The Matter And Procedure At 3 Pemberton Square
The Matter and Procedure
On Friday, September 23, 2016, I visited the Suffolk Superior Courthouse located at 3 Pemberton
Square in Boston. The judge is Hon. Heide Brieger.
The case was about a woman, Meaghan Fitzpatrick, suing Wendy s, JBM Souderton (Wendy s
meat supplier), and Willow Run Foods. She claimed that there were bones in a burger she bought
from Wendy s, which caused her having to go through multiple oral surgeries, pain, and years of
psychological discomfort.
The case continued from Thursday and started with the defendant s attorney, Christopher Duggan,
questioning the witness for Wendy s, a middle age man who works at JBM as a manager. The
witness testified about the meat making process in JBM, and was then cross examined by the
plaintiff s attorney, Matthew Fogelman. Mr. Fogelman then called the plaintiff, Meaghan
Fitzpatrick, to the witness stand. She testified about what happened after she bite the burger and
what she had go through afterwards. The trial then proceeded to closing statements.
The Witnesses
The defendant s witness was a JBM manager with decades of experience in the industry. He
testified that the process of meat making in JBM is extremely rigorous with multiple level of
inspection and above standard equipment. He showed the jury the entire beef making process by
drawing on a board. The lawyer has also submitted the final grind as an exhibit to prove that any
bone bigger than a certain size will not be able go through. All was guided by

Bill Russell And The Civil Rights Movement
It feels forever that he has played. It feels forever since the Civil Rights movement. It feels
forever since we heard about Bill Russell.Bill Russell is one of the most influential and best
athletes in the world. Bill Russell lived in a normal neighborhood in his time. As an African
American, he and his family were constantly being attacked by racist comments. To begin, Bill
Russell is one of two sons of Katie and Charles Russell. He lived in a racial neighborhood and his
family were often made fun of by making fun of their race(Bill Russell Biography). Russell grew

To start, Bill Russell became the First African American to be coaching players in a professional
league (World Book). In the 60 s, racial differences were a huge part for a black person s life,
always getting tormented and bullied just because of their skin. Being the first African American
coach for a professional league is a big step. In addition, He received the Medal of Freedom,
national acclaim, and much credit for his important contributions to the Civil Rights movement.
But this isn t to say that his fight was easy (Bill Russell, Civil Rights Leader and Champion). He
helped stop racism by joining the civil rights movement, which later the city of Boston made a
statue in his honor. Briefly, Bill Russell has been a commentator for a TV sports program

encourage his fans to be a sports commentator or anything they want to be. Finally, Bill Russell has

Most Powerful Images Of The Falling Man
In this photo, it shows a man falling from the World Trade Center. He is called The Falling Man
. This photo sent pins and needles straight to my heart. Seeing this photo, sends a great amount
of sadness and sorrow into my soul. I believe this is one of the most powerful images of 9/11
because it takes a great amount of strength to make a decision like The Falling Man and many
others did. This man, along with many others, chose to fall instead of being taken down by the
flames and smoke. The Falling Man and many others like him, didn t have a choice to live or die.
They only had the choice in which way they died. Can you imagine making that decision?

Arithmetic Mean and Gulf View Essay
Gulf Real Estate Properties
Gulf Real Estate Properties, Inc., is a real estate firm located in southwest Florida. The company,
which advertises itself as expert in the real estate market, monitors condominium sales by
collecting data on location, list price, sale price, and number of days it takes to sell each unit.
Each condominium is classified as Gulf View if it is located directly on the Gulf of Mexico or No
Gulf View if it is located on the bay or a golf course, near but not on the Gulf. Sample data from
the Multiple Listing Service in Naples, Florida, provided recent sales data for 40 Gulf View
condominiums and 18 No Gulf View condominiums. Prices are in thousands of dollars.

To calculate the mean I added up the sum of days to sell and divided by 18. The mean is
203,188.89, which mean the average of the listed price. The median was calculated by listing the
numbers in numerical order from lowest to highest and located the number in the middle of

Needle Sharps Injury Research Paper
The research question/Statement Needle Sharps injuries (NSI) in Australia. How can safety
practices be improved to reduce injury to healthcare providers. Why is this relevant to
contemporary health care? Sharps injuries (mainly needlestick), carry the risk of serious infections.
Healthcare providers are exposed to dangerous and potentially life threatening infections. Most
needlestick injuries together with other sharps injuries remain largely preventable. Sharps injuries
remain an important area of study since it affects a large number of healthcare providers.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 385,000 needlesticks
injuries occur yearly in hospital based environment s (Wilburn, 2004). The utilization of an
apparatus with safety made protective attributes, mandated in the United States in year 2000 has
been led to decreased rates of needlestick injuries (Battles, Keyes Grady, 2008). However, Australia
remains the only nation with well developed infection prevention and control systems... Show more

Dublin, Ireland. This was about the same time North Carolina became a royal colony. She
married William Darragh, a family friend and member of the clergy, in 1753. They moved to
Philadelphia a few years later, settling into a large Quaker community. William became a tutor
and Lydia found work as a midwife. They raised five children, with four others perishing as
infants. Quakers were known for being pacifists, though the Darraghs secretly supported the rebels
and their cause. The plot thickened as British troops marched into Philadelphia in 1777. The
following October General Washington failed to recapture the city, and his troops retreated to
Whitemarsh. The day after, Major John Andre demanded the use of the Darragh s home for
meetings. Lydia s cousin helped persuade them to allow her to stay in her home, though the
youngest of the children were sent to their relatives outside the city. Not only could they continue to
live normally, but spying on British meetings would be much easier. The battle of Princeton was

Space Debris
There are kinds of materials, always floating around in the space. When astronauts are doing the
space traveling, it is the worst thing to come across with these materials. Some people may be not
familiar with these materials; however, the one I was talking about is called space debris in the
term of space science.
Space debris is made up with both natural particles and artificial particles, which are called as
meteoroids and man made products. Natural particles are always in the track around the sun;
however, most of the artificial particles are in the orbit about the earth. So we may call these as
orbital debris, which are always in the orbit of stars. (Space Debris and Human Spacecraft, 2013)
According to the prediction, there are more than 21,000 pieces of orbital debris which are larger
than 10 centimeters and half a million bits of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and throwing them into a part of space where can burn up rapidly. Furthermore, laser work as well,
which use the power from the photon. It can slow them down till to the atmosphere of the earth.

Film Analysis Of Lauren Greenfield s The Queen Of...
Lauren Greenfield s 2012 documentary The Queen of Versailles offers an entertaining and thought
provoking look at what subjects a documentary can cover as the film follows billionaires David
and Jacqueline Siegel and their family as they navigate the 2008 economic crisis and attempt to
build a mansion inspired by Versailles. Though the premise of the film is fairly straightforward, on a
deeper level the film touches upon such ideas as the unattainability of the American Dream, the
correlation between wealthand happiness, and family perseverance in the face of adversity.
However, one key theme of the film serves to discredit the outside assumption that wealthy
individuals lead flawless happy lives, and are in someway elevated beyond typical humanity, not
experiencing hardships in the same manner as middle classsociety. In reality, as the film
demonstrates, the wealthy are as flawed and as deeply human as any other class, capable of
experiencing hardships and unhappiness regardless of material wealth. To further explore how the
film achieves its theme, one must first have a firm understanding of the documentaryform and how
certain events in the film highlight the theme, which is explored in the following paragraphs .
Firstly, it is important to understand how the documentary form is best suited to illustrate the film s
theme. In order to do this, one must have an overview of the documentary style of filmmaking.

