Academic History
I am looking at university courses that focus on culture and
communication skills instead of focussing on the practical side of
media, like film studies. This is because I am more interested in the
theoretical side of media then practical, I enjoy writing and
researching about media instead of creating and producing videos.
From my academic history I got a 6 in English Language at GCSE and I
really enjoyed writing, I also started sociology at A levels which I
found very interesting. I didn’t complete my A levels for personal
reasons, but while I was still sitting my A levels I really enjoyed
sociology and always imagined carrying it on later in life. I think the
link between sociology and media studies would defiantly be
something that I was interested in learning more about. And
something that I could see myself creating a career out of.
Current Study
This course has completely shaped what I decided to take at
University, from this course I have been able to appreciate where
my talents/skills lie in communication with media studies. I now
know that although I enjoy the practical side and have learnt a wide
range of skills about it, e.g. film making and producing, I enjoy
writing articles and conducting photoshoots more so when
deciding my University course I will be taking this into
consideration.
From this course I have learnt a lot of different skills, it has been so
useful to learn a different skill set because through that I have been
ale to appreciate where my talents lie. Also, a lot of skills are
interchangeable and I can use skills I’ve learnt for multiple different
things, e.g. by spending time l understanding how to use a camera I
have been able to create music videos, and also conduct
photoshoots.
The Future
I haven’t decided what I want to do in the future yet, with my media
studies qualification I will carry on to University and then through
University I will have more experience with media studies in the real
world and hopefully find an aspect that I am especially interested in
and be motivated to create a career around it. So far I am interested
in Journalism, cultural media, and photography. I have researched
these different subjects and discovered what kind of grades I need
to accomplish to have the opportunity to study these topics at
University. Journalism requires previous education in English
Language, I have a 6 in GCSE English Language which isn’t ideal but
if I manage to accomplish a distinction in my second year of media
studies then I think the grade will stand alone and increases my
chances of being accepted to a Journalism degree.
Outside College
Outside of school I don’t have many hobbies because I don’t
have time due to my work schedule, I work five times a week
so the days I have I like to spend socialising or relaxing.
However, in my spare time I do enjoy reading and taking
photographs so this helps me stay in touch with my journalism
passion. Also, in the next year leading up to University when I
have more spare time/or I have my time structured more
efficiently I want to start writing articles to build up my
writing strength. I also want to start volunteering because I
think it would look effective on my CV and make a University
more inclined to accept my application.
Conclusion
I want to go to University because I want to give myself the best
opportunities that are available to me so that I can be as
successful as I can in the future. I also think I would enjoy the
structure of University, I would excel as being independent and
completing my work, with deadlines. I am motivated and have a
very high work ethic and will make sure that I keep a consistent
and successful work rate through the course. I am motivated to
do the best that I can.
Introduction
I am applying for subjects that are all based on media studies,
this is because I understand media studies and I am passionate
about it. It is very important to be passionate because I wont lose
interest and therefore will stay motivated throughout the course.
For University courses I am interested in researching Journalism
ones, this is because they include two topics that I am passionate
about, writing articles and photography. Also, after researching
different universities and finding out about the different courses
included I was interested in ones from the Media and Cultural
studies course.
