Academic History
• During my time at school I studied Maths, English Language and Literature, Double
Science, Drama, Spanish, Textiles and ICT. After finishing my time at school I
enrolled at college with the course Level 2 Creative Media whilst also redoing my
Maths GCSE. With the skills we learned through out the year from the course, we
were then asked to create an FMP of our own choice. I decided to create a
Portfolio using photos I’ve taken from an Art Gallery in York. I then edited the
photo I had taken into Photoshop. I created an array of photos placing the original
side by side with the version I had made. Looking back on the work I did during my
first year I think that I could have been more creative with my ideas and created
something more impactful. Going into my second year at York College I was
confident that I would be able to create something more impactful and creative.
Using what I learned from my year doing Level 2 Creative Media I was able to
come up with a range of ideas that I could use.
Current Study
• Having previous taken the Level 2 Creative Media and then going on to take Level 3
course, I found that my skills I learned from the previous year e.g. how to use the
cameras and what correct settings to put them onto when taking photos, as well
as learning how to use various software such as Photoshop, PremierPro and
Adobe. During my time in my second year I found that the work I was doing
became much simpler because of the work I had previously done the year before
and what I had learned from that year had stuck with me. During my first year we
were asked to create an audio project where we would advertise a certain product
and then use Adobe PremierPro to edit it. I found that this became more useful
during my second year since we were also asked to create an audio project, expect
this time we were asked to create a project based on a ghost story of our choice.
What I liked about the Level 2 course was that it felt like a sort of introduction into
the course which made me want to continue into the Level 3 course because I
found that I enjoyed the kind of work we were introduced to e.g. the final FMP
project aspect and the mini projects we were given to help get used to the types of
software that we would use through out the year. When going into my first year at
college I was already familiar with certain bits of software thanks to my time
during school. This came in handy during my course because I was able to easily
understand what I was being told to do and was able to work fast.
The Future
• Once I have graduated from University I would want to find a job that is relevant to
what I studied at University, (the course I have chosen to study at University being
Creative Writing). A job I would most like to go for in the future is to work at a
publishing company, since I am interested in not only writing but also the
manufacturing aspect of books and the process they go through before they are
put onto shelves in book stores. However whilst having a stable job I would also
want to continue writing on the side. I think that gaining experience from this kind
of job will help me in the future when I want/if I want to publish my own work,
since I would have already worked in that sort of department and know how
things are done. I think that my choice of course will help me to achieve this
because it shows that I have a sort of interest in this kind of industry and are
already familiar with a variety of different books and know what kinds of books
appear to different people.
Outside College
• Outside of the work I have to do for college, I tend to do a lot of reading and
writing. When reading I tend to focus on a particular theme e.g. murder mystery,
since I like reading stories that can bring out a lot of emotions within me as the
reader. However when I am writing I prefer to spread out over different themes
e.g. sci-fi, murder mystery, horror, humor. I also find that rather than writing just
one story I write a few, turning most of them into short stories or even poems. I
don’t current have a part time job or do any volunteer work, however if there was
an opportunity for me to apply for one then I would. I think that having a hobby
that relates to not only what I want to study at University but also want do for a
living as a job.
Conclusion
• I want to go to University because I feel that it will give me a good experience and
at the end of it all I will be able to get a good degree which can help to open a lot
of opportunities for me in the future when looking for a job. I think that I am a
good candidate when looking and applying for Universities because of how
dedicated I am to my hobbies and how they will help me when I study since I will
already have an idea as to what I would want to write and how to write certain
things depending on the topic and/or theme.
Introduction
• I want to go to University to study Creative Writing. After researching different
universities and seeing what courses they have to offer, I found that a lot of the
courses don’t strictly just do Creative Writing. There were a lot of courses that
have creative writing with another subject on the side e.g. creative writing with
English literature. I want to go to university because I think that it will help me to
gain a better understanding into writing and how I can improve my work and make
it better. This will also help me in the future for when I plan to write either my own
book or a series of books.