Financial Ratio Analysis Report
FINANCIAL RATIO ANALYSIS REPORT
The fiscal year 2004 was a relatively soft year for Barnes Noble, Incorporated (B N). Blockbuster
nonfiction books that came out during the year may not have come from the company, but business
remained strong. This is due to the million of books already in the market, including phenomenal
fiction hits The Da Vinci Code, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and The Rule of Four, and
thousands of new releases during the year. This claim was supported by the stable and strong
figures embodied in the financial statements.

Just because B N is primarily a merchandising company wherein cost of goods sold is a vital
expenditure, the Gross Profit Margin rate is a significant ratio as this helps in evaluating inventory
control measures. Moreover, gross profit is the very thing that recovers operating expenses. B N
maintains the rate at 30% with slight differences through the comparative years. The year 2004
figure of 30.51% is consistent with the company s overall improvement.
The rate used to evaluate the efficiency of assets to generate income is called the Rate Earned on
Average Assets, or Return on Investment (ROI). There was a slight decrease in 2004 from 2003,
posing the figures 4.03% and 4.46%, respectively. Though it cannot be concluded in an instant that
the company is inefficient in asset utilization, especially when the asset turnover rate is
considered in the evaluation. As previously stated, income from discontinued operations which
forms part of the net income affects the rate. Rate Earned on Average Equity likewise showed
such a decrease, 13.38% in 2003 to 11.91% in 2004, or a difference of 1.47%. Investors need not
panic for this immaterial reduction although it pays to investigate further, especially that the
Retained Earnings balance decreased by US$138M or 26.44% from 2003 to 2004.
For the creditors, Capital Structure Analysis is employed in order to evaluate the overall capability
of the company to pay its debt.

Pros And Cons Of Hernan Cortes
Hernan Cortes conquest of the Aztec Empire gave birth to three hundred years of Spanish rule in
Mexico. Miguel Hidalgo, a Catholic priest, and leader of the independence movement united:
indigenous peasants, poor creoles, nobility in Spanish America and the Catholic church within the
colony to depose Spaniard royalist power which Cortes had given birth to (Mckay 684). This
unlikely alliance stemmed from the widespread discontent of Spaniard viceroy assumption of
control of the government of New Spain from its capital in MexicoCity after Napoleon s coup in
1808 (Mckay 684). The signing of Iturbide s Plan of Iguala ended eleven years of struggle for
independence, and the end of Spaniard control. This plan not only established Mexico as a
constitutional monarchy but as well solidified the cultural transition from the polytheism of the
Aztec Empire to the strong monotheism of the newly emerging Catholic Church. Because the
colonial system depended on the loyalty of the clergy: the priests controlled the people, this allowed
the Catholic Church s influence to grow within the colony (Lynch 109). The separation of the
Catholic Church from the Spanish crown played a vital role in the attainment of independence.
Considering the separation of the Catholic Church from the Spanish crown and how the Plan de
Iguala concluded the Mexican War of independence, I intend to explore: How the Catholic Church
changed the Mexican War of Independence? Both John Lynch in his book New Worlds

The Arguments Of Donald Trump
Over the past year and a half, the NFL has received a lot of grief for what their players are doing
during the national anthem. Most recently things have really started to heat up when Donald
Trump got involved. He used profanity to describe the players that kneel and stated that any
players that kneel should be fired. There are a lot of people that have this same opinion, but
since he is the President, it gets made into a much bigger deal. He is supposed to be the leader of
our Nation and it seems like there are bigger issues in the world to worry about. People are
furious with him saying this about the NFL players and thinks he should stick to those other
issues. He thinks these players are disrespecting the flag and the great people that fought for our
nation and wanted to state his opinion on it. Isn t it their civil liberty to decide if they want to
stand or not? Also, is this what Colin Kaepernick was going for when he originally took his knee,
or is his idea being lost in the mix? With the research that I have done, I have a clearer perspective

This coverage is best if a family prefers the convenience and predictability of copayments for

The Health Savings Account combines a lower cost, high deductible health insurance plan with a
tax favored savings account. HSAs allow you to deposit the money an insurer saves on
premiums into a tax favored HSA, subject to federal limits. The individual uses these savings to
pay qualified health care expenses until the out of pocket maximum is met, then insurance starts
to pay the covered health care costs, once the deductible is met. Any leftover savings roll over
year after year and continues to earn interest. This is a good insurance option if a person wants

High Deductible or Traditional insurance is a more economical way to help protect a person s

The Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis
The cost volume profit analysis (CVP) is used to help companies determine breakeven points and
pricing for their products. It is a method of cost accounting ењЁased on determining the breakeven
point of cost and volume of goods and is useful for managers making short term economic decisions
(Investopedia, 2013).
The mechanism of CVP begins with the revenue, so the price point and the volume of units sold
(CliffNotes, 2013). A good way to understand the CVP analysis is using a simple income statement
example (Choo Tan, 2011) The example that will be used here is a one product small company
Acme, which makes ball bearings. The cost of producing one ball bearing is six cents. The
objective for Acme in using CVP analysis is to determine how many ball bearings it must sell at
its normal price in order to breakeven. Suppose its fixed costs are $100,000. If the normal price for
a ball bearing is twenty cents that is the variable cost. The contribution is the revenue variable
cost, so in this case 14 cents. The breakeven point is 100,000 / 0.14 = 714,286 ball bearings.
There are a few different ways that the company can gain competitive advantage using the CVP
method and the information that it generates about the business. The first thing the company can
learn is with respect to pricing. The company needs to sell 714,286 ball bearings, so it will only
produce ball bearings if it thinks that it can sell that many. If the company does not believe that it
can sell enough

The Role Of Schizophrenia In Shakespeare s Hamlet
My greatest fear is this brain of mine..The worst thing imaginable is to be terrified of one s own
mind, the very matter that controls all that we are and all that we do and feel (Torrey). E. Fuller
Torrey, M.D wrote a book to help the parents and families of people who suffer from schizophrenia
disorders and those alike. According to many doctors who are specialist like Torrey, schizophrenia
disorders are held on a spectrum and hold different subtypes of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia can
take control over a person s life and mind in some of the worst ways possible. In Shakespeare s
Hamlet, Hamlet s biggest adversity is his own mind. Hamlet shows symptoms of Schizoaffective
disorder, a subtype of schizophrenia that causes delusions and severe depression. Hamlet shows
symptoms of schizoaffective disorder through his delusions of conversations with his dead father
and his severe depression over his father s death and mother s remarriage throughout the play.

