Tungsten-cermet fuels show promise for long-life, high-performance nuclear thermal rockets by containing uranium and fission products better than previous fuel types. Further development and testing of tungsten-cermet fuels is needed to validate their performance in nuclear thermal rocket reactors for applications like Mars missions. Controls and sensors would be required to monitor critical parameters like neutron flux, temperature, strain, and propellant flow for safe reactor operation.

Transient plasma discharge ignition was tested as an alternative to spark ignition for internal combustion engines. On-engine experiments showed that transient plasma discharge ignition increased peak pressure, indicated mean effective pressure, and burn rates compared to spark ignition, especially for lean mixtures. It also decreased heat release times. Emissions of NOx, hydrocarbons, and CO were similar between the two ignition methods. Transient plasma discharge ignition shows potential for improving engine performance through enabling leaner, lower turbulence combustion with similar or reduced emissions. Future work includes improved electrode designs, multi-cylinder testing, and exploring applications to low turbulence engine designs.

Abstract
We have developed an X-band SRF testing system using a high-Q copper cavity with an interchangeable flat bottom for the testing of different materials. By measuring the Q of the cavity, the system is capable to characterize the quenching magnetic field of the superconducting samples at different power level and temperature, as well as the surface resistivity. This paper will present the most recent development of the system and testing results.

The system utilizes two interchangeable hemisperhical cavities that can accommodate 50 mm-diameter samples on the flat surface. Both operate in a TE013-like mode where the magnetic field is strongest on the sample surface, which accounts for about 1/3 of the total cavity loss. The first cavity is a medium-Q copper one, and is utilized for measuring the sample’s critical temperature and magnetic quenching field. The second is a high-Q niobium-coated cavity that is employed for measuring surface resistance in the low-temperature, low-power limit. We will discuss cryostat design, measurement limits, and testing of samples grown both at SLAC and elsewhere.

A four power piston low-temperature differential stirling

Sebastian keckert status of the hzb quadrupole resonator
The systematic research on superconducting thin films requires dedicated testing equipment. The Quadrupole Resonator (QPR) is a specialized tool to characterize the superconducting properties of circular samples. A calorimetric measurement of the RF surface losses allows the surface resistance to be measured with sub nano-ohm resolution. This measurement can be performed over a wide temperature and magnetic field range, at frequencies of 433, 866 and 1300 MHz. The system at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) is based on a resonator built at CERN and has been optimized to lower peak electric fields and an improved resolution. An alternative calorimetry chamber has been designed in order to provide flat samples for coating and to ease changing of samples. In this talk the current status of the project at HZB will be presented.

ThorCon is proposing to build two 500 MW molten salt nuclear reactors in Indonesia to supplement coal power. The ThorCon design is based on a molten salt reactor developed at Oak Ridge National Lab that ran from 1965-1969. It uses thorium and uranium fuel dissolved in fluoride salts, which allows for low pressure operation and intrinsic safety. ThorCon claims its capital and fuel costs will be lower than coal plants due to efficiencies from the molten salt design and shipyard construction. A prototype ThorCon reactor would be built in a hull and towed to Indonesia to be powered up, with passive safety systems to ensure safe operation even during a Fukushima-like event.

Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP) Analysis Using CFD
The initial design of the ESP was studied with the help of commercial CFD tool “ANSYS Fluent” and after understanding its ineffectiveness, the design was modified by the addition of a filter. The insertion of filter at the inlet helped delay the flow separation at the inlet evase and improved the distribution of velocity in a more uniform pattern around all the electrode plates thus improving the efficiency of the ESP from 25 \% to 95 \%. Hence, CFD has proven as a very cost effective and useful tool in designing the Electrostatic precipitator.

Gamma-ray bursts
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are extremely bright bursts of gamma rays associated with catastrophic events in distant galaxies. Observations over decades have shown that GRBs originate from relativistic jets outside our galaxy and emit radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum. However, key questions remain about their emission mechanisms and how energy is transferred to accelerate particles to such high energies over short timescales. Future large gamma-ray detectors with improved sensitivity and time resolution are needed to better characterize GRB spectra and search for polarization that could reveal the role of magnetic fields in the emission process.
ThoCon Thorium Power Plant Project
Indonesia needs affordable, clean base load energy that can be deployed quickly at a small scale and expanded rapidly. Molten salt reactors (MSRs) meet these criteria and have several safety and economic advantages over other nuclear reactor designs. Thorcon Power is developing a MSR called Thorcon that uses an inherently safe, passive cooling system and has multiple containment barriers. A 500MW prototype is planned for 2022 with commercial plants starting in 2025. The project aims to establish a reactor construction yard in Indonesia to build many plants and support the country's growing energy needs.
Investigation of solar cooker with pcm heat storage

Thermal Propulsion system is one kind of propulsion system which is used to drive torpedo. The present study focuses mainly on design of combustion device known to be thrust chamber or thrust cylinder. The chamber and nozzle wall and the injector face plate must be made of metals selected for high strength at elevated temperature coupled with good thermal conductivity, resistance to high temperature oxidation. chemical inertness on the coolant on the coolant side, and suitability for the fabrication method to be employed. In the case of certain monopropellants, the metal must not catalyze the decomposition. Although aluminum and copper alloys have been used successfully for combustion chambers and nozzles, stainless steels and carbon steels are in widest use today.A cooling jacket permits the circulation of a coolant, which, in the case of flight engines is usually one of the propellants. Water is the only coolant recommended. The cooling jacket consists of an inner and outer wall. The combustion chamber forms the inner wall and another concentric but larger cylinder provides the outer wall. The space between the walls serves as the coolant passage. The nozzle throat region usually has the highest heat transfer intensity and is, therefore, the most difficult to cool.

Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP) Analysis Using CFD
The initial design of the ESP was studied with the help of commercial CFD tool “ANSYS Fluent” and after understanding its ineffectiveness, the design was modified by the addition of a filter. The insertion of filter at the inlet helped delay the flow separation at the inlet evase and improved the distribution of velocity in a more uniform pattern around all the electrode plates thus improving the efficiency of the ESP from 25 \% to 95 \%. Hence, CFD has proven as a very cost effective and useful tool in designing the Electrostatic precipitator.

Observations over decades have shown that GRBs originate from relativistic jets outside our galaxy and emit radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum. However, key questions remain about their emission mechanisms and how energy is transferred to accelerate particles to such high energies over short timescales. Future large gamma-ray detectors with improved sensitivity and time resolution are needed to better characterize GRB spectra and search for polarization that could reveal the role of magnetic fields in the emission process.

Water is the only coolant recommended. The cooling jacket consists of an inner and outer wall. The combustion chamber forms the inner wall and another concentric but larger cylinder provides the outer wall. The space between the walls serves as the coolant passage. The nozzle throat region usually has the highest heat transfer intensity and is, therefore, the most difficult to cool.
