts you on the path of having infinite possibilities in your career, creating a clear path to a future where you can not only be awesome, but also do meaningful work.
As a developer and a creative, you need ways to work better so that you can create more, but what do you do when you hit a seemingly insurmountable mental wall? You need to get unblocked: to bust through that barrier to allow creativity to flow. Beware: this presentation challenges the standard norms around concentration, focus, productivity, and may change how you work…for the better.

Creating can be a tortured process. Sadly, this torture is often self-inflicted. The angst is not inherent in the creative process itself, but instead comes from the fears we have around our ability to produce. These fears manifest as the Inner Critic, which is the largest block to the flow of original ideas. But there’s good news: you can break the power that Inner Critic wields over you to become a creative powerhouse!
In this talk, we’ll begin by exploring the origins of the Inner Critic and discover the tools that you already possess to vanquish it. Then we’ll dive into methods for dealing with the fear of being judged and criticized, how to transform highly critical self-talk into that of approval and encouragement, and ways to feel like your ideas are good enough and stop committing “ideacide.”
By the end, you’ll have a roadmap of how to not only get unstuck, but to channel your creativity as a force for positive change in the world. The potential for greatness lies dormant in all of us. Banishing your Inner Critic is the first step to getting back in touch with the highly productive creative badass that you are and sharing your gifts with the world.
Your inner critic is an unconscious deterrent that stands between the seeds of great ideas and the fruits of achievement, keeping you stuck by telling you you’re just faking it, that others have more talent, that you’ll never achieve the success you seek. Let's discover how to anatomize this pernicious inner force, and then learn techniques to banish this critic so that you can have the mental space and energy to let your true talents emerge -- and help you be a badass with your work.

How to Have Difficult Conversations With Confidence - MTP Digital 2020Denise Jacobs
Sometimes it’s difficult to have the self-assurance needed to tackle having some of the difficult conversations that are part and parcel of your work – particularly with the high level of Impostor syndrome that many product managers experience.
It turns out that silencing the inner critic is part of the foundation for cultivating the courage needed to have difficult conversations with more confidence. As a bonus, getting rid of the mean inner voice additionally enhances creative problem-solving, innovative thinking, and collaboration skills – three items that Product Managers have to use everyday.
In this session, we’ll first identify the ways in which the inner critic weakens our nerve to tackle head-on the conversations that we need to have. Then, we’ll explore powerful mental reframes and tools for reducing self-doubt, dealing with impostor syndrome, and recognizing cognitive distortions. Finally, we’ll address some of the most common difficult conversations such as giving and receiving feedback, getting teams in alignment with each other, dealing with execs, and saying no, and tools to facilitate each.
There are certain conversations that will always provoke anxiety. However, the tools and practices shared in this session will put you on the path to honing interpersonal skills, developing resilience, and increased self-awareness.
Overcome Self-Doubt to Amplify Your Impact and Create a Better World - GSLA 202Denise Jacobs
During these unprecedented times, we are particularly susceptible to The Inner Critic, that internal voice of self-doubt and judgement. Fortunately, there are effective ways to banish the inner critic so that we can be better to ourselves so that we can step into our power, amplify our impact, and create the changes we want to see in the world.
In this session, we'll also look at how amping up self-care enables us to give more to others, the power of compassion and how it helps us get to self-compassion, tapping into our imagination to envision what we want to create, and to how we to tap into our passion to contribute positively to the world when our communities and the world need our brilliance the most.
During these unprecedented times, we are particularly susceptible to our own Inner Critic.

Fortunately, there are effective ways to banish your inner critic so that you can be better to yourself and still show up powerfully to meet the needs around you.
In this webinar, Denise Jacobs will share useful and effective tools to start to decrease the levels of anxiety that may be plaguing you. 99. Art students were given 27 eclectic objects and were instructed to select a
few and arrange a still life and draw it. Some examined relatively few
objects, outlined their idea swiftly, and moved quickly to draw their still
life. Others took their time: handled more objects, turned them this way
and that, rearranged them several times, and needed much longer to
complete the drawing.
It appeared as if the first group was trying to solve a problem: How can I
produce a good drawing? Whereas the second was trying to find a
problem: What good drawing can I produce?
The problem-finders’ drawings had been ranked much higher in creativity
than the problem-solvers’. Ten years later, the problem-finders had all
gone on to be professional artists, while the problem-solvers had left the
art world.
Another decade later, the problem-finders were “significantly more
successful — by the standards of the artistic community — than their
peers.”