How Does Technology Interrupt Social Relationships And...
Moreover, not only does technology interrupt social relationships and slowly eliminate empathy,
but it also is a colossal distraction from daily activities and responsibilities, and leads users to
waste a lot of time. In the article, Attached to Technology and Paying a Price , by Matt Richtel,
Mr. Campbell had been waiting for one of the most important emails of his life for several days
until one day he finally saw it while sifting through old messages and realized that the email had
appeared in his mailbox 12 days ago. Mr.Campbell states how It s hard to miss an email like that,
but I did. This shows that Mr. Campbell was not entirely focused at the task at hand and was
somehow distracted by technology. Richtel explains how the message had slipped by
Mr.Campbell amid an electronic flood: two computer screens alive with e mail, instant
messages, online chats, a web browser and the computer code he was writing . The job that was
intended to done with his devices was not and instead distractions like instant messages and
online chats were present all due to technology. Not only is Mr.Campbell a victim of technology,
but also his wife, Brenda, finds herself trapped in technology s wrath. Richtel mentions how
[Brenda] feels less focused and has trouble completing projects [when devices are within sight] .
Therefore, this proves that technology is not only a distraction to those who overuse it, but also to
those who simply are in the presence of a device, such as a

The Return Of Depression Economics
2008 Economics Noble Prize winner and Princeton University professor, Paul Krugman,
translates the roots of modern and prior financial crisis economics. In his book, The Return of
Depression Economics and The Crisis of 2008, Krugman first educates the reader of historical and
foreign financial crises which allows for a deeper understanding of the modern financial system.
The context provided from the historical analysis proves to be a crucial prospective in such a way
that the rest of Krugman s narrative about modern finance continually relates back to the historical
analysis. From there, Krugman analyzes and updates his prior studies done on the Asian financial
crisis. He then applies his knowledge from historical events to the modern day financial struggles
and argues his opinion about how and why our financial world operates the way it does. Krugman
explains his perspective that the world believed that depression economicswas no longer a problem,
however the Asian crisis, Japan s liquidity trap and the Latin American crisis having acted as
warning signals to modern market struggles. Thus he says that this subject needs further
examination and more resources should be poured into it. For Krugman, Depression Economics is
still a relevant problem and should be further studied.
On top of simply translating past and present financial systems, Krugman dissects the
interconnection between economics and politics. Starting with the rise of socialism, many
governments took on

Analysis Of Dennett s Qualia
memory has changed when comparing the two. Since qualia cannot be used to verify claims about
qualia, they are content less and incoherent or so Dennett s tale goes.
IV. Dennett contra Qualia Dennett is a man upset. A man upset about qualia he seems appalled that
something could exist which cannot be tested or used in some way to verify something. In fact,
Dennett seems so upset about qualia he created his own idea of it, and argued against that instead of
a more charitably (or correctly) understood definition. How, then, to prove the qualia Dennett uses
is a strawman? Let s start by discussing his two examples first, with pump 5/6 on neurosurgery.
Recall that Dennett believes the neurosurgeon showed that our qualia are less than private and
immediately apprehensible. The neurosurgeon knew our qualia better we could not tell what was
changed between our memory of past qualia and our current qualia. Dennett thinks pump 5/6 does
particularly well in undermining the apprehensibility of qualia after all, the qualia itself seems
useless is telling us just what has happened during the surgery. Except, qualia never could. The
neurosurgeon, if he or she changed our memory, would still change our qualia our qualia of the
memory. Dennett didn t seem to understand the scope of qualia here or that we produce it
automatically from intending our consciousness toward anything at all, including memory. We have

castle and the prince from her tale about Briar Rose. This is an important event to the story that
made Rebecca question about Gemma s past.
Becca found a box full of old pictures of Gemma leading all the clues to a place called Kulmhof.
Kulmhof is not an ordinary place, it was a concentration camp no, it was a place of extermination.
Harvey had said that no woman nor a man had ever escaped the extermination camp alive. This is
important because this is providing us a pathway to Gemma s past.

The story of Briar Rose is a mysterious, interesting, and sometimes depressing book which keeps

Night-Time Vs The Wave Analysis
Has it ever been difficult for you to make a choice? Especially if you are not certain which choice
is the correct one to make? You are not alone. The two books, The Curious Incident of the Dog in
the Night time and The Wave, contain two main characters under pressure to make decisions
neither one felt was right. In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time, Christopher
decided to leave his unintentionally abusive father and live with his mother in London. And in The

Of course, many teens will never experience the level of nighttime terror Christopher faced from
his father in The Curious Incident of the Night time, or the secretive emotional and physical
abuse Laurie faced from her ex boyfriend in The Wave. But regardless of how learning to do the
right thing takes shape for the growing young life of the average teen, standing apart from the
crowd and being a unique voice with an equally unique perspective can feel like being inmured
and being set free, at the same time. The mind of a wise teen creates social and emotional strain
by triggering an awareness of right and wrong, as well as a desire to vocalize this approach. So,
sitting back and being quiet about the circumstances is no longer possible. Once the darkness of
ones own fear is subdue, and the quiet inner voice is heard by others, the challenges of facing the
anger from others begins. Whether a boy is telling his parents he is gay. Or a young woman tells
her boyfriend, she is not ready to be intimate with him. At some point, we are all faced with
choices which we must make, whether we are prepared to or not. Our inner voice will usually be
too loud for us to disregard, and we will feel compelled to be the distinctive individual we are, and

Loneliness In Catcher In The Rye
In the beginning of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger brings up the motif of loneliness and
depression which Holden reveals to the reader while at Pencey Prep. For example while writing
a essay for Stradlater, he reflects on how after Allie, Holden s brother died, Holden slept in the
garage, the night he died and [he] broke all the god damn window. (39). This reaction to inflict
pain on himself is evidence that the loss triggered severe emotional disturbances. Holden isolates
himself after a tragic event proving Allie s death is the cause for his loneliness. Also, while alone in

she is someone who he has a strong connection with, that she will make him less depressed
shown by him saying that she had sense. Also while Holden is in his hotel room in New York,
after his prostitute leaves, he felt depressed, then he began talking, sort of out loud, to Allie, (98).
Allie s death made Holden isolated form someone who was close to him. Him attempting to talk to
Allie shows how his loneliness and depression was caused by his isolation because he wants to try

describes New York as making him feel lonesome and depressed and how he wished [he] could go

Of Samuel Taylor Coleridge s This Lime Tree Bower My...
Samuel Taylor Coleridge viewed the world in a different light than his peers. He was known as
one of the greatest poets of the Romantic Period, but he had a hard, troubled life and this was
reflected in his poems. Most of his poems were not only made to indulge the reader, but to make
the reader think. His poems were much deeper than just their literal meaning. They invited the
reader into Coleridge s heart and mind. In doing so, the reader learned a different way to view
the world and what Coleridge felt. Many of Samuel Taylor Coleridge s poems include intimate
self revelation of the poet by expressing emotions, thoughts, and using spirituality, such as is seen
in This Lime Tree Bower my Prison and Dejection: An Ode . Coleridge s poems include intimate
self revelation of the poet such as is seen in This Lime Tree Bower My Prison and Dejection: An
Ode by expressing emotions. In the poem Lime Tree Bower My Prison , Coleridge starts the
poem by focusing on the garden of lime trees that he inhabits. Coleridge compares the lime tree
garden to a prison. This makes him feel unhappy and feel as though he is suffering by not being
able to go on the walk. But, then he begins to imagine what the walk would be like. Through his
imagination, he is able to change his emotional state to a happier one. In doing so, Coleridge

