6. I chose this image as my final and best edit for plenty of reasons. First of all, the technique
is pretty good. There are more than 5 different compositional and editing techniques which
I used in this edit. To list some of them: filling, cutting, shading, replacing, colour effects,
lighting and pasting. I also think this includes all the different kind of images I was supposed
to show. I showed compositional techniques, a composite of different pictures and other
technologies (the background picture was taken with a wide angle lens on a iPhone) in the
same picture. Furthermore, it can link to not a single artist but to all of them. In my case, I
took inspiration from the perpetual and redundant style of Andreas Gursky. In his works, he
tries to show how repetition of light, colour and subjects, can make an image look different
to a variety of people and create a surreal monumentality. I believe repetition is a really
important compositional tool that can be related to almost every photographer. And, of
course, I showed this technique in my very own way by placing multiple times my perfume
bottle in various positions and shapes inside the man’s silhouette.
As I mentioned in my introduction brief, the target audience for my photos is about men
between 20 and 30 years old but the proper age reference may slightly change in the
images. I think I brought this concept into this edit because, since it doesn’t clearly show
the person, the subject, it leaves space for the viewer to possibly identify himself in the
man’s silhouette. The smartphones in the background image and its lights effects helps to
give that sense of power, force and freedom of expression that I wanted my fragrance to
convey.
