- FGF23 is a phosphaturic glycoprotein secreted by osteoblasts and osteocytes. It acts by binding to fibroblastic growth receptor 1 in the presence of its coreceptor, the Klotho protein. The inactivation of FGF23 and GALNT3 mutations both result in lack of FGF23 and result in hyperphosphatic tumoral calcinosis with enhanced renal phosphate reabsorption.