I think that affordable housing is a good opportunity for families of low income to have a good

think that creating affordable housingfor minorities and poor people might help to motivate them

people to have a better life quality. On the other hand, I am completely

Analysis Of The Movie Sunny Randall
The Sunny Randall series follows main character Sunny Randall, who is a female detective. She
was created by Parker so that Helen Hunt would play her in a movie, but it never happened. He
kept the series going because his publisher asked him to. Both Randall and Spenser (another Boston
detective that was created by Parker) have things in common, but also things that make them
unique. There are six novels to the series.
Sunny Randall is a private investigator in the city of Boston, and used to be a cop. She has a bull
terrier named Rosie, is a college graduate, and she would like to be a painter. Randall also has an ex
husband who is named Richie and Richie is from a mob family. Her father, Phil Randall, was
also a cop, and he calls on Sunny to help investigate a case later on in the series ( Spare Change ,
the sixth novel in the series).
Sunny also appears in Parker s Jesse Stone series of novels and Jesse in turn appears in some of the
Sunny books. This is a result of the two dating for a little while before they both realize that their
relationship just is not going to work. It is also a result of Sunny appearing in Split Image , a Jesse
Stone novel where she had a case of her own and carried a good portion of the novel all on her own.
Family Honor is the first novel of the Sunny Randall series written by Robert B. Parker and was
released in the year 1999. When Sunny Randall takes a case from a wealthy family so that she can

Advantages Of Interstellar Travel
The possibility of interstellar travel
Many people or even scientists claimed that interstellar travel is impossible. They argue that it
may take a spacecraft too much time to accelerate to a speed close to the speed of light. Some
people think other stars are too far, and it may take hundreds or thousands of years to reach them.
However, as we will show, these arguments don t rule out the possibility of interstellar travel. In
contrast, there are possible method to travel to very far object in a person s life. We don t consider
some possible but still very unrealistic technologies like twisting spacetime.
Interstellar objects are very far. The closest star except the sun is Proxima, with a distance of 4.27
light years. Many stars have a distance of hundreds or thousands of light years. Some people
think it impossible for a spacecraft to reach these stars because any object cannot travel faster
than light. 100 years is required for light to reach an object that is 100 light years away, and it
will take even more time for a spacecraft to reach the object. However, the argument above doesn
t take relativity into account. There are two different reference frame for us to understand this
problem. First, for people live on earth, the time of an astronaut in the spacecraft will slow down
in such a high speed. For example, assume that a spacecraft travel at a constant speed of 0.99c,
and a star is 42 light years away as seen from the earth. People live on earth think the

Music, Violence, and Identity in Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange
Linking the fundamental conflict between individual identity and societal identity with musical
imagery in Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange creates a lens through which one can recognize
the tendency that violence has to destroy an individual s identity. Although Alex clearly associates
violence with his own individual identity and sense of self, he consistently reveals the impossibility
of remaining an individual in the face of group oriented violence. Images drawn from the realm of
music parallel the destruction of Alex s identity, either through conformity to a group s style of
violence or through failure to embrace the homogeneity of group actions ... Show more content on

But the development of Beethoven s symphony soon puts a different interpretation on what
appears, at first glance, to be Alex s individual act of violence. After the solo bass intones an
introduction, soloists and then a full chorus and orchestra join the soloist, unified in singing the
same poem. What initially seems like an individual remaining separate from a group does not
remain so for very long. As other soloists join the solo bass, the singers declare that Men
throughout the world are brothers/ In the haven of thy [joy s] wings. 2 If Alex truly does believe
his violent act to be joyful, then the joy of violence blinds men throughout the world in a
brotherhood. The image of the tigers (plural) leaping up inside Alex, also representing the group
character of his act, reinforces the binding nature of violence. Alex s supposedly individual act gets
absorbed into a universal brotherhood.
The nature of the orchestral music chosen to accompany particular stages of Alex s narrative
further underlines the process by which violence causes the diminishment of individual identity, by
compelling obedience to a group. When Alex fancies this new violin concerto by the American
Geoffrey Plautus (32), he envisions vecks and ptitsas, both young and starry, lying on the ground
screaming for mercy, and I was smecking all over my rot and grinding my boot in their listos (33).

Respiratory Syncytial Virus
Running Head: RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS
Respiratory Syncytial Virus
Breanna Kennelly
Apollo College
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) causes acute respiratory tract infection in patients of all ages
and is one of the most popular diseases of childhood. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection,
which manifests primarily as bronchiolitis and/or viral pneumonia, is the leading cause of lower
respiratory tract (LRT) infection in infants and young children. RSV is the most common cause of
bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lungs) and pneumonia in children under one

RSV is more prevalent during winter and early spring in temperate climates, although timing may
differ among locations. In most cases, healthy infants infected with RSV do not need to be
hospitalized, recovery from illness usually occurs in about one to two weeks. Adults with
compromised immune systems and premature infants and children with congenital heart and lung
defects are at a higher risk for severe disease and hospitalization (www.aapredbook.com). RSV
infection is limited to the respiratory tract. Respiratory Syncytial Virus affects the respiratory system
causing an interruption of the normal physiology of the lungs which are the main organs affected.
The lungs are a pair of cone shaped bodies that occupy the thorax. The lungs have two vital
functions air distribution and gas exchange. In addition to attending as an air distribution pathway
and gas exchange surface the components of the respiratory tract cleanse, warm and humidify
inspired air. RSV affects the lungs by inflaming the small airways and decreasing the oxygen flow
in and out, thereby affecting the capacity for normal oxygen exchange. Initial infection in young
infants or children frequently involves the LRT and most often manifests as the clinical entity of
bronchiolitis. Inoculation of the virus occurs in the URT in respiratory epithelial cells [ (Leonard
R Krilov, 2010) ]. Spread of the virus down the respiratory tract occurs by

Mohler s Argument Analysis
While reading Mohler s article, I was intrigued by his view concerning authority. In today s society
the term has become seemingly negative or possibly offensive. This interesting viewpoint caused
me to wonder why the current generations view authority this way. It is possible that it is not
viewed negatively because it is a bad position. Instead, it is possible that the view stems from many
who have abused this position both in secular and religious realms. However, it is most intriguing
to apply this mindset toward preaching.
I agree with Mohler s opinion. It is important that it is never taken lightly and always done
intentionally. The Word of God must be demonstrated as authorityand not merely as a suggestion.

