This document defines and provides examples of several types of documentaries: fly on the wall documentaries observe real life without interfering; mixed documentaries combine interviews, narration, and archive footage; self-reflective documentaries acknowledge the camera's presence; docusoaps follow individuals' lives over long periods; docudramas reconstruct real events; reality TV blends information and entertainment; and fully narrated documentaries use voiceovers to aid understanding.
