banks to larger customers or organisation such as:

5. International trade finance businesses
6. Services offered to other banks or other
financial institutions.

type of lending occurs on the interbank market &
often involves extremely large sum of money.

Supermarket of all financial products under one
roof.
R.H Khan Committee introduced universal banking.
• Investment in securities
• Merchant Banking
• Accepting deposits
• Issuing debit cards
• Foreign Exchange operation.
• For. Eg. SBI,
Para Banking
Banks which apart from basic facility of bank like
accepting deposits, Giving Loans, withdrawal If a
banks provides rest other facilities like MF
Business, Insurance business, Underwriting of
bonds, Portfolio Management etc.
Narrow Banking
• Banks which invests in risk free securities like
G- Secs.
• Limited banking services
Off shore Banking
A bank located outside the country of residence of
the depositor , typically in a low tax jurisdiction (or
tax haven) that provides financial and legal
advantages like
1. Greater privacy
2. Low or no taxation (i.e tax havens)
3. Easy access to deposits (at least in terms of
regulations)
4. Protection against local, political or financial
instabilty.
Retail Banking
It is type of banking in which direct dealing with the retail
customers is done. Also caller consumer banking or personal
banking.

2. Two Wheeler loan
3. Personal loan
4. Gold loan
5. Education loan
6. Accepting deposits
7. Overdraft facility in SB A/c
8. E banking
Islamic Banking
• Also known as non interest banking that is
based on the principles of Islamic or Shari’ah ,
Law and guided by Islamic economics.
• Two fundamental principles
1. Sharing of profit and loss with the customers
2. Prohibition of collection and payment of
interest.
Islamic Law prohibit collecting interest or “riba”
Unit Banking
• Unit bank is generally a single branch Small
bank which provides financial services to the
local community.
• USA Introduced Unit Banks.
• India Banks example are RRB and Local Area
Banks.
• Services are restricted to local village or
district.
Shadow Banking
• It is term used for NBFC that provide services
similar to commercial banks but outside banking
regulations
• They provide
i) Credit Intermediation
ii) Liquidity Transformation
iii) Maturity transformation
Shell Bank- They do not having no physical
existence but somehow provides banking services.
USA banned such banks.

  • 11. Off shore Banking A bank located outside the country of residence of the depositor , typically in a low tax jurisdiction (or tax haven) that provides financial and legal advantages like 1. Greater privacy 2. Low or no taxation (i.e tax havens) 3. Easy access to deposits (at least in terms of regulations) 4. Protection against local, political or financial instabilty.

Sharing of profit and loss with the customers 2. Prohibition of collection and payment of interest. Islamic Law prohibit collecting interest or “riba”
  • 14. Unit Banking • Unit bank is generally a single branch Small bank which provides financial services to the local community. • USA Introduced Unit Banks. • India Banks example are RRB and Local Area Banks. • Services are restricted to local village or district.

Shadow Banking • It is term used for NBFC that provide services similar to commercial banks but outside banking regulations • They provide i) Credit Intermediation ii) Liquidity Transformation iii) Maturity transformation Shell Bank- They do not having no physical existence but somehow provides banking services. USA banned such banks.