Three reasons for a student of the Bible to consider studying, not just reading the Gospel of Mark is
one, the key word in Mark is Immediately which is used frequently causing the reader to move
from one account to the next rapidly.
Two, unlike Luke and Matthew who begin their accounts of the Gospel with the events surrounding
the birth of the Jesus, Mark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We read in Mark 1:22 that They were astonished at his teachings, they were all amazed, Mark
1:27; they were utterly astounded Mark 6:51; the disciples were amazed at his words, Mark 10:24.
The Bible student can take the example from our Lord who came here with purpose, to save the lost.
The purpose of the Gospel of Mark is to show that our Lord Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son
of God who was sent to suffer and to serve in order to rescue and restore mankind. It is widely
recognized that the theme of this Gospel comes out chapter ten and verse forty five, For even the
Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
In the third point we answer the question, why would these short writings be so well noted and
recognized? And this is answered with the theme verse as it paints a picture of how Mark
describes our Lord. Mark displays both Jesus divinity and his humanity. For example, Mark tells
us that Jesus is the carpenter Mark 6:3. Matthew softens it a bit by saying that Jesus is the
carpenter s son Matthew 13:55. Mark even tells us about Jesus emotions. Jesus was moved with
compassion Mark 6:34; he sighed Mark 7:34; 8:12; he marveled at the unbelief of his own people
Mark 6:6; he looked

Pharmacy Technician Code Of Ethics Paper
While looking at the code of ethics for Pharmacy Technicians its clear to see that there is some
overlap in the standards of practice and codes of ethics. While the order of the two documents are
different the information contained in them is very similar. The first similarity that I noticed for
the two documents was that of values of the clients we serve. Listed in section 3 subsection A1 it
clearly states that A member shall respect the rights, dignity, needs, wishes and values of the client
(CDAAC, 2016) . While is the pharmacytechnicians code of ethicsit states that Members respect the
patient s values, customs and beliefs and their right to hold these as self governing decision makers
(Ontario College of Pharmacists, 2015) . Another... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What I really noticed was that the differences were based on the job they were doing. Pharm
Techs are dealing with medical information related to prescription so they have more regulation
to follow while OTA PTA are dealing with the client in a different manner. In the Pharm Techs
code of ethics, it states that members in emergency situations, including pandemics and other
public health emergencies where the health of the patient or the public is at risk, have a duty to
provide patient care within their professional competence and expertise Ontario College of
Pharmacists, 2015 the codes of ethics because they really don t apply to our profession at this
point. I also noticed that in the Pharm Techs code of ethics it talks about the avoidance of dual
relationships while the other two documents don t talk about it at all. I also noticed job related
differences in the OTA PTA code of ethics. Their code of ethics states that members need to Take
responsibility for the patient/client care delegated to physiotherapist assistants and students
(Canadian Physiotherapy Association, 2016) . While doing the research I really noticed that most
of differences that I found was between the Pharm Techs code of ethics VS the CDA code of
ethics because they are to widely different fields of study. I also noticed that the Pharm Techs code

Cognitive Biases And Structured Analytic Techniques
There are many cognitive biases that affect the analytic process and inhibit analysts from reaching
the height of their accuracy. Each of these cognitive biases affect thinking in a unique way, but
there are different techniques that can be used to overcome these biases. Most of the time cognitive
biases are not intentional which is why it is so important that measures are taken to reduce the
effect of cognitive biases. Structured Analytic Techniques effectively reduce the effect of cognitive
biases in many different ways. This paper will examine four cognitive biases and Structured
Analytic Techniques that can help intelligence analysts be more accurate and less biased in their
analysis. Anchoring is a cognitive biasin which there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outside in thinking is a strategy that requires analysts to think from the perspective of the
outside. The first step of outside in thinking is to list all of they forces that could have an impact
on a certain topic or issue. From there the analyst looks at possible factors that could influence
that topic such as policy changes or actions of an adversary. The next step is to analyze how
each of those factors could affect the topic or issue that the analyst is focusing on. The final step
of outside in thinking is to judge whether or not the factors you identified are relevant to the issue
at hand. This process requires the analyst to first look at all possible information and then work
until they have reached a conclusion. The conclusion is the last step of this process and the analyst
is aware of this fact so they are less likely to only look for information that supports their
conclusion. This thinking process is effective in encouraging analysts to avoid the pitfalls of the

Millions of researches are being carried out across the world. Hence the scope is very limited
for a person/organization to follow all the studies going on. Even if you track a study, it
becomes a real problem to analyze data that is being updated continuously on that trial. Apart
from this problem, there are many other obstacles like inaccurate results in search of a particular
medical problem and even if you do find accurate results, it becomes hard to put all information
at one place retrieved from various sources. In order to overcome the above problems, we are
developing a one stop clinical trials user friendly application that addresses all the related
problems. In addition, we plan on providing a platform for business users to analyze the stocks of
the companies that are conducting the clinical trials. Business users can benefit by making use of
these analyses to make right choice before investing on a stock. When a company starts the
research on any disease, its stock prices see a change relative to this research. If the research seems
useful and helpful for the society, it grabs the attention of the investors thereby, increases the stock
prices of that firm. This analysis is carried out in this project. 1.2Problem and motivation There are
numerous clinical trials being conducted around the world every day. In spite of the technological

Chapter 11 Analysis
After reading chapter 11 of our textbook, there were three important topics that stood out to me. The
first topic that I thought was interesting was the purposes of assessments. According to Carjuzaa
and Kellough, the purposes of assessments are for assisting student learning, identify students
strengths and weaknesses, assess the effectiveness of a particular instruction strategy, assess and
improve the effectiveness of curriculum programs, assess and improve teaching effectiveness, to
provide data in order to communicate with parents and guardians and to involve them in their
children s learning, and to provide data that assist in decision making about a student s future
(Carjuzaa Kellough, 2017, pg. 337 338). Assessing to identify strengths... Show more content on

The three stage process of assessing a student s achievement is diagnostic assessments, formative
assessment, and summative assessment. Diagnostic assessment is the assessment of the student s
knowledge and skills before the new instruction. Formative assessment is the assessment of learning
during the instruction and summative assessment is the assessment of learning after the instruction,
ultimately represented by the student s final term, semester, or year s achievement grade (Carjuzaa
Kellough, 2017, pg. 340). For example, in a physical education class, there can be a unit on golf and
the diagnostic assessment for this unit can be to have students try to hit the golf ball without any
instruction. This will give the PE teacher a great understanding of his or her students skill level.
Following that, the teacher will give lessons on different types of swings and throughout these
lessons, the teacher can provide formative assessments to check for understanding. At the very end
of the unit, the teacher can give a summative assessment to test everything the teacher covered
throughout the golf

Compare and Contrast Old and New Imperialism Essay
Compare and Contrast old and new imperialism
New Imperialism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries compared to Old Imperialism of the 16th
and 17th centuries. Imperialism is the spread of control over territories across the globe. The
Industrial Revolution and interests in nationalism created a new period of imperialism around 1750.
Old imperialism lasted from 1450 1750, but imperialism alone remained until 1914.Old imperialism
and new imperialism shared the same basic concept of controlling and utilizing foreign countries.
Old imperialism focused mainly on systems of trade while new imperialism took bolder steps to
overtaking nations. Old Imperialism was the period from 1450 1750

This led to a focus on a trading system because Europeans didn t want to take on territorial
responsibilities. During the Old imperialism era, Europeans set up trading posts, ports, and docks.
These trading centers benefited the places the mother country was supplying too. They had
objectives to protect their trading centers in native places and none to obtain territories in them.
Europe s trade within and between native lands led to cultural diversity which may have caused a
small breach in unity. However, the old Imperialism era ended due to high costs in taking over
territories and too much time to supply the mother country. There was no time to build up a
superior, organized, skilled army for anyone. Also, due to the Industrial Revolution there was now a
faster more efficient way to create and manufacture products. Throughout Western Europe, political
authority was completely controlled by central governments, while leaders, such as Isabela I, were
busy with the concept of how to increase the power of the state. National wealth was widely
viewed as the groundwork of national power, governmental controls soon dominated nearly all of
the state s domestic economy.
The start of Old Imperialism was based on the military and naval power and the underlining motive
was essentially capitalistic. It began with sea explorations of the Spanish and Portuguese in the
second half of the 15th century. Prince Henry the

The Rise Of The 19th Century Essay
The 14th century Renaissance1 was a transformational period in European history during which
society experienced a resurgence of classical beliefs which altered Europe s literature, science,
religion, politics, and especially art. The word Renaissance is defined as a revival or rebirth; the
period before, known as the Middle Ages, was characterized by feudalism, power of the Catholic
Church, and plague. However, as a result of the widespread loss of life caused by the Black Death,
there was a rapid growth of commerce, invention, and scholarship. Both men and women returned
to classical values and its humanist style of thinking, the appreciation of human capabilities as
opposed to the divine or supernatural matters, and ultimately worked towards becoming a
Renaissanceman or woman . Those people who spent their lives expanding their horizons embodied
the core values of the period and influenced much of modern day society. Leonardo Da Vinciwas
one of the greatest of these Renaissance men; his principles and work the Vitruvian man, cannons,
the aerial screw, and the Mona Lisa shaped the Renaissance in many ways: socially, politically, and
theologically, and scientifically. His works not only represented the period, they affected the
continuance of the Renaissance.
Leonardo Da Vinci2 was born on April 15th, 1452 to a Florentine notary and an unmarried peasant
woman named Caterina out of wedlock in Anchiano, Tuscany. His mother considered him an

Birth Control And Fertility
Birth Control and Fertility One of the most common misconceptions circling society for years is
how the use of contraceptives (birth control) can affect women s fertility. Birth control is a mixture
of hormones that thicken the cervical mucus to prevent the ovaries from ovulating eggs, as well as
changing the lining of the uterus to make reproduction difficult. For this reason, women use
multiple contraceptive methods to help with hormonal issues, menstrual problems, ovarian
disorders, but the most common use is for the prevention of pregnancy. So how does a medication
that prevents one from getting pregnant not affect fertility, especially for those who utilize it for
years? Ever since the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved contraceptives in 1960, it
has become one of the most thoroughly tested medications. With a few notable exceptions,
immediately after you stop using birth control, your fertility will go right back to what it was
destined to be, says Dr. Paul Blumenthal, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins
University Medical School. By this he means that problems conceiving may be attributed to age,
disorders, and other factors that can lead to infertility, but the contraceptive itself does not affect it
once you stop utilizing it. In fact, studies show that birth control improves fertility by helping cure
ovarian disorders that lead to infertility, as well as an infertility treatment to patients that cannot
conceive. Contrary to

The Critique Of The Theory Of Multiple Intelligences
The theory of multiple intelligences was developed by Dr. Howard Gardner in 1983. The Theory
of Multiple Intelligences is a critique of the standard psychological view of intellect: there is a
single intelligence, adequately measured by IQ or other short answer tests. Instead, on the basis of
evidence from disparate sources, the theory claims that human beings have a number of relatively
discrete intellectual capacities. IQ tests assess linguistic and logical mathematical intelligence, and
sometimes spatial intelligence; they are a reasonably good predictor of who will do well in school.
This is because humans have several other significant intellectual capacities (Harvard University).
Explained in Wikipedia, this theory differentiates intelligence into specific... Show more content on

If a teacher is having difficulty reaching a student in the more traditional linguistic or logical ways
of instruction, the theory of multiple intelligences suggests several other ways in which the material
might be presented to facilitate effective learning. He also mentioned how this theory caused a
profound impact on education and proposes a major transformation in the way our schools are run.
It suggests the importance of training teachers to present their lessons in a wide variety of ways
using music, cooperative learning, art activities, role play, multimedia, field trips, inner reflection,
and much more. As mentioned in Lane, Gardner said that these differences challenge an
educational system that assumes that everyone can learn the same materials in the same way and
that a uniform, universal measure suffices to test student learning. Indeed, as currently constituted,
our educational system is heavily biased toward linguistic modes of instruction and assessment and,
to a somewhat lesser degree, toward logical quantitative modes as

National Hockey Research Paper
The National Hockey League, like any other professional sports league, relies on statistics to
measure and project the success and potential of its players. The NHL has, and still continues, to
use a slightly convoluted and oft misinterpreted statistic known as plus minus (+/ ) to measure
defensive contributions a player makes while on the ice. In the NHL and in virtually all major
sports, the offensive contributions of playersand teams are easily tracked and calculated. It is often
a binary matter, and not open to interpretation; if an NHL player is on the ice, shoots the puck at
the net, and it goes past the goaltender, it s a goal. That goal is then confirmed, tracked, and added
to the player s Goals Scored statistic. The tracking of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Is Louis Xiv Important In The 1600s
From 1500 1700, there were multiple European monarchs that were beneficial to their country, but
there were also many other monarchs that were detrimental to their country. During this time
period, certain European countries also had their own governmental issues, whereas other countries
were thriving. Throughout the 1600 s, numerous European leaders were fighting internal and
external wars, having social and economic problems, and losing faith in their people. On the other
hand, some leaders were also providing support for their people and creating a strong government.
There are several European monarchs who were beneficial and detrimental, but five key people
control the discussion. King James I of England, Peter I of Russia, Louis XIV of France, Pierre
Patel, and Queen Elizabeth I of England are all royals who had a substantial influence over their
countries.

in France were deplorable and most of it was Louis XIV s fault. The author s background as an
anonymous citizen allowed them to tell the honest truth because they wanted to inform their
monarch of the conditions in their country. In 1694, an anonymous source informed Louis XIV that
the cultivation of the earth in France is almost abandoned, the towns and the countryside are
depopulated; all the industry languishes and no longer supports the workers. (Document H).

Online Shopping And Traditional Shopping
Shopping can be enjoyable for some people; however, it can also be a burden for others. The
preference of the shopper really determines whether or not they have a pleasant experience and the
time to look for their items. There are many similarities as well as differences with online shopping
and traditional shopping. The main factors that I will be discussing are convenience, discounts and
item availability.
Convenience is really a significant factor with both types of shopping. As of the 2011 Time
Survey, the average American spends about 43.2 minutes per day shopping, which is down from
48.6 minutes per day in 2003. (Hines, 2012) Online shopping is convenient for purchasing items at
the click of the mouse. Although online empires, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both shopping methods offer convenience in different ways that is solely at the preference of the
individual consumer.
Discounts are offered by both online and traditional shopping. Cyber Monday is vastly
becoming as popular as Black Friday, and for some, more popular. The world of retail has
certainly raised their game with regard to discounts and sales on merchandise, both online and
traditional, to attract customers. Retail centers will offer discounts to a certain number of
customers first to arrive. Many online sellers will offer free shipping in addition to sales and
discounts to compete. A consumer can save a considerable amount of money by researching an
item they want to purchase to obtain the best deal. In addition, online sellers feature lower prices
because they do not have the overhead costs such as rent, utilities and sales people. In comparison,
retail centers will slash prices to compete against online retailers. Another savings with online
shopping is that a consumer might not have to pay sales tax based on their residency. (Torres,
2017) Coupons and gift cards can be applied with either method of shopping allowing further
discounts off regular priced items.
Item availability is significant for online shopping. There is no shortage of shelf space when you
shop online. Another factor to consider is when a consumer is looking for an old or unique item,
they can just google it and purchase it. As such, a consumer spends less time

Hypothetico-Deductive Modeling to Q A
Hypothetico Deductive Modeling to Q A The Hypothetico Deductive model is considered by some
to be the hallmark of scientific research methods. The model is predicated on obtaining information
in an effort to confirm or reject the hypothesis developed. This methodology requires the researcher
to ask questions, hone in on the issue through preliminary research, formulate hypothesis and
measurements, test, draw conclusions, refine and report. In order for the model to be effective the
question being addressed by the researcher must be testable. This means there is practical
feasibility of producing counterexamples. For example answering the question of does God exist?

Understanding and use of this model can provide the business researcher with a decisive advantage
when assessing information in support of critical decisions. JosГ© SacristГЎn used this type of
model in his research supporting Exploratory trials, confirmatory observations: A new reasoning
model in the era of patient centered medicine . His research supports using hypothetico deductive
reasoning as a basis for developing new pharmaceutical products (SacristГЎn, 2011). The current
approach requires a new drug substance to undergo a series of rigorous clinical trials. These trials
serve to confirm patient outcomes in support of new medicine availability. Typically a single
dosage is approved in support of the aggregate population afflicted with an ailment. JosГ©
SacristГЎn has expanded on the presumed single dose theory using the hypothetico deductive

Seeing this photo, sends a great amount of sadness and sorrow into my soul. I believe this is one of the most powerful images of 9/11 because it takes a great amount of strength to make a decision like The Falling Man and many others did. Why is this relevant to contemporary health care? Sharps injuries (mainly needlestick), carry the risk of serious infections. Healthcare providers are exposed to dangerous and potentially life threatening infections. Most needlestick injuries together with other sharps injuries remain largely preventable. Sharps injuries remain an important area of study since it affects a large number of healthcare providers. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 385,000 needlesticks injuries occur yearly in hospital based environment s (Wilburn, 2004). The utilization of an apparatus with safety made protective attributes, mandated in the United States in year 2000 has been led to decreased rates of needlestick injuries (Battles, Keyes Grady, 2008). This was about the same time North Carolina became a royal colony. She married William Darragh, a family friend and member of the clergy, in 1753. They moved to Philadelphia a few years later, settling into a large Quaker community. William became a tutor and Lydia found work as a midwife. They raised five children, with four others perishing as infants. Quakers were known for being pacifists, though the Darraghs secretly supported the rebels and their cause. The plot thickened as British troops marched into Philadelphia in 1777. The following October General Washington failed to recapture the city, and his troops retreated to Whitemarsh. The day after, Major John Andre demanded the use of the Darragh s home for meetings. Lydia s cousin helped persuade them to allow her to stay in her home, though the youngest of the children were sent to their relatives outside the city. • 13. Film Analysis Of Lauren Greenfield s The Queen Of... Lauren Greenfield s 2012 documentary The Queen of Versailles offers an entertaining and thought provoking look at what subjects a documentary can cover as the film follows billionaires David and Jacqueline Siegel and their family as they navigate the 2008 economic crisis and attempt to build a mansion inspired by Versailles. Though the premise of the film is fairly straightforward, on a deeper level the film touches upon such ideas as the unattainability of the American Dream, the correlation between wealthand happiness, and family perseverance in the face of adversity. However, one key theme of the film serves to discredit the outside assumption that wealthy individuals lead flawless happy lives, and are in someway elevated beyond typical humanity, not experiencing hardships in the same manner as middle classsociety. In reality, as the film demonstrates, the wealthy are as flawed and as deeply human as any other class, capable of experiencing hardships and unhappiness regardless of material wealth. To further explore how the film achieves its theme, one must first have a firm understanding of the documentaryform and how certain events in the film highlight the theme, which is explored in the following paragraphs . Firstly, it is important to understand how the documentary form is best suited to illustrate the film s theme. In order to do this, one must have an overview of the documentary style of filmmaking. The year 2004 figure of 30.51% is consistent with the company s overall improvement. The rate used to evaluate the efficiency of assets to generate income is called the Rate Earned on Average Assets, or Return on Investment (ROI). There was a slight decrease in 2004 from 2003, posing the figures 4.03% and 4.46%, respectively. Though it cannot be concluded in an instant that the company is inefficient in asset utilization, especially when the asset turnover rate is considered in the evaluation. Rate Earned on Average Equity likewise showed such a decrease, 13.38% in 2003 to 11.91% in 2004, or a difference of 1.47%. Investors need not panic for this immaterial reduction although it pays to investigate further, especially that the Retained Earnings balance decreased by US$138M or 26.44% from 2003 to 2004. • 16. Pros And Cons Of Hernan Cortes Hernan Cortes conquest of the Aztec Empire gave birth to three hundred years of Spanish rule in Mexico. Miguel Hidalgo, a Catholic priest, and leader of the independence movement united: indigenous peasants, poor creoles, nobility in Spanish America and the Catholic church within the colony to depose Spaniard royalist power which Cortes had given birth to (Mckay 684). This unlikely alliance stemmed from the widespread discontent of Spaniard viceroy assumption of control of the government of New Spain from its capital in MexicoCity after Napoleon s coup in 1808 (Mckay 684). The signing of Iturbide s Plan of Iguala ended eleven years of struggle for independence, and the end of Spaniard control. This plan not only established Mexico as a constitutional monarchy but as well solidified the cultural transition from the polytheism of the Aztec Empire to the strong monotheism of the newly emerging Catholic Church. Because the colonial system depended on the loyalty of the clergy: the priests controlled the people, this allowed the Catholic Church s influence to grow within the colony (Lynch 109). The separation of the Catholic Church from the Spanish crown played a vital role in the attainment of independence. Considering the separation of the Catholic Church from the Spanish crown and how the Plan de Iguala concluded the Mexican War of independence, I intend to explore: How the Catholic Church changed the Mexican War of Independence? HSAs allow you to deposit the money an insurer saves on premiums into a tax favored HSA, subject to federal limits. The individual uses these savings to pay qualified health care expenses until the out of pocket maximum is met, then insurance starts to pay the covered health care costs, once the deductible is met. • 19. The Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis The cost volume profit analysis (CVP) is used to help companies determine breakeven points and pricing for their products. It is a method of cost accounting ењЁased on determining the breakeven point of cost and volume of goods and is useful for managers making short term economic decisions (Investopedia, 2013). The mechanism of CVP begins with the revenue, so the price point and the volume of units sold (CliffNotes, 2013). A good way to understand the CVP analysis is using a simple income statement example (Choo Tan, 2011) The example that will be used here is a one product small company Acme, which makes ball bearings. The cost of producing one ball bearing is six cents. The objective for Acme in using CVP analysis is to determine how many ball bearings it must sell at its normal price in order to breakeven. Suppose its fixed costs are $100,000. If the normal price for a ball bearing is twenty cents that is the variable cost. The contribution is the revenue variable cost, so in this case 14 cents. The breakeven point is 100,000 / 0.14 = 714,286 ball bearings. There are a few different ways that the company can gain competitive advantage using the CVP method and the information that it generates about the business. The first thing the company can learn is with respect to pricing. The company needs to sell 714,286 ball bearings, so it will only produce ball bearings if it thinks that it can sell that many. In his book, The Return of Depression Economics and The Crisis of 2008, Krugman first educates the reader of historical and foreign financial crises which allows for a deeper understanding of the modern financial system. The context provided from the historical analysis proves to be a crucial prospective in such a way that the rest of Krugman s narrative about modern finance continually relates back to the historical analysis. From there, Krugman analyzes and updates his prior studies done on the Asian financial crisis. He then applies his knowledge from historical events to the modern day financial struggles and argues his opinion about how and why our financial world operates the way it does. Krugman explains his perspective that the world believed that depression economicswas no longer a problem, however the Asian crisis, Japan s liquidity trap and the Latin American crisis having acted as warning signals to modern market struggles. Thus he says that this subject needs further examination and more resources should be poured into it. For Krugman, Depression Economics is still a relevant problem and should be further studied. A man upset about qualia he seems appalled that something could exist which cannot be tested or used in some way to verify something. In fact, Dennett seems so upset about qualia he created his own idea of it, and argued against that instead of a more charitably (or correctly) understood definition. How, then, to prove the qualia Dennett uses is a strawman? Let s start by discussing his two examples first, with pump 5/6 on neurosurgery. Recall that Dennett believes the neurosurgeon showed that our qualia are less than private and immediately apprehensible. The neurosurgeon knew our qualia better we could not tell what was changed between our memory of past qualia and our current qualia. Dennett thinks pump 5/6 does particularly well in undermining the apprehensibility of qualia after all, the qualia itself seems useless is telling us just what has happened during the surgery. Except, qualia never could. The neurosurgeon, if he or she changed our memory, would still change our qualia our qualia of the memory. He was known as one of the greatest poets of the Romantic Period, but he had a hard, troubled life and this was reflected in his poems. Some people think other stars are too far, and it may take hundreds or thousands of years to reach them. However, as we will show, these arguments don t rule out the possibility of interstellar travel. In contrast, there are possible method to travel to very far object in a person s life. We don t consider some possible but still very unrealistic technologies like twisting spacetime. Interstellar objects are very far. The closest star except the sun is Proxima, with a distance of 4.27 light years. Many stars have a distance of hundreds or thousands of light years. Music, Violence, and Identity in Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange Linking the fundamental conflict between individual identity and societal identity with musical imagery in Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange creates a lens through which one can recognize the tendency that violence has to destroy an individual s identity. Although Alex clearly associates violence with his own individual identity and sense of self, he consistently reveals the impossibility of remaining an individual in the face of group oriented violence. Images drawn from the realm of music parallel the destruction of Alex s identity, either through conformity to a group s style of violence or through failure to embrace the homogeneity of group actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the development of Beethoven s symphony soon puts a different interpretation on what appears, at first glance, to be Alex s individual act of violence. After the solo bass intones an introduction, soloists and then a full chorus and orchestra join the soloist, unified in singing the same poem. What initially seems like an individual remaining separate from a group does not remain so for very long. As other soloists join the solo bass, the singers declare that Men throughout the world are brothers/ In the haven of thy [joy s] wings. 2 If Alex truly does believe his violent act to be joyful, then the joy of violence blinds men throughout the world in a brotherhood. The image of the tigers (plural) leaping up inside Alex, also representing the group character of his act, reinforces the binding nature of violence. Alex s supposedly individual act gets absorbed into a universal brotherhood. The nature of the orchestral music chosen to accompany particular stages of Alex s narrative further underlines the process by which violence causes the diminishment of individual identity, by compelling obedience to a group. Gospel Of Mark Reason The Gospel of Mark Three Reasons to Study The Gospel of Mark written by John Mark around mid to late 60 s is the shortest yet possibly the most interesting of all four Gospels. It contains the narrative history, sermons, and parables of Jesus Christ in just sixteen quick chapters. The purpose of the Gospel of Mark is to show that our Lord Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God who was sent to suffer and to serve in order to rescue and restore mankind. It is widely recognized that the theme of this Gospel comes out chapter ten and verse forty five, For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. In the third point we answer the question, why would these short writings be so well noted and recognized? And this is answered with the theme verse as it paints a picture of how Mark describes our Lord. Mark displays both Jesus divinity and his humanity. For example, Mark tells us that Jesus is the carpenter Mark 6:3. Matthew softens it a bit by saying that Jesus is the carpenter s son Matthew 13:55. Mark even tells us about Jesus emotions. The Rise Of The 19th Century Essay The 14th century Renaissance1 was a transformational period in European history during which society experienced a resurgence of classical beliefs which altered Europe s literature, science, religion, politics, and especially art. The word Renaissance is defined as a revival or rebirth; the period before, known as the Middle Ages, was characterized by feudalism, power of the Catholic Church, and plague. • 50. Birth Control And Fertility Birth Control and Fertility One of the most common misconceptions circling society for years is how the use of contraceptives (birth control) can affect women s fertility. Birth control is a mixture of hormones that thicken the cervical mucus to prevent the ovaries from ovulating eggs, as well as changing the lining of the uterus to make reproduction difficult. For this reason, women use multiple contraceptive methods to help with hormonal issues, menstrual problems, ovarian disorders, but the most common use is for the prevention of pregnancy. So how does a medication that prevents one from getting pregnant not affect fertility, especially for those who utilize it for years? Ever since the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved contraceptives in 1960, it has become one of the most thoroughly tested medications. With a few notable exceptions, immediately after you stop using birth control, your fertility will go right back to what it was destined to be, says Dr. Paul Blumenthal, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins University Medical School. By this he means that problems conceiving may be attributed to age, disorders, and other factors that can lead to infertility, but the contraceptive itself does not affect it once you stop utilizing it. In fact, studies show that birth control improves fertility by helping cure ovarian disorders that lead to infertility, as well as an infertility treatment to patients that cannot conceive. The Theory of Multiple Intelligences is a critique of the standard psychological view of intellect: there is a single intelligence, adequately measured by IQ or other short answer tests. Instead, on the basis of evidence from disparate sources, the theory claims that human beings have a number of relatively discrete intellectual capacities. IQ tests assess linguistic and logical mathematical intelligence, and sometimes spatial intelligence; they are a reasonably good predictor of who will do well in school. It suggests the importance of training teachers to present their lessons in a wide variety of ways using music, cooperative learning, art activities, role play, multimedia, field trips, inner reflection, and much more. As mentioned in Lane, Gardner said that these differences challenge an educational system that assumes that everyone can learn the same materials in the same way and that a uniform, universal measure suffices to test student learning.
